  1. Today was about repairing damage caused a year ago. The station's canopy has come loose. Some glazing panels have gone missing completely, most others have dislodged from the roof construction. Today, I have reattached the glazing panels. 14 out of a total of 24 are back in place. The others are missing and need to be rebuilt; I hope to rebuild 7 panels tomorrow.
  2. Hi all, I have been spending quite some time, on and off, on a layout and I think it's about time I told the world. The layout consist of three boards measuring 40x90cm (as Google tells me, 15 inches by 3 feet). It's designed to fit in an all-British modular railway. As such, the track plan is very dull, just a pair of tracks running along the boards. A set of points are included, just to learn about points, point motors, DCC buses, and so on. Quite some time is spent on the buildings on the layout, such as the tunnels shown above. I am going through the layout bit by bit to paint the tracks, do the ballasting and so on. The other two boards include a London Underground station large enough so that 6-car trains can halt there. It is all based on the oldest sub-surface lines (which are very close to the surface, rather than the deep-level tube lines) and stations such as Baker Street, Praed Street and Notting Hill Gate. I don't have the best pictures available to me now, but should get around to uploading some in the next few days.
  3. As the Bo Bo trundles along it reaches a tunnel. We're now on the section that actually has scenery. The tunnel is rather generic, but the layout has taken inspiration from London. This becomes clear as the train pulls into the unnamed station: The station is based on the old Underground stations of Baker Street, Notting Hill Gate and Paddington. The end of the platform also marks the end of the layout. The tunnel and station sit on modules that are easily transported to club meeting and events, where many more modules are linked together and form a much longer layout. That's also why the tunnel can handle full sized trains, and is most likely a bit bigger than the actual Underground tunnels.
  4. An Ivatt 2MT pulling into the goods sidings, only to reverse into the Inglenook sidings. While shunting, it pulls into what will once be the passenger station. In my mind, it will draw inspiration from Didcot's transfer shed and have a name with a silly pun... The Metropolitan Railways Bo Bo meanwhile, is a big hint for the other half of the layout. Here it is, passing the Inglenook sidings.
  5. After lurking here for too long and tinkering on my model railway in secret, its about time to post here so all of you can have a laugh at my expense . The layout has found a home in the storeroom, which is also home to two bicycles and all the stuff our house is too small for... Speaking of houses, we are hoping to move in about a year. As I don't know if the layout will fit I guess its best not to spend too much time building scenery.

So nice to see another Isle of Wight modeller! I am building a 00 layout based around Ventnor. I agree that the station building can get in the way very easily, so I've turned the plan around so that the viewer is sat on top of St. Boniface down, looking over the yard towards the station. Of course, I am happy to see you model a different bit but in the same sort of time frame. I will be following you!
  7. Quick question: how does your o2 like pulling that rake of coaches? Mine struggles with anything more than 2 58' Maunsell Hornby coaches... Meanwhile the signal box looks good! Can't wait to see the layout to match!
  8. Ventnor Town. But rather than hijack this thread, I will soon make one of my own!
  9. Hello Nick! As a fellow Isle of Wight modeller I am keen on watching your layout progress. I am currently at a similar point in building a layout of Ventnor station.
