  1. Hi I hope someone can help me. I have several Locos fitted with SW Digital Loksound decoders, But I cannot reprogram them to another address. They only work on the default address 3. When I reprogram, they do the normal stutter bit on the track, but then come up with an error code, 11 i think? I am using a Bachmann Dynamis Ultima System. Other sound locos have not given me any trouble, nor have any other non sound decoders. I have tried and tried to get hold of SW dig but never get an answer, nor do they call back! This forum has been invaluable to me so far, the help received is superb, perhaps someone can help an old techno dinosaur like me. B
  2. Hi can anyone help me where I can get the instruction/ service sheet for Bachmann 31-995 LMS 10000, I bought one secondhand but as new and it was missing. Tied on net but can’t find one. Thanks B
  3. Thanks, I’ve run it a bit fast, and it seemed better, but on retrying, it’s back to the same. A good service and clean up maybe, I just wondered if it was a decoder issue. I can’t try on DC. I think it’s a more likely a pickup problem. B
  4. Hi ive had a Bachmann Class 40 fitted with SW Sound module, for a while, but I havnt used it much. Giving it a run yesterday it would not run properly. It was very jerky and stuttery, and the sound also naturally stuttered too. I ran it at a high speed for a while and it seemed better, but the speed could not be controlled, or at least took ages to stop, also I noticed that the horns did not work at anything over about 1/4 speed. Ive checked the track and wheels for dirt and run other sound diesels on the same track with no problems. it is very cold in the train room, could that be an issue? any help appreciated. B
  5. I know this post is old but I wondered if anyone still reading it? I’m just trying to decide whether to fit the 37 or 40 decoder to my new LMS 10000? . Read both arguments. But if I went for the 37, which version? They sell 37/0 and 37/4 Any thoughts B
  6. Having said that, it would appear the TTS class 40 sound is not available, tried everywhere. B
  7. Thank you all, food for thought. would I be right in saying the TTS would have an 8 pin connector, and the 10000 a 21 pin, so an adaptor needed? Prob got one somewhere. What about a fitting guide, does the body come off easily? B
  8. Hi I have just ordered a Bachmann LMS 10000, can anyone suggest a fairly low cost sound module, and point me towards a fitting guide. Can’t seem to find one. Thanks B
  9. Hi Ive just purchased Hornby R3917, Class 31, Brand new. Typically I opened the box to find loose bits everywhere! Windscreen, detached, sand boxes off etc. What is going on here? You can watch the TV programme saying ‘Hornby is for life, not just a toy’, but where is the quality control? Anyway, I’ve fixed most bits back on, but I’m stumped with this bit, can anyone tell me where it comes from? thanks B
  10. Hi I have just purchased a secondhand Bachmann Mk1 Pullman, but the bogies are faulty, look like someone had tampered with them and they don’t run. I’ve taken them off and they don’t even roll on there own. The wire's are also broken off on mine, good purchase eh! Is it possible to replace them? I see Bachmann sell a pair of commonwealth bogies, but are these compatible, as the Pullman’s have pickups for the lights. Also the Bachmann bogie spares appear to have the coupling attached to the bogie, whereas mine have the coupling attached to the pivot under the bogie with the usual spring! Any ideas B
  11. Sorry correction, not posted by Steamport, was another thread I was reading B
  12. Thank you But can anyone tell me if a Mk1 BCK or BG in Choc/Cream is anywhere near the umber/Cream of a Pullman. To my fairly OCD nature, running Maroon would not be an option, even though it may be correct. As to the Pullman colour differences between the Hornby and Bachmann, I was more referring to the cream, than the Umber, which is much more creamy/ yellow on Bachmann. The murder story posted by Steamport was fascinating. Have you ever read about the suicide on the Brighton Belle, again in a toilet and a bit suspicious. I can post it if anyone is interested. B
  13. I’m sure that most of you know, that when BR constructed the 44 Met Cam, mk1 Pullman’s in 1960, they originally intended to build suitable Brake coaches to match, but funds did not allow this. In stead they ran units often coupled to an earlier built Pullman Brake. I am building up a set of these Mk1s and wanted to run a Brake coach with them. A Hornby model looks very odd with them at that scale and the colour difference is immense. Bachmann have made a Mk1 BCK in Pullman colours, but they are a collectors edition only and hard/expensive to buy. They would also be historically inaccurate, but look good. I was wondering if a MK1 in WR choc/ cream would suffice, I don’t have one to compare. The Bachmann Pullman’s are a very creamy/ yellow colour compared to Hornby, and the roofs very dark grey. Perhaps someone has both to compare for me. interestingly, I was talking to a well known Pullman expert yesterday, and for those running a Southern or Western layout from the early 60s, the MK 1 Pullman’s did run occasionally in these regions, the Southern mostly specials with a mixture of coaches, and more regularly in the later 60s in blue/ grey, but more commonly on the Western , where the mk1s formed part of the standby train for the Western Pullman set, nicknamed the 'Wells Fargo'. In this case they used second class Pullman’s as First, to imitate the 2+1 seating of 1st class Blue Pullman’s, and we’re unpopular with passengers. Anyway any help in the colour match of WR coaches to Pullman would be useful. thanks, B
