  1. Hi Connor - I am DCC - I love having the sound in the trains. Express Models do DCC ready lighting kits. It does take a little effort - but the effect is definitely worth it You just have to be really careful about getting a light-proof seal between the body and the roof to stop any light bleed. I take the coach apart completely, all the glazing, etc, weather and then reassemble, add microstrip and glue and glaze between the roof and the sides - as per the photo of the upside down body shell.
  2. Hi aac, thanks for the comments - as for the the Iphone speakers - I use the double ones supplied by Road and Rails (I am a very satisfied customer!). They work fine with Loksound V4 decoders - but if you are not sure talk to them - whenever I have had a query they have been really helpful. In my opinion the sound reproduction is the best I have heard for their size.
  3. I thought I would also post a few more pics of the layout. It has had a lot of the details added recently, but no real time for running sessions! However, I have added some of the details around the station, especially the lighting and trees. I need to build these trees up a little more to stop too many shadow effects on the backscene - but in general I think it is shaping up well. So the station and provender store (taken during various stages of completion on the layout!)
  4. Hi All, thanks for all the kind comments and likes - it is much appreciated. Connor - I used the express models lighting kits - I have been experimenting around with a few types of lighting kits - but I do like the effect of the Express Models ones. The key thing is to make sure the gap between the roof and coach sides is filled in and blacked out to stop light bleed.
  5. Hi Michael, yes - it was a gloss surface - I think it was because I only used microset instead of water - but never mind! It is now more of a challenge to weather it away. My transfers are often a bit hit and miss! More weathering to go now.
  6. As a very occasional poster in the 0 gauge section, but a regular reader of RMweb, I thought I would take the plunge and a write a few posts on my 00 gauge efforts, building a small model railway, based in North Devon. The layout is is loosely based between the 1970s and 1980s and I am close to finishing off the layout and some pieces of rolling stock. It is all DCC controlled, with sound on the engines. First up is my class 22 which I finished a few months ago. I was really pleased with how this one turned out - I think it sounds great! It is fitted with Howes sound and a Road and Rails Iphone speaker. All comments and posts are welcome!
  7. A very long time has passed since my last post! However, I have made a little bit of progress! (I did say it was a slow burner project!!) I attempted to add some transfers to the SPV parcels wagon - and had a bit of a disaster. I am sure user error! I had some bad yellowing of the transfers when I applied them. I know it looks like silvering, but it as actually a yellow hue. I have put transfers on a lot of wagons, but this was my first attempt at using some Fox 0 gauge transfers. The was a nasty yellow gunge left after the transfer - it is undoubtedly user error - but I am currently having to weather this away!. So results so far.....
  8. Hi John, thanks for the reply this is really helpful and has made things a lot clearer. Will attempt to make some progress on this build now chris
  9. A long silence has ended and I am back modelling again after a house move! I am currently building a slaters 13t open wagon and I am a bit stuck about which side to place the vacuum cylinder on? I have added the vacuum pipe down the length of the wagon and I presume this is on the same side as the cylinder? Any help would be much appreciated......
  10. I have made a little but more progress on the parcels SPV - although Janurary has not seen a lot of modelling. So since the last post I have added a bit of white over the top of the faded blue finish, just to tone it down a little. The lightening on the pictures is a bit harsh, but I am pretty pleased so far, it is not quite as light as it looks. Tonight for the first time this month I have got the airbrush working again and starting spraying the underframe. A light weathering to follow after picking out some of the details before applying the transfers. So progress so far.
  11. So I have made a little more progress on the parcel wagon front. The main coats of blue and faded blue have been air brushed on. Another coat of white will be applied to the very top of this before painting the underframe and a bit of weathering before transfers. I have got the railtec transfers for this in stock - so hopefully I will get this finished over the xmas break. A very happy xmas to one and all!!
  12. Thanks all so far for your comments and support - it is much appreciated and I am very glad I have signed up to the RM Web. At the moment I am working on a couple of 0 gauge wagon builds and I will post some of these when I have made some more progress. I am in the midst of building an 00 gauge layout and I find my motivation for this is getting lower, whilst I am spending more time doodling some track plans for an 0 gauge micro layout.....I think I am going to take the plunge and order some baseboards after xmas. After all, an 0 gauge class 08 has just arrived in BR blue. At the moment I have a SPV wagon in the paintshop, built from the Parkside Dundas kit last summer. It is early days in the painting process, the wagon has been pre-shaded and is now having some coats of faded rail blue applied to it. I tend to take a while when painting a wagon, with about 20 coats of thin paint applied via air brush. Within this I try to build the weathering in with livery applications so it all blends together. So progress so far.......
  13. No problems Brian - and thanks for the comment 101 - I think I will leave this one alone!!! Anyhow - have had no time at all for any modelling this week so far....hopefully a better weekend to come!
  14. HI Brian, no criticism taken and thanks for the comment - and I agree it would definitely look better! It is one of those things I always intend to do but never quite get round too - but I think I will try removing the paint from the buffer shanks in my next modelling session
  15. HI all - thank you for the warm welcome to RM Web - it is much appreciated. Modelling progress has been very slow recently, as work took me away to Greece for a couple of weeks (it is a tough life!) - but I have a slaters 13t wagon on my workbench and a free evening so hopefully some progress today! Anyhow my second finished wagon for the micro layout is a Grampus wagon from the Parkside kit. Again this is painted and weathered with an air brush and is the only other 0 gauge wagon I have finished so far....although there is a 12t parcels van currently in the paintshop.....and the Dapol class 08 has just arrived...... All comments welcome!
  16. HI Brian thanks for the comment - yes I am looking forward to showing my 0 gauge endeavors and also asking for help when I (frequently) get stuck! Yes with the brake levers - I glued one on and one off (on the other side). I figured with a small micro layout - sometimes the wagons will just be hanging around in the sidings....so I thought I would just see how it looks....although it does look a bit odd I must agree!
  17. I am embarking on a long term project to build a small 0 gauge layout, set firmly in the 1970s/80s BR blue period, in North Devon. I am new to RM web and this is my first attempt to find some like minded souls and share my modelling. The layout has not been started yet, but I have built a few wagon kits and there are more builds on the horizon. I have previously modelled in 00 gauge, but am finding myself more and more tempted by 0 gauge, hence the decision to finally build a few wagon kits and make a start. Before the layout is started, I thought I would share a few post of wagons completed so far. The layout is a slow burner project, so building a few wagon kits from time to time certainly helps feel like the project is progressing......and I have also ordered a Dapol 08 and this will need somewhere to run when it (finally) arrives...... So to start with a few photographs of an 0 gauge sand wagon, seconded into the engineers department. This is the Parkside kit, which was painted and weathered using a basic airbrush set up. This is the first of the wagons for the layout. Happy to hear any comments.....
