ISTR the final, climactic, scene of El Cid with Charlton Heston, in which he leads the christian army to victory against the Moors as a corpse strapped to his horse on a beach, one can see traffic moving on the coast road in the background, along with cranes constucting tourist hotels...

Spoiler alert? - I was hoping for a happy ending.

The problem, there, being that the red rear blind should be blank and the front blind should be white number on black background ..... the only answer would be a tiny liquid crystal display or similar.

    Hi,

I've been looking into this. An LCD may not have wide enough viewing angle. An OLED may be better but finding one the right size that can do White and Red on a Black Background is difficult at the moment.

Yes both centre headlight and the headcode blinds illuminate correctly at the front, regardless of direction.

It's just the rear blinds that don't illuminate.

    Hi,

What about the rear centre headlight - does that illuminate correctly?.

Had a chance to test my newly arrived sound-fitted South West Trains 3-CEP today.
All seems to be good, except the rear 'blinds' don't appear to illuminate in either direction.
Front blinds, centre headlight and saloon lighting all seem to be behaving fine.

Does anyone else have one, and if so, are yours working? Am I missing something obvious?
I couldn't see any mention in the manual of turning the rear lights on/off separately via a decoder function.

    Hi,

Could it be due to presumably inheriting some PCBs from the original Bachmann 4 CEP?.

Maybe that circuitry that allows  one decoder to operate lights throughout the 4 cars has a problem if a particular coaches PCB is not in the circuit along the EMU.

Is the rear centre headlight working properly on your model?.

  5. Hi,

I think during a round of Sound Charades on BBC Radio's I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue one team had to do a spoken word sketch to hint at the word Godzilla and did:

'And how is the supreme deity at the moment?.' - 'I don't like to say this but he wasn't very well yesterday and he's even worse today'.

I don't think anyone has mentioned KINESIS and I'm sorry if I missed it. Looking forwards to Warley to see about that one.

Speculating though, with a name like that, it could be an all new DCC system, maybe Bluetooth and yep, I think I'd be a taker if the case. 😊

    Hi,

    I did mention Kinesis.

  7. Hi,

Beggarwood's two months being all up in our club room has ended and just the scenic boards are now up until December when the whole layout should go up again. One problem that was found remains to be fixed -  the Juniors that ran short wheelbase locos over the junction under a bridge found a dead frog.

It looks like it may either be a microswitch problem or a dodgy track feed. Of course the bridge is not removeable - that would be too easy.

Also the third rail was found to be way too high in places so lowering the third rail may be a project to be done this month. I had a mad idea to run a very low voltage medium current through the third rail that could be detected by magnetic sensors on Electric stock and used to control third rails sparks effects on board the stock. During fitting of the third rail I had asked for the third rail to have wires attached at each end but that didn't happen. So maybe if the third rail is going to be relaid the wires could be added at the same time.

Bachmann have announced the Refurbished 4 CEP in various liveries and the EFE Bulleid Raworth Co-Co Electric Booster loco. So could be an expensive time ahead.

During the construction of Beggarwood there was a debate about putting BR SR 'Tramway' overhead in the goods reception road.

Now that the Hornby Class 71 is going to be joined by the Co-Co perhaps we should look at it again.

Unlike Pete Watermans latest OO layout we don't have the option of putting chunky hidden tensioners at both ends of the overhead wire as one end of the wire will be on full view in the goods yard.

Alas quite a few people still don't seem to 'latch-on' regarding newly tooled items in the EFE range although various of us have pointed out previously what is happening and where the design work and development is being done.  As a matter of interest will the Hornby/Booster be coming from the factory which made the Kernow Bulleid diesel?

    Hi,

I don't know what official connections various contributors to RMWeb have with model manufacturers.

So I commented on what I saw in the Bachmann video which didn't seem to mention Kernow as a partner or non Kader manufacturers.

  9. I find it interesting that Bachmann Europe are tooling the SR Co-Co Electric Booster loco in their EFE range.

Perhaps they are checking out whether one of their newer suppliers can produce a reasonably complex model including chassis from scratch. If it doesn't turn out to be as of good quality as the main Bachmann range it may not dent the main ranges reputation.

I'm going to find it hard to resist a Jaffa Cake 4-CEP. A few weeks ago I noticed the refurbished models (3-CEP and 4-TEP?) had the peak above the driving cab gangways removed - well done to Bachmann.

I wonder how long after release of the refurbished class 20's that some enterprising modeller gets the buffer beam mounted lights working on the inner (no 1?) ends.

  10. Hi,

I have my doubts that one is electrostatic.

One way you might check if two conventional DCC decoder speakers are in phase is to connect the speakers in series and close together (DCC power off), play a moderately loud sound, turn off the power, swap one of the speakers terminals round and play the sound again. Which ever arrangement gives the louder sound is the arrangement you should use (mark the terminals of the speaker without polarity markings to match the other one.

  11. Jokes only on this thread - it shouldn't be hard to understand. Jokes have a mental twist, difficult to write comments instead and have a mental twist without losing the point.

I'm sitting doing some bird watching on a beach at present but if I'm forced to send some more puns to discipline offenders I will leave no Tern Un-stoned.