  14. Hi Sorry for the delay, but I’ve just heard from Antony Ford re the matchboard sided Pullman cars. Yes there were a few still in use as late as 63, particularly he notes, car 32. With regard to the signwriting on the sides, the Pullman car company, were quick to remove the 'third class’ notation, in 1956, and decided that it was costly to replace it with ' Car no x Second class' so left it as just car no x. You are quite correct, the matchboarding had to be filled for the signs, he thinks it was done by some sort of filler. He also noted that the gaps varied from car to car. He has a photo of the closeup of the sides of a Pullman as such, showing this filler, but it might be subject to copyright, so I might not be able to post it. As to the Pullman’s you have, most of those were plated over by 50's/60's. But if you’re going to re number them, I would be happy to run them in your period. hope all this helps B
  15. Yes exactly so, 3rd became 2nd in 1956, but I guess it took some time to repaint everything, especially Pullman, who were independent of BR. Me personally , I wouldn’t run anything with 3rd on it. I was trainspotting from about 1960, and I don’t ever recall seeing any coach with 3rd on it, but wouldn’t swear. Ive used a lot of licence on what I run, But my rule is 'near enough is good enough'. Regards B
  16. I can’t help you with the transfers, sorry, not got much experience. If you want me to pursue the Matchboarding issue, please let me know. B
  17. Hi thanks, is it me but I can only see orange on that site! B
  18. Hi Quick answer Leona there are 2 1 sold to CIWL in 25 returned to uK service 28, Leona 2, built 27, 1st class kitchen, rebuilt in 47 as third class, withdrawn 67 Cynthia as Leona 1, but remained as 1st class till 62/63 car 35 rebuilt in 51 for Golden Arrow, withdrawn 62/63 ( rebuilt with square lav windows to match other GA cars) car 171 built as Pauline 1925, rebuilt to 3rd class 47/48 ( later 2nd class)for Devon Belle, withdrawn 64/66 car 65 built as Dining car( non supplement for Scotland, rebuilt as brake in 37. withdrawn 64. as for matchboarding I will ask Antony but any that still have the 'third class' would certainly not fit in, even on rule 1. I hope this helps B
  19. Finally I see that the Bachman 4Bep unit is available off the shelf! Dissapointingly, despite their release literature, they decided not to produce it in the later BR green, with Small yellow panels, and cant rail red and yellow lines on the buffet and first class. This is a shame as it adds a nice touch of colour to the train Formation. My questions are, if anyone can help. Can you purchase suitable scale transfers or stickers to achieve the cant Rail lines, I guess painting the small yellow panels is straight forward, if I can find the right colour. Any suggestions appreciated. thanks B
  20. Hi I am also modelling early 60's Southern and understand the problem. Many locos were being scrapped then, so find I shouldn’t run some of them. I am fairly sure there were some matchboard sided Pullman’s still running when Withdrawn. I have recently repainted a matchboard sided Pullman green, as 4 or more were purchased, repainted and converted to Buffets for the Ocean liners. I believe at least 1 of these remained matchboarded. I have all the info in the full set of Pullman books by Antony Ford, who I am in regular contact with. He will certainly know the answer. can you list the cars in question, I will see what I can find out. Most important is that the 2nd/3rd class cars are not marked 'Third Class Car no X' as originally signed. regards B
  21. On the subject of limitation, I have just purchased a loco that has ( for me at least the first one ) more than 20 aux functions. As the Bachmann Ultima only caters for 20, i guess that means I can’t access them? Is that correct? Thanks B
  22. Thank you very much Keith your helpful reply. So what did yo replace the ZTC with? Unfortunately for me, being in France, model shops are few and far, literally, and shows, non existent. But I will peruse the web and try to narrow choices down. You’ve given me things to think about. In short though, the Dynamis does everything I want except the loco Rosta. And a few little quirks, but as usual the complete lack of information is a pain. B
  23. Thank you, Keith, I’m fast coming to the same conclusion, I need a better system. Do you, or anyone have a good suggestion? I must have handheld controller , I like the speed control via joystick. Display is nice , what’s out there? B
