  1. Very disappointed to have received an email from a well known Liverpool based retailer this morning saying that my money has been refunded for my Sun Castle because they are sold out; I must have been one of the first to order with them, immediately following the announcement of the Hornby A2/3 so how can they be sold out of it?  I have emailed back my disappointment but Has anyone else received such an email?

  2. There’s been discussion on the Hornby A2/3 thread about how it would be great if someone would produce an A2/1 body to fit into the new Hornby A2/3 chassis to create the A2/1.

Sounds ds right up your street, niu!

Just ordered Steady Aim which will become Honeyway while my Sun Castle will become the later Steady AIM.

No it doesn't sound thick as there is a "family resemblance" with Thompson Pacifics, that could lead one to believe that they're very similar. The wheel base is very similar, but the A2/1s were derived from v2's, as V2 boilers were used. Landscapes who frequently posts on this thread has a PDK kitbuilt A2/1. And an A2/3. Cab layout, smoke deflectors and the layout of the s bend in the foot plate differ and so on. Apparently when DJH produced their Thompson kits the A2/1 was considered, along with the A2/2 and A2/3. But dismissed due to significant differences. Hornby I recall hearing came to the same conclusion. PDK do a  kit of the a2/1 if you want one. And Mick Bennet has converted a Bachmann peppercorn A2 to an A2/1 using Graeme King resin parts and Morgan Gilbert's etched valve gear. Will we ever see an A2/1 RTR? Well each member of the class is different from the other but who would have believed we'd have any RTR Thompson 18 months ago.

    Hope that helps

Thanks for all the answers. Maybe niu might be interested in producing a new boiler and cab to fit to the A2/3 chassis....?

Will you be giving any of the profits to help restore Bellerophon? How do you propose to record it for the sound-fitted  version, being that it is awaiting a 10 year overhaul and is unable to run for the forseeable future?

Are any of the larger and wealthier manufacturers - Hornby, Bachmann, Heljan and Dapol - giving any of their profits to help restore the original locos of their models?

  6. Very nearly a quid to send a letter by Royal Mail now. When we went decimal in February 1971, first class post was 3p the equivalent of 43p in today’s values, but the cost today is actually almost twice that at 85p.  Larger letters and parcels are correspondingly more. And Royal Mail wonder why people do their best not to use them.

Just done a quick Google image search for the past 50 years of covers and without running the statistical analysis on them they look to have steam items on about 70%.

70's seem to be in the main Cuneo style images many include items that have never been seen as RTR models.

I remember the Cuneo Condor one; it took me ages to spot the mouse!

I had a couple requests for smoke box / chimney the kits for Royal Scots and a Turbomotive conversion. With luck I might have something underway in the New Year.

I think parts to convert ready run Scots into 6399 Fury would be attractive.

Flying Scotsman is the Kardashian of railway locos - famous for being famous and everyone seems to have more than they need or want.....

If it were a Kardashian it would have a huge tender behind........

I ask as on your site it appears I would make two payments, the £50 deposit and then the remaining amount.

Also your site says sound fitted Fell diesel costs £207.50 but if paying via instalments the cost appears to be £253.50.

I am fully supportive of KR models and wish you every success but you need to make it clear how much total costs will be regardless of payment method and explain how many payments are required when paying via instalments.

    It is anything but clear.

It has put me off ordering

As it is going ahead, it would appear that thousands of others, me included, have found it quite clear and have not been put  off ordering.

  11. A new suggestion;  any chance of the replacement headcode box fitted in 1965 to class 40s numbers D260-D266? They had square corners rather than rounded seen on D345-D399. Better still would be a sort of headcode box“frame” with square corners but which allowed use of the existing headcode box to fit to a Bachmann D345-D399 so the illuminated headcode could still be used.

    dont want much, do I..................!

I think Judith Edge kits supply/used to supply etched parts for these?  Not specifically listed on their website but mentioned as an option for their kit for a Clayton.  https://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/catalogue/judithedge.html

Maybe it was something just available at exhibitions?

There is a thread for them on here, if it is of interest and you were perhaps not aware of that option.

Thanks, yes, but they are flat brass which needs shaping, attaching and filling which may be the most basic of modelling but my old eyesight isn’t very good and getting progressively worse, hence the suggestion for pre-shaped plastic versions.

    Age gets us all.

Certainly can look into this. Would you be able to post up a few photos of the loco with the raised bonnet so I can see what's involved.

Not sure if I can without breaking copyright but I might be able to post some links to photos or sites.
