  1. Wow. This makes the Mornington Crescent rules look easy...
  2. That, according to the huge press it got recently, must have been what Rod Stewart's roadies had to face. " got some Princess to sort out tonight mate, then some little bags of powder, then we'll do some lines"! Ie, "can you put the LMS transfers on this tender, then apply some earth mix round the water tower, and then there's five yards of code 100 Flexi for the fiddle yard..."
  3. I for one can't wait to see it! Not only because ot was my home turf in the 60s, but also for the reason you give, in that enormous, (but not THIS enormous), layouts in "public" places, were very much a thing then. Not only at many seaside resorts, but, especially at this time of year, in large department stores. I applaud Simon's move, our great hobby needs to be more in the public eye.
  4. Don't mention static grass.. It's a dirty word in our house at present. If I say - 4mm Spring Green, New gray carpet and "Whoops" I'm sure you can fill in the blanks! On a different, yet oddly connected tack, in my teen spotting days, late60s/early 70s, Kirkgate station allegedly had a "hole in wall" which was why THAT end of the platform was studiously avoided... There were certainly odd goings on, er, going on!
  5. Best wishes for tomorrow! I'm not able to get there this weekend, work being the curse of the modelling classes etc, but hopefully will be braving the M1 for pleasure for a change, next weekend. Just a quick question, is admission able to be paid on card, (I honestly don't remember when I last used cash)?!
  6. And I used to worry about four 5x3s in a Transit.... Glad the tea's packed though. Priorities!
  7. I can see a really useful blue engine.... And Thomas!
  8. Bar stools? I'm planning to bring a short length of lineside fencing for some Mugwumping. One assumes there will be a small stand dispensing Tizer, squashed egg butties and Harvest fruit pies?
  9. Similar story here... I was going to ask the same question. Not so exotic locations for me I'm afraid though... Hackney, Dudley and Eccles seem to be my lot recently!
  10. .. And if we backdate it a bit you could include:- Bradley curve, Pickle Bridge branch, Leeds New Line, LMS Newtown goods branch, Mirfield Station, Clecky Branch and Thornhii Jcn. Just chuck in 56D and full speed signalling and you've got a winner i reckon
  11. Hmmm. A Vox AC 50 in each and the Dead's Wall of Sound would start to look a bit tame! Wouldn't mind an hour in that empty basement with a cranked Marshall (or 5) though!
  12. The weirdest thing I ever saw was a brand new gleaming blue electric, prob an AL6/86 being towed westbound through Mirfield by an incredibly filthy and clanky (even by their standards) 2-8-0 "Aussie".
  13. I agree, but its a train/loco that a lot of younger folk can still recognise and pester Mum/Dad to take them. Smart marketing I reckon. I'd prefer a nice Coal sector 60 oe summat but.... Or GT3, or.....
  14. Seriously. A fiver?????? I paid more than that for some seriously underwhelming shows 20 odd years ago. Obviously as a Yorkshireman, I am as tight as the proverbial, but.... I can see me having 20 quidsworth at least if work permits! Best of luck with the venture Simon, I've been looking forward to this!
  15. Well. You know all those dummy axle counters you made Simon???!!!
  16. Apologies if everyone else in the World bar me has seen this, but I found this on YouTube. The full layout in real life, plus a diversion to the Bradley flyunder including the (apparently now doomed footbridge)! The whole 3 hour thing is a tad overkill, but fast forward to 3:05:10 to "leave the fiddle yard".
  17. Reminds me of the much abused Concorde adverts. Breakfast in London Dinner in Aberdeen Car in Lowestoft
  18. I remember seeing trains of carflats passing Mirfield in the 70s, mostly empty, but occasionally loaded, usually Land Rovers. Would a Motorail train surely have passenger coaches too? Not criticising, just curious! On a previous matter, can't wait to see the TP set in action. Has it got sound? The exhaust used to hit resonance in third gear under acceleration and give a real rattly bellow!
  19. I can't believe that I've only just "discovered" Heaton Lodge! More of an armchair modeller these days, but how inspiring is this project! I spent many hours at the place both as a kid in the 60s, and as a minor photographer in the mid 80s. I watch with interest. Were the "bin liners" running in the modelledb era??? They were an example of freight using the Stanage route!
