  1. Assuming they follow the sea lanes they will be on the French side this time.
  2. Impressive! Your dedication knows no bounds David! Happy New Year! Still recovering from last night's excesses here.
  3. Note that the ship is dressed overall so likely to have been the Silver Jubilee [edit] Three master looks awfully like the Royal Yacht Britannia [/edit]
  4. Merry Christmas All! This has certainly been an informative topic over the previous year! Chris
  5. I was on the Martin Mill Bank for the chuffer-puffer, most impressive compared with Tornado two weeks ago. A beautifully turned out loco. https://youtu.be/p16BhNgm2m4 Diesel had a flat tyre!
  6. Think it's http://www.johnshirleyltd.co.uk/ Had my first run through the renewed section yesterday and I must say it is so smooth compared with the dips and jolts that used to shake up the journey.
  7. Comes up as a broken link for me. Did you mean http://www.railengineer.uk/2016/10/03/reinstating-shakespeare-cliff/
  8. I go away for holiday and come back three weeks later and it's all done and dusted!! Thanks once again to David for updating this enthralling topic. Are they heroes for completing three months early? or dillons for not getting going at full steam for several months?
  9. Strangely enough I said the very same thing to DT the other day! with the track curving in both directions I thought some straightening would be advantageous if possible (land and bridge allowing)
  10. Had the pleasure of meeting David and his chirpy Grandson for the first time early this morning whilst trying to get my recalcitrant 1937 BSA Empire Star reliable enough to take to the Isle of Man in two weeks, pictured below at the underpass entrance. Good to remember old names David and thank you once again.
  11. Makes a change from 'taxing' pensioners!! Are you still planning on a visit tomorrow pm? or was it AM with the Grandson? maths is OK but memory fails me!
  12. Did the Hastings Diesel Weybourne Wanderer The North Norfolk Light Railway yesterday. Left Deal at 0430hrs and headed for Dover, went over the A2 on the A256 intersection and that's where the back of the queue was! Cut across to the Alkham valley and joined the A20/M20 at The Roundhill tunnels and traffic was queuing just past the Folkestone end entrance, several miles!! Came back down the M20 at a little after midnight and the queue was not much past the Hythe turning where I came off and went down the A20 to Newington and took the tiny Crete Road West up over the Channel Tunnel terminal, Even my top of the range sat nav did not consider it A great view of the problems but awful driving after a 21 hour day!! Got to the Alham valley and up to Whitfield where the A2 queue started. I really felt sorry for the motorists in that heat yesterday! Cannot see why the French seem to perceive a threat coming from our direction!!
  13. As far as I am aware this is the main North Downs Way which is definitely a right of way. I feel an email to Dover District Council coming on if there is no prohibition notice displayed. Sorry I could not make it David, my foot has swollen up overnight, hope it's not gout!
  14. Got pretty uncomfortable late this afternoon, wasn't too bad earlier when we did our village SpeedWatch session. Got to call in at Dover tomorrow, so hope to take a look at the site, first time for a while. May see D.T. if I hear what time he'll be there!
  15. No problem David, I do have a long handled lopper (about 7ft), It's meant more for small branches but would that help with the view from above the portal?
  16. Been following this topic for months as a guest. I am not a modeller, gave all my gear (loads of it) to East Kent Light Railway recently (didn't even get a thank you email but that's not for here). Thought I would join to say my appreciation for David Todd's documentary as I've not needed to go across to Shakey for several months! It's been a fascinating insight and well appreciated as the project gets, at long last, to the sharp end! Hopefully I'll be able to get to Folkestone etc, with my push-bike before too much longer. Chris (retired, Ex T/T & P&O)
