Can you use the points towards a BIG BREAKFAST? Good luck with that Stadium Buddy.

    I don't rate Tesco Breakfasts!

    You need one of these.

Available from our local cafe in Uckfield called Mojave.

If you are ever in Uckfield I'll buy you one. Provided of course you get a doctors certificate!!!!!

  2. Very Impressive Andy.

My modelling is stuck for a bit - I still have a few repairs to stock to do after the recent running session but I am currently building a 1/32 scale grandstand for a friend for his Scalextric.

All the best and don't forget there are double points on Mojo boxes with a Tesco Clubcard. (other loyalty cards are available but you can't get Tesco Finest Mojo in Sainsburys!)

I wouldn't pressure him - if he's happier doing a bit of bodging in between strumming guitars then I'm happy for him.

Asking for more content might take the fun out of it, which is what is should be.

Yes good point. His bodging is a class act!

Finally the D&S GUV has been finished and etch primed. Now I just need to fit glazing and window bars and the curved handrails for the end with the steps onto the roof.

Then I can fix the roof on permanently.

    P1000932a.JPG.796938cd7dccc79daaccfdaf97456252.JPG

Initially I was planning on painting it in LNER brown, but I think I might paint it in a faded BR crimson instead now?

The next projects to start now are an Easybuild Derby 2 car set (what became Class 108) and the station building that I commissioned from Phil at Intentio to laser cut for me.

I’ve started the DMU by preparing the sides and roof. All the holes have been drilled for the hinges, doorstops and handrails. The doors were scored more deeply and the edges trimmed with a razor blade to remove the burr.

The sides were then rubbed down with wet and dry.

As the sides are curved I couldn’t use a ruler to guide the scoring of the door lines, so I used a square of thin brass sheet that could be curved around the side to guide the knife blade.

    P1000934a.JPG.92334c482a3b6f94f3c61a56477092f0.JPG

I am still deciding whether to try to replicate the seams on the roof panels on the roof.

Rather than weld lines, these appear to be riveted panels that are either 2’ 6” or 2’ wide, with seams covering the joins.

Easybuild suggest using 20 thou plastic rod glued into pre-scored lines on the roof, but this doesn’t seem to replicate the appearance of the prototype roof.

So I’m not sure whether to leave the roof plain or try using some very thin tape to simulate those seams?

I have marked out one roof and made a curved brass jig to mark out and score the lines if I decide to go ahead with this?

Anybody have any other suggestions for how to model this?

I got a couple of the Intentio LNWR panels to test beforehand and I was so pleased with the look I asked Phil to make a set of panels for a full station.

The station is modelled on the LNWR wooden panel buildings, as I wanted something other than all the other brick buildings that already feature on the layout.

    P1000933a.JPG.af3fb72edda8d09e5182ddd21af3668f.JPG

I’m still waIting for some of the parts from Phil at Intentio before I can make a start on this though, but hopefully it will add to the planned LNWR heritage of the layout.

When I made my Westdale BG I used self adhesive address labels cut very thinly and just stuck on - see photo below.

Although they are stuck on, once the roof is painted and varnished it will remove any tendency for them to lift. You could probably cut them thinner than I did. The labels I used were those intended for a Dymo labling machine and came on rolls but any A4 label set would do.

I have masses of them so if you want to send me a PM with your address I would happily post some to you. You probably only need about 4 tables for two cars.

Looks very nice....... Is that the new CCTV for the level crossing hiding behind the loco?

    Yes that's right Jim!

It's the wife's GoPro which is actually a very good piece of kit. Shame I forgot to remove it before I took the photo

I hope none of the DMU passengers are nursing a hot cup of tea in their laps!

I know. Slow speed control on the controller I am using isn't that clever.

I have heard that you don't get these issues with DCC but I am not ready to go down that road

  7. Had a first real run out for the B2 since it was built.

Sadly the loco did not perform as well as expected and I also noticed that it has stained a couple of knocks along the way that will need retouching. I think a good run in on the rolling road is required plus some more oiling of the axles/bearings. Nonetheless it does have a good turn of speed.

I will collate most of the video into one or two programmes rather than posting short clips

  8. Had the layout up in the garden today choir proving runs.

I am pleased to say the new board works without issue and the wiring seems to be fine although I was not able to test the Dapol signal as I ran out of time.

Here is the 08 on the first proving run

And here is the first run of the Wickham Trolley.

I also had the 56 out for the firs time

    Impressive!

As the layout has not been out for over a year I am pleased with this.

I still have a dodgy point motor and I have to run some more wiring to deliver a 20v AC supply to the starter board at the Witham end to power the Dapol signal. I was pleased to find again that the necessary connections are already in place that I can use.

All ready for the full running session tomorrow.

  9. Going for an operating session or sessions this week now that there is a pretty good chance of decent rain free weather. I have put together a few more cassettes which always seemed to be in short supply and altered this one which was tight to gauge.

    cassette-1.jpg.6b80f74da515e5dcab5be18e02e240a6.jpg

Watch out for more photos and video.

Should see the first run out of the 56's and HEA's.

I've got a bit more wiring to change and install another Dapol signal on the first board which will be the inner home from the Witham direction. It does mean however that I need to run another 20v AC connection across the board end and install a rectifier. I am also going to make the board into an isolating section as per the one at the Braintree end.

Well, I’ve gone and done it again..

Rails of Sheffield have class 31’s for less than £300. I couldn’t resist any

more so 31420 will be born, which is out of era for my depot but I guess paves the way for 58’s in blue

    Yes an excellent bargain.

Nothing I want in that lot although I don't think I could persuade the wife to let me have one more blue 56!!!!

  11. So I have now rewired the main line as indicated above and I can isolate a train at the signal.

The Dapol signal is now fitted in place

    Signal-1.jpg.0661e4493f81547b2037184752465b3a.jpg

I did have issues with sighting in the original position but placing the signal box closer to what will eventually be the backscene gets round the sighting issues.
