  1. This page has gone dead, is there a loss of interest? I would have thought with the levels of lockdown posts would have increased.
  2. It would be good if he were to make them available in future. The same with Bill Bedford etches.
  3. David K71, Thank you for the list of coaches you made and posted pic's of, and their origins. With regard to Masterclass and Bill Bedford I don't think either of them are currently producing N gauge etches...unless there is an avenue to purchase them I am unaware of? I have previously "won" some Bill Bedford LMS etches via ebay. I am currently working my way through a batch of 9 Worsley Works etches purchased a short while before the fairly overall lockdown. These are a step-up for me having to use solder, but I'm doing o.k. and it is very much a learning curve for me. I'm finding they need my complete concentration, and I am forced to walk away and let some parts set or dry. In 60 years of making models from my early Airfix plane days, I have always been an "eager beaver" anxious to move to the next stage. None of this with the Worsley Works etches though, so this old dog is learning a thing or three! I am currently building a W/Works diagram L21 GWR T.P.O. and mentioned to the proprieter Alan, that I think some LMS versions would be a good addition to his range. He replied that he will look into doing some of them once the current covid situation abates.
  4. DavidK71 Good to hear from you, your work is an inspiration to me. Can you please say/list what are the sources of etched sides/kits please...during normal circumstances? Thanks Steve
  5. Here's a couple more pics. The 12 wheel Dining car is my first attempt at a Worsley works offering. All a bit of a learning curve with bending and soldering, but a great feeling of satisfaction when you've pretty much cracked it. I bought two of these D1901s amongst eight I purchased. Currently working my way through the remaining six that are all different. I think if somebody was to produce a 3D printed 6 wheel bogie more people would have a go at dining cars and sleepers. I have "cut and shut" some Farish mk 1 bogies. It works, but is it's not the best solution.
  6. Nig H, Some nice work there. I wonder how many people have, amongst other things, some coach etches they have brought out of "hibernation" ? Here's 2 pics of my recently completed carriages.
  7. The last post on here was 5/12/19. What are people up to with coach building, especially if like so many you are in isolation? I have been making some Worsley Works LMS coaches. Am I correct in thinking it's just Etched Pixels, BHE, and Worsley Works selling coach etches at the current time? I am aware that Etched Pixels have suspended sales during Covid 19, due to self isolation, like my wife and I.
  8. Just tried to have a look at Etched Pixels website but it appears to be down.
  9. Hello Alan, Thank you for your reply. I bought some vinyl and have made a couple in the way you describe... you explained your method to me a while back. It's doable, but I find it a tad tedious/laborious. This is why I have broached the question of another way of them being produced. Laser cutting of card seems to be popular, would this be an option?
  10. I am trying to think of what could be used to create the internal coach corridors. I have examples of the acetate ones supplied by etched pixels, and a metal one of unknown origin that was included in a job-lot of coach parts. Would it be possible for corridors to be produced by laser cutting, from a stouter material than thin acetate? Perhaps a continuous strip could be produced that would suffice for 4 or 5 coaches, and could be cut to the required length? Could they be 3D printed maybe?
  11. Ah' sorry, I am referring to the divider between corridor and the compartments. Yes their will be variation but something like a LMS 57ft corridor is fairly standard. I would think if we had some standard corridors some adaptation could be used as required.

  13. This is probably the wrong place to post this, but here goes. When the King class was announced by D.J. I had a few emails back and forth with him. Yes, he did have a very "matey" sort of way about him. I have just had an email from DJ saying I just want to share this with my "friends", and a link to a website. Extremely reluctant to open it for a few reasons, but just wondered if anyone else has had the same email?
  14. Thank you to those who have replied with suggestions. I have visited two large Halfords and two branches of Trago Mills in Cornwall that stock the Hycote range of spray cans. They do not stock the colours suggested for B.R. cream, so I can only conclude these are now obsolete colours. Therefore suggested colours could do with an update. I have found the Ford Rosso red which is readilly available from both outlets to be a good partner for the cream. I am currently doing a bit of an experiment. B&Q have a paint mixing facility for Valspar paints. They claim to be able to mix some 2 million colours. I once took a mossy green kitchen cabinet door to them which they scanned. They produced some paint that was an identical match. Yesterday I went to B&Q with a 5cmx5cm swatch of Railmatch acrylic B.R. cream. They scanned it to produce a match pot for me. Now, it is an emulsion paint and after another coat or two and some days drying it will need a spray of gloss varnish to assist the decal adhesion. Using Railmatch acrylic I need to airbrush 3 coats to get the depth of colour. My "experiment " may prove to be a no-no, only time will tell. I'm attaching a photo taken yesterday that shows how close they can match colours, and how much of the tester pot I got for £3. It may prove inadequate for coach painting, but it does show that your local B&Q could mix a specific colour that you may want for a rock face, fields, backscene etc.
