  1. Some rather nice verdant scenery down towards those tunnels, so perhaps a name with green in it. Or if its southernish , a nod to the continent. Verdham? Lots of trees, Ashdon? A stream towards the left hand bridge would be fun to model, so a name with bridge or ford in it might be fitting, and there are plenty about.

I like the panda police car too, that takes me back to my youth.....

  2. Thanks mikkel. That pic of the crane led me to a very enjoyable few hours exploring the railways of Copenhagen on google earth. It really is a civilised looking place.

I messed about with a similar thing to the liquid lead a long while back, fishing shot in pva. I too had a an expansion and cracking problem; I suspect the pva water content forms oxides. So I now tend to make a former from scrap brass etch and fill it with old fashioned plumbers solder, of which I have a stack. The resulting custom weights I just stick into spaces with a spot of silicone, any trouble they can be just pulled out.

  3. Aye, we bump into each other on various forums Steve, Your models just get better and better, all the best for 2017. Also your involvement with the silhouette enthused me to get one; best bit of modelling kit I have bought in years.

I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about roofs on coaches and vans, since at some point I have a rake of grampian corridor stock to build. I use an iMac, to get into it you stick a sink plunger on the middle of the big glass screen and pull.( Stop laughing, really it works )  Yep, its held on with magnets glued to the glass. So, model roof held on with magnets, get inside to clean, easier to paint.  if someone has tried it point me at it, if not, well, I'll report back.

    Cheers

  4. Some very nice modelling. With regard to the CR Bogie wagon, its No. 72000. There only was one built to test the idea in 1899, and it remained unique. The later CR bogie wagons were of all steel construction, built almost a decade later. There is a thread on the CRA forum and good photos in "The True Line" No. 68.

I don't know why Ratio chose to make of a kit of it, I suspect it may be due to there being a drawing of it on the cover of "Historic wagon drawings" by F.J.Roche.

  5. Interesting thread, lots of good advice. I keep looking at lathes, but keep coming back to the conclusion that my old Perris Moldelmaker is all I actually need. The Tray on which it sits was "borrowed" from a works canteen back in the days when works had canteens and cooked yard square bakewell tarts and the like.

  6. Well, my first post on RMweb.

This thread and the one over on the CRA forums convinced me to buy a portrait. So far I have I have really enjoyed learning how to use it, the information all of you have provided has meant I avoided a lot of basic mistakes and made the learning curve a lot gentler than it would otherwise have been.

In time I might post some pics, but I still have the L plates on for now. My thanks to you all for helping me get started with it all.
