Many - but in railway terms, all pre-BR buggeration, and preferably pre-Grouping...! GWR primarily, but shades of LNWR/Midland/LMS. (I'm modelling a GWR/LNWR - LMS Joint' line.). Ideally, model railways represent a real place at a specific period. The location has to fit the space available - tricky - but the period...? So much choice.... :-). 1890's - to about 1920 is my favourite.

  1. Whatever else this damned pox has brought to us, it has been a sobering reminder of what sensible traffic levels on the roads are like, as well as the manifest benefits of lower air pollution.

Several years ago, I was running a BMW, a VW Polo, and a 1934 Austin. I always drove pretty much the same, but interestingly.....in the Polo - I was universally ignored - my preferred reaction. In the BMW, I was often gesticulated at for no apparent reason, and in my pre-war Austin, everyone wanted to be my friend. On the Motorway - lorries would often hoot. Strangers at traffic lights would wind-down their windows and start a conversation - and everyone would let me out at junctions - where in the BM' I'd be cut dead. What strange animals we are....! I also never got stopped by the Feds in the old Austin, for which no Tax or MOT was required, and the insurance was pennies. I wish I still had it...!