  15. Well it's 7 years since the last post on this topic. I came across it as I am looking for a spray can colour for the cream in a blood and custard duo. Halfords do not appear to stock the Gazelle beige and it's not in the Hycote range. Can anyone suggest an alternative match in a spray can please?
  16. Alan, So pleased it wasn't accurate information. Word gets around pretty damned quick these days on forums etc. This is why I made the point I had not heard it from yourself, and great you have responed and put the record straight. You are right about the price of Farish stuff, which in today's increasingly divided levels of disposable income will see many either unable or unwilling to pay their prices. Even with their "allowed" 15% discounts much is still very expensive. I have a real hunch that more people will be tempted to try their hand building some coaches. In the 18 months I've been building I have learnt SO much about coaches, and find it an enjoyable and consuming subject. An 1860s Mansion. In my early days as a carpenter during the start of the 70s I worked for a builder in central Bristol. We maintained a number of adjacent Georgian properties. Much work was reproduction on the listed buildings, so I can well understand your task in hand!
  17. I have in the last couple of weeks placed a largish order with Etched Pixels. I did not hear it from proprieter Alan, but I am led to believe that during the move into his current premises some masters (for want of another description) for certain etches were damaged by removal staff. Very unfortunate if this is the case. Has anyone else heard similar?
  18. As I have become more adept at coachbuilding I have also started to re-visit some earlier attempts. I aspire to reach your standards David K71!
  19. Some of us put our faith in him to come up with the goods and deliver. Others were more sceptical and were is some cases holding back to see if and what he delivered. Having paid deposits for two Kings I sent him personal emails on a few occasions. The last one was to voice my concern at his lack of updates to people who had paid deposits. He could certainly convey things how he wanted them to be perceived, would sometimes rant a bit and point the finger at others for his predicaments. I doubt we will ever get to know what really occurred within DJM. What I do think is he is finished in the manufacturing side of model railways. This episode must surely have sealed his fate. I'm not so sure it would even be wise for him to attend an exhibition as a paying visitor with the levels of hostility toward him.
  20. I still haven't received anything in the post from CG&Co., has anybody else ? Are we expected to print the proof of debt form that Colin kindly attached to his email, complete it and post this to our Credit card companies? (I always thought that stuff of a legal nature needed to be posted with a signature when received) Sorry readers to seem a tad thick here, but after speaking to a chap at CG&Co and emailing him my D.J, receipt I'm here waiting for forms in the post from them. I doubt I'm the only one unclear what is supposed to be happening with this, can somebody put me/us out of my confusion please. Thanks in advance.
  21. I couldn't open it either, tried several times. Is this instead of a postal communication from them? I was of the impression we were getting some documentation in the post to substantiate our CC claims...? All a tad vague, and if you are not that p.c savvy it is a delay we could do without.
  22. I have had exactly the same happen this morning Matt.
  23. How about a few people posting their experiences thus far in pursuing a refund from their credit card company. ? There could well be some dirty linen that will come out when the insolvency gets under way, possibly enough to satisfy many people. It's early days with much to be investigated, yet this has turned into open season, a sort of who can we point the finger at next with some..
  24. I'd like to ask this question again. Has anyone managed to make phone contact with either Dave Jones or the Insolvency company appointed. Personally I would not relish contacting D.J. at this time, but my C.C. company have asked I try to do this before they open up a case for a refund under section 75. I feel my question is highly relevant at this point, and an answer may help many of us that will be seeking a similar refund. The why and wherefore of I.P. etc etc will surelly unfold at a later stage of the insolvency investigation. Here and now there will be people, fellow modellers, seeking a refund of deposits paid. I think helping each other wherever we can would be the best thing for many at this stage.
