TESTING BEFORE EXHIBITING!
With the Ruddington Exhibition nearing, 30th June / 1st July 2018, I thought it wise to give the layout a track clean and test run... The following is the first of six videos taken today while testing.

I like all of the photos, but the Class 150 DMU picture is my favourite

Recently we have been using UHU (from a pound shop) to glue down track. It is applied to the board and the bottom of the sleepers and left for a few minutes, the track is then stuck down and if it's not quite aligned it can be corrected before weighting it down. It works a lot quicker than PVA and we now lay all of our track this way!
I hope this helps,

The pencils I use are Caran d'Ache water soluble artists pencils, I have had them years now and they cost a bit when i got them. I use them because it's what I already have and, as well as occasionally using them for brickwork, I have also used them for other jobs such as adding graffiti to a wall or tyre marks on a road with good results.
Tyre marks on the 'hard-standing test board' I made

Here is another photo of the legs...
The legs are 34 inches tall, which gives a better viewing height!

NEWS
Yesterday Andy York visited us to photograph some of our layouts for appearances in BRM. He photographed my layouts "Annesley Woodhouse" and "Jubilee Road", Shaun's "Ripley" and our group (M.R.P.G) project "Depot Lane"
It was a very enjoyable day and if the sample images we have already received are anything to go by, the photos will be amazing!
Thanks to Shaun for letting us turn his house into an exhibition hall for the day
Cheers

Here is a quick snap I grabbed while the layout was folded up. I still need to bolt on the leg stays then I'll get a photo of the layout upright.

LEGS
I have been fitting legs to the layout, and my other layout Jubilee Road Wagon Works, to replace the trestles I currently use. Photos to follow when the legs are complete - Going to work is getting in the way of layout progress again!

LEGS
After a few exhibition appearances, I realized that using trestles to sit the layout on isn't ideal!
The layout is only 15.5 inches wide and the trestles are nearer 2 feet wide meaning they stick out of the front slightly and encroach upon the operating area. I have spent most of today building legs for the layout (with the help of Shaun) and just need to fit some bracing pieces
Not using trestles will mean the legs are flush with the baseboards and if a curtain is fitted it will look a lot smarter. No photos yet, but hopefully will take some when the legs are completed.
Cheers

I've just been reading through your layout thread again. Great work and inspirational!
Got me thinking it's about time I built another small WRD layout. It's been 3 years since Tees Yard WRD.
You deffo need to do another WRD, Tees Yard was awesome!

Well done to Ian and the team at Mansfield for still putting on the show when many would have cancelled it (btw the bacon cobs were superb!)
Thank you for inviting Annesley Woodhouse to the show and many thanks to the public for voting it "Best in Show". We were also glad we could help by bringing our group layout, Depot Lane, today.

IT WORKED! - ALL DAY!
We had a far better day today, Annesley Woodhouse ran faultlessly all day and all problems were down to 'operator error' (yes, including me!)
Thanks to everyone that chatted to us and we will see more of you tomorrow

SEE ANNESLEY WOODHOUSE AT MANSFIELD SHOW THIS WEEKEND
Earlier this evening, Shaun and I went to the venue to set up Annesley Woodhouse for the exhibition.
Not the start to the week we were hoping for...
...after setting up the layout, it appeared that several wires had pulled out of the connections. Points were only working on one board and signals were either not working correctly or not working at all!
Not the best day to forget to take your toolbox either!
Thanks to Ian for the loan of his soldering iron and to Shaun for having better eyesight than me and sorting out the wires!
At least when we left the venue, everything was working as it should be ready for tomorrow
Cheers

Simon,
You will be pleased to know that Snowball has been found, and is still ok after a night in the hoover bag.
Cheers Shaun, does she look weathered now though? 🤣
