Thanks for your reply Dave. I too understand what you are saying but your previous post can be read as apportioning blame even if there was no intent (I do believe you when you say there wasn't)
That was my point really but it's been negated by your reply anyway so thanks for the clarification.

If anything Dave you have badly managed your customer expectations. Initially you did promise models very quickly and let things slip. You have also repeatedly pushed crowdfunding deadlines back. I'm sure you have very valid reasons which are none of our business but at the same time you have to accept some responsibility for the situation and potential customers nervousness.
Even by your own game plan it's not what was originally promised. The shark and mermaid were not on your initial list were they? From what I recall sales of the J94 were to fund the other scales. You say you've explained the game plan again and again but there's some truth is saying you've changed your game plan again and again. If your customers are saying they are confused then that buck stops firmly at your door
Sorry to be a bit blunt but you surely realise customer confidence is less than ideal and telling you it's all fine and dandy isn't helpful.
Saying put your house up and do better isn't constructive at all. You chose to do this to make money. Sure you seen like a nice genuine bloke and market forces that no one could have predicted have necessitated some flexibility and I doubt anyone expected your plan to run to the letter but your post does seem like you are trying to blame your customers for believing expectations that only came from one source.

I would hope so. Imaginary solid splashers would be properly mad. Any chance you can take a dead side on view andy with the centre point the bottom of the underframe? It looks from your pictures that the actual wheel treads are above the bottom of the floor? Is the 'compromise necessary because the wheels are too big anyway? (Wasn't that a problem with the GWR 0 4 2 as well from the same stable?)A couple of shots to show that there is actually a recess for the rear wheels beneath the firebox/cab which indicates the factory designed a form of recess in for the wheel/flange clearance.
-
Of the two, anyone wishing to perfect it, will probably be easier to cut the splashers off than reduce the height of the Heljan one.
Then what? I presume the splashers are there because of clearances. It's easy to say cut them off but then? Leave holes with potentially visible wheel edges or fill them in and apply the brakes? Just cutting them off is the easy bit but the 'perfect it' bit is a little bit more than that isn't it?

whereas the Kernow version would appear to be correctly detailed for each running number
Except it's incorrectly detailed for every running number isn't it?
-
I would imagine the society members that go to both is much higher than those who only go to one. It might be the case that combining the 2 doesn't affect the numbers at all.
-
Well, they were clearly not looking hard enough to find the good stuff on this forum.
Obviously

Not really discussed P. More look at the MRJ threads if you need a reason to not bother
(I must add, exposure to those threads myself meant I was only a lurker for several years, it's much better since I actually signed up properly and have the new posts button )
-
Tried that, if you recall. The great and the good decided it impinged on their google rankings, and moved the "less serious" thread to "Wheeltappers" - where absolutely nobody would ever think of going to discuss MRJ in any capacity.
More like non members couldn't see it. The MRJ threads on rmweb cropped up quite regularily in other places as examples of why rmweb was seen as so awful.

Add in, while the trussing catches the eye, the sides look far too low relief as well.
-
Nah - trusses definitely not correct - the gap between the bottom of the vee-hanger and the bottom truss member is simply far, far, too large - and the vee hanger looks long enough (about twice the distance the VB cylinder hangs down below solebar level - so the truss depth must be too large and the whole underframe looks wrong because of it
And I do WANT to be proved wrong ............. but don't think I am
Its definately quite a bit off. Kernow would be better to acowlege the error than try to convince postential customers they are wrong. It's a bit too big for my interests but given the availability of a decent kit in the same scale it would be a none starter for me I'm afraid.
If this isn't the Dapol one and has been produced by someone else then I would urge Dapol to carry on with theirs anyway.

Apparently I plough a lonely furrow, being of the opinion Independence Day is a big budget turkey.
The dialogue is cringeworthy and the scenes are beyond belief, but my biggest problem is the absolute plot rip off of War of the Worlds. Done bad.
C6T.
The second one makes the original look like a masterpiece though! On the subject of recent sci-fi Skyline was particularly dreadfull. I didn't rate the 2 new alien films much either.

