  1. Hi again folks, It's been a little quiet on the 5.5mm front here, but that's not to say that nothing has been happening. Here are the latest pics from George Williamson, who's been working on restoring and improving his Towyn Wharf layout, as well as building brand new stock. Here we have a selection of TR wagons, including 3D printed hoppers, and scratchbuilt TR 'Boflats', one with prototypical crane. George has also added suitable 'scrap' items to add to the Towyn Wharf atmosphere.
  2. Quite. The 'update' has been a disaster.
  3. More pics from Steve Jones and David Hennessy of his layout. Although set in Wales, there's a hint of 3' gauge R&ER about it.
  4. Steve Jones' 'Pennant' was at Rainhill this weekend. Excellent modelling in 5.5mm scale.
  5. Astonishing and brilliant modelling by Barrie Johnston at ExpoNG this year: Many thanks to Max (Heisler) for the link.
  6. IIRC, there was an update on Lydney showing the doubled trackplan (but no pics unfortunately) in RM c.1971. Did anyone take pics of it in its final form at an exhibition? David.
  7. More fab pics from Expong at Swanley today: Francis Stapleton, Noel Adams, Rich Alvey and Max Brayne man the 5.5mm stand, and Barrie Johnston's Pen-y-Craig shows 5.5mm at it's very best. Many thanks to Andy Binns for the pics.
  8. .. And try attaching the correct file! (sorry folks)
  9. The all singing, all dancing 5.5mm Association stand at ExpoNG this weekend. Many thanks to Max (Heisler) for the pic.
  10. Hi folks, Here are some pics from today's AGM at the museum, Kidderminster SVR. Here we see Andrew Sewel''s FR stock and his model of Coed-y-Bleddiau on the FR, Francis Stapleton's 3D printed locos, a real blast from the past with a scratchbuilt Double Fairlie by Les Bennett that I acquired in 1986, A (very) freelance coach that you'll find in toy shops, made in China, is actually marked as 1/55th scale - I found iit in a charity shop in Menai Bridge for 50p! Kelvin White's 3D printed stock, The late Ken Unwin's scrathbuilt L&B masterpieces, George Williamson's (55thstudios) 5.5mm secondhand stand, kits and display, and Bob Grimshaw's excellent station building (all in card). Many thanks to all the folks who came along and showed their excellent models.
  11. Some 5 years ago George Williamson sold his Towyn Wharf 2013 layout (see earlier in this thread). After going through several owners, it's returned to George, a little battle scarred, but ready for restoration. Here are some pics of a new point, new fiddle yard and other bits hinting of future glories to come.
  12. Hi folks, Just a reminder that it's only a couple of weeks until the 5.5mm AGM at the SVR in Kidderminster. George Williamson will be bringing the 55thstudios secondhand stall to whet your appetite even more. Non members can sign up on the day - we'd love to see any new faces! David.
  13. Andrew Sewell's work has been featured here before with his work on Borth-y-Gest. Now he's turned his attention to Coed-y-Bleddiau ( I think I've spelt that correctly!) on the FR. Superb modelling in 5.5mm scale, together with a pic from the FR archives showing the real thing (thanks to Phil Coplestone for the link)
  14. Hi folks, Just to let you know that Harold Minkwitz (HMinky)'s site dealing with 3foot in 5.5mm scale is back up and running, with a slightly different URL: https://www.55n3.info Lots of terrific info available!
  15. George Williamson now has a 2nd hand department for 5.5mm scale. Here are some examples: a pick 'n' mix selection of wagons, a diesel shunter with a Mike Chinery chassis, 2 working Mike Chinery Palmerston chassis, 3D printed loco bodies and much more available at https://www.facebook.com/55thstudios-2034733416852922/
  16. More goodies on show at Steventon today with George Williamson's 55thstudios range - the former MSM kits from Malcolm Savage- now in production. Kelvin White, George Williamson and Noel Adams do the honours.
  17. The 5.5mm Association stand at Oxfordshire Narrow Gauge Modellers open day at Steventon today. George Williamson has revamped the sales stand with some fully finished kits (the erstwhile MSM range) and there's a selection of 5.5mm models to tempt punters into the scale. Thanks to George for the pic.
  18. Andrew Wilson sent me these photos from a few years ago, showing Tom Snook's layout. Here we see the late Roy Schofield's Welsh Pony, and my L&B Lyn. This latter I acquired many years ago from a friend in the 009 society, so the original maker is unknown.
  19. More of Andrew Wilson's freelance locos, all on the theme of a Kitmaster Italian Tank wedded to Tillig/Berlinerbahn 0-8-0 chassis. Three locos with greatly varying approaches, and some of the pics show construction details to show you how he did it all. Andrew's work represents some of the best in 5.5mm scale. Enjoy!
  20. Two more pics from Francis Stapleton showing further developments on the 3D 'Cambrai' 0-6-0.
  21. Hi folks, some new products in 3D for 5.5mm scale. TR Midlander on an MSM chassis, one of Max Brayne's wagons, and a Corpe 0-6-0 'Cambrai' lookalike from Simon Dawson (rue-d'etropal) for 16.5 on an Electrotren chassis. Many thanks to Francis Stapleton for the pics.
  22. Here's a better scan of Alphagraphix's Irish n.g. page showing further details. Add £1 to the price and they'll print them for you in 5.5mm. Alphagraphix 2018 Catalogue Irish Coaches LR.pdf
  23. Hi again folks, Looking for railway buildings and a cheap source of stock kits? Card may be the answer. Alphagraphix who do card kits for 4mm and 7mm can provide their wares scaled for 5.5mm for an extra £1. Here's an admittedly reduced scan of their catalogue to show what's on offer - from this you can get practically everything you need for buildings in 5.5mm scale, with lots of Irish n.g. prototypes for those modelling in 3' gauge. They don't have a website, but do have an ad every month in RM. Alphagraphix 2018 Catalogue LR.pdf
  24. Hi folks, The 2018 5.5mm Association AGM will be taking place on 15th September in the library room upstairs at Kidderminster SVR Museum, DY10 1QX We've changed the venue from Willaston as it's more central to the country so hopefully more folks will be able to attend, and Kiddy BR (or NR if you wish) is literally next door, with a good rail service on Saturdays for those who prefer not to drive long distances. You can park in the NR station carpark as it's a bit cheaper... We'll have access from midday, with the AGM itself at 2pm For food and general refreshments, there's a cafe in the ground floor of the museum, and a bigger restaurant on the station concourse itself. Please feel free to bring any models you have been working on, however large or small, they will be of interest to others. If you are considering joining the 5.5mm Association and haven't yet - why not join us for the AGM and join on the day? See you there! David.
