  1. I am progressing slowly with the station, just dropped the new sections of platform in to see how it fits, ballast needs shifting before final fit, now adding lights and wiring will be progressing this week for that. Looking at photographs, I have built the red brick rectangular walls at the base of the water cranes and can't remember what was in them, I have a vague recollection that there was a drain in there and I think some valve work for the water supply, or am I mixing it up with something else?
  2. 50 years as an engineer made me think those size bolts would be a bit light weight, no criticism, just an observation based on years of experience, not in model making though.
  3. 2BA and 4Ba screws are a bit light weight aren't they?
  4. You'll have to get a tripod Andy, feeling a bit seas sick now lol, shows your layout off well.
  5. I expect to see the "rozzers" turn up soon to shift those hippies from the field though lol.
  6. I never saw the "Wolf", before my time on the ECML, the front looks a bit too American for my liking, the B1 is much more to my taste.
  7. Gilbert is the "new" colour fixed or is the pastel sticking nicely as is?
  8. It must be 50 years since I worked with balsa wood, apart from making a few fishing floats, what a nice material to work with, I might use it a whole lot more, I now have a heap of old manky Hornby platorms to shift.
  9. The platform re-build begins It will need some more cross bracing, but I've used up the balsa, any advice about the finishes would be appreciated, plan is brick on the sides and the top should be slabs for he third that is under cover, then the rest was tarmac. I tried sticking sand paper on the previous incarnation and I don't like it, so I thought I might try paint, sprinkled with fine "N gauge" ash granules?
  10. Another new layout to me, some excellent work done, Aberdeen looks very different today now.
  11. Leicestershire was criss-crossed with railways in the 1950's I can remember quite a few journeys, but sadly few on the GC as Blaby station was nearer to my home, I often used to travel home from school from Wigston on a steam hauled train, not a very exciting model layout though.
  12. I'm not too happy with the bay platforms, modified Hornby stuff, I was down at the model shop near Dundee and a member of their modelling club put me right. Left the shop with a heap of balsa wood, so I'll scratch build new ones, all advice welcomed before I start.
  13. Another thread I have only just found and had an enjoyable read going through it, some fine work done. I am about to build my station canopy, so I am watching your build with great interest.
  14. Thanks Apollo, my first go at scratch building bridges.
  15. This one doesn't look quite right, so will need modifying
  16. Whilst waiting for parts to continue with the station, I made a start on the "countryside" area that was at the back of my parents place where I grew up, just north of Whestone station, I've begun with a low profile pedestrian bridge that will have a scenic screen to break the bend and fiddle yard from the area. This is not complete, will need weathering and will be fitted once the grass has been fixed on the cutting banks.
  17. Only just found this topic, great work been done.
  18. If I hadn't moved I would have paid a visit, Scotland is a lot further than Barton Under Needwood.
  19. I might end up compromising on the canopies, but I will try making a section and see how it turns out, the Metcalfe isn't bad, but I'd need around 24 of them at £14 a pop, expensive was my first thought for something that is a compromise.
  20. Thanks gents, I have two others to build, one a 13 arch viaduct, so I'll practice on these 2 first. I doubt I'll be buying a 3D printer though.
  21. Whilst waiting for bits for the station, I've started building a couple of overbridges for the scenic "countryside", anyone got any tips? One is a pedestrian narrow one and the other was wide enough for the farmer to get his tractor over and was tarmacked, both in blue brick of course.
  22. I travel from Arbroath on the train now and then, would loved to have visited in the days of steam, the ECML had some wonderful locos on it. Edit, I note the Round Britain is scheduled to come through the town in 2018, so I will pop down there with my camera.
  23. Ya see you're all running the wrong railroad, the GC had visitors from all over the 'ockey............................................
  24. Thanks, Fox do indeed supply the two etched headboards I require(South Yorkshireman and The Master Cutler)
  25. Can I ask where you get the shed plates and train head boards made please?