Completely confused. We all know but it's not what I took it to mean? So was I right despite you claiming you emphatically didn't mean that? (But you seem happy to extrapolate what I said into something I didn't mean at all. That's your perogative to do so I guess)We all know what an armchair warrior is.It needs no further explanation from me.
I guess we don't all know what an armchair warrior is then.
-
I just replied to your post. I'm sorry that I didn't realise your posts require extensive research to understand what you are actually trying to say. Perhaps you might want to try being a little more to the point and stop talking in riddles? My thanks to Paul for explaining what I really meant.Maybe you should have read this topic thoroughly before posting.A read of The Engine Shed's latest report might also help.In this case you have jumped to the wrong conclusion big time ( and I did state that we were not just armchair warriors ) No I emphatically did not mean that
What you have done...intentionally or otherwise...is to devalue the opinion and expertise of arguably the finest living painter of model railway vehicles in this country ,the staff of the NRM and Hornby's own R&D team. You have also succeeded in maligning Bachmann's own team who are equally professional in making an unsubstantiated assertion, going off topic and scoring two for the price of one.Well done !
So what exactly did your armchair warriors comment mean then? You still haven't actually said.
-
Explain further...if you please...
Not sure there's much further to explain. Bachmann ended up releasing a model that was the wrong colour because a forum expert gave them information that was wrong. Said person had plenty of modelling to demonstrate that he wasn't, to use your term, an armchair warrior.
I took your use of that term to mean someone with loads and loads of posts but very little modelling to show. Was that what you meant?
-
O
Ah but read the bit that talks of consultation with a "leading figure in the field of model and locomotive painting ". We're not all armchair warriors you know...
That's no guarantee of anything though. Bachmann listened to a forum expert on their class 37 years ago and got badly stung. Said expert used to post plenty of actual great modelling so definately wasn't an 'armchair warrior' with a high post count.

It's ironic that you think 'Scalefour types' are narrow minded...
Where's my tin hat?
Or you could say focused
-
I don't know what would be worse for the scalefour types? That horsetans stuff is foreign or that it seems to just be ready to run taken from a box. Not sure either would interest that sort of audience really

There was an article on mark 2 Ford transits in rail express a few years ago. Can't remember the issue number I'm afraid.
-
Anything can haul a 4TC as though it were a semi-permanent rake of four coaches. Might need some extension air pipes though.
Not sure a class 24 would get on well with them.
-
So it's 2mm finescale then?
-
Sorry if I have missed this but what is N2?

This was the person that admonished me for posting some of my own snaps of Pendon. Sadly the world is inhabited by a few "don't you know who l am?" individuals.
It's somewhat comical when the don't you know who I am types hide behind an alias. When that person says who they are and most people are still thinking, who, never heard of you mate? it's hilarious!

I think all had them, some had them removed would be more accurrate.

So how do you address people not going to a show if they never even discussed it? If there was a discussion and an informed choice was made then that's useful. If it wad never on the radar then it's a bit useless.
There's an ubderlying anti s4 bias in your posts John and I think there might be an element of remembering the negatives and disregarding the positives. If your bias has spread to your group then your small data information is somewhat worthless. It's like asking 100 people if they think the prime minister is doing a good job is one thing. If you ask 100 people who are at the Labour Party conference then your data is flawed.
I mean there was at least one incomplete layout at expo-em north a week or 2 before. Did you make a fuss about that?
Who are these s4 modellers who derided em? Is your comment deliberately vague. It might get you incensed but if all things were the same but the em layouts you were asscociated with were s4 instead they would have been better. The track and, if you had them, larger steam locos would have looked better. No point saying it wouldn't.
Finally there's little point you banging on about poor running at the show if you never even bothered going is there? What do you gain from basing your point on heresay and rumour?
