Recent models have been all over the place regarding the time from announcement to availability (I present the case of the Accurascale Manor, m'lud).

I don't disagree with the point you are making but I do not think you have chosen a good example to illustrate it. Accurascale are very good at explaining/communicating delivery timescale changes - so not 'all over the place' rather an explained rescheduling.

  2. So I bought a second 033, a carmine red one to go with my maroon preorder. I actually prefer the carmine red. And I am looking forward to ordering a suitable (for my era) O62 in the next batch.

But my reason for posting is this. As I was removing the clam shell from the box a coupling hook pinged out - it must has worked loose in transit. Fortunately it hit something metal on my desk rather than simply looping through the air on to the carpet. And the rod attached to the brake lever is wonky because the support bracket on the opposite side is not secured.

These are easy fixes (providing nothing gets lost). But what is the factory specification for this sort of thing? There is no evidence of glue - are they just a push fit? I certainly don't want excess glue spoiling things - but is there a risk that other things will just 'pop out' when trundling around a layout?

How long do these take to deliver.  I ordered mine last month nothing yet

I ordered a set of bricks on 27th April and got what I take to be evidence of their

    despatch 2 days ago.

So the E140s were only paired.  How similar is the E145 where there were singletons?

The truss rods will be different to accommodate the longer bogie and the pivot point for the bogie is further away from the ends so the solebar rivet detail is at a different location for the cross beam for the bogie.

Yes. This was covered earlier in the thread. Although you will find lots of references along the lines of 'the two diagrams were the same, except that E145 had different bogies' it is more accurate to say that the E145's had different underframes, to accommodate the longer bogies.

No; they're seams rather than ribs. A rib would be an overlaid strip.

I expect that perfectionists will say that they are too prominent - but I think that this photo shows what they have tried to reproduce. I am certainly not going to loose any sleep over them. (And in the rule 1 world, given the numbering of the 2 I have, I can imagine the slight difference in roof styles is a difference between the Pressed Steel and Ashford built lots.)

I think the need for underframe detail depends on the angle that you view the model at. I often run my layout at eye-level, the extra detail is then noticeable, if you are looking down, it is irrelevant.

Similarly internal detail - my attic has a large window and in good light everything inside e.g. a passenger coach is clearly visible.

Let's give these guys some support they might just decide to do the APCM PVV Cement van next ...................

Well as they seem to have got the Ferry Link logo the right size and shape I thought I would add to my Rapido plain bauxite one, even though they are unlikely visitors to North Devon in the mid 1960s.

As for 'scaling up' having done all the research etc. I can see the logic - and hope that RevolutioN consider the same for their Class 120 DMU idc.

  8. There must be a reasonable argument that the only bad duplication is one that does not sell. And given the costs involved it is difficult to believe that a manufacturer is ever going to embark on a duplication project without considering the likely market.

    Oh goody, more duplication!

But an improvement isn't duplication. It is great that Hornby have invested in the new bluetooth system. But I suspect it means that they will finally need to bite the bullet and review their locos to see which need some sort of retooling/redesign to make the most of a modern control system with sound. Meanwhile others will see opportunities to get in first.

My contribution to this thread from today’s running. A (hopefully) realistic slice of the WCML in N.

It is interesting so see that people are lauding TT120 for having 'more heft' than N. But i think this is an example of the real strength of N, the ability to create 'panoramic realism'.

Whilst I definitely agree with you on this, I think, iirc, that Cl117 & 121 only carried GrSYP for a very short time towards the end of the 60's before they got repainted into all blue. The other missing livery not mentioned is the short-lived white with blue stripe, which i'm pretty sure no Cl121 ever carried, but a few Cl117 did.

GrSYP would have applied approximately 1964-67 - a relatively short period but a popular one from a modelling perspective, and probably not that much shorter duration than for the original release of Lined Green without panels.

  12. On the new livery front we have yet to see either the CL117 or CL121 in GrSYP.

On the retooling front the Collett coaches must be due an update, given that Bachmann have now produced high quality mainline coaches to (post war) LMS, LNER and SR designs.

Just for clarification, when I made my original point a few posts back, I was trying to express what might be the overall, majority view.

The post that started this long thread said that the aim was to showcase 'the most inspiring and realistic imagery'. And by and large that seems to be how it is actually used - realism in context, across the whole field of view. Indeed that is how you yourself have used it, to the benefit of the rest of us.

I have some sympathy with your point about raising awareness - but in my experience you are far more likely to come across some useful but unexpected insight in one of the many specialist threads rather than waiting for happenstance to make it cross your screen.

Now, with a couple of long weekends ahead, lets hope that someone takes us back to inspiring images.

At the end of volume 3 in Larkin's 'Acquired Wagons' series, which deals with 1923 spec wagons, is a promise of coverage of pre grouping and 1907 spec wagons. Volume 5 is about to be published, with a focus on 'open goods', so maybe they will be swept up into that. But I think that there are further volumes 6 and 7 in the pipeline, so it maybe that one of those will provide a better fit.

Alas Volume 5 says that pre 1923 PO coal wagons will be covered by a later volume.
