  1. Thanks for reply Gordon, where would I look for said info.I have tried a couple of searches but no luck, ended up on the 125 group. Commoner, if you ever get time please post up some more photos. Thanks all PS Am I understanding Depot allocations correctly?
  2. Right ok. Thanks for all info received in helping to me understand some aspects. Thanks for the photos. They are the type of things I like to see and replicate instead of out of the box. Each loco, or set in this instance, had its minor differences.Photos showing only parts of numbers, numbers under front cowl or not, black/white, left or right all make it different from the other one and they actually show what British Rail was putting out at a given time, not all polished, not all pristine. I have gone through the same thing with Class 50s and of the same time frame of which Flood had provided some very useful info, but basically it wasnt the year with them as to which month it was of which I believe this could be the same and that is fair enough, basically find a photo, date it, there you go. The formations I originally supplied where based upon this, Born in 68, im 56, 2 weeks a year spent at Dawlish up until I was in my teens=50s/45s/25s/newpapers vans/carflats/semaphore signals and HSTs. I also know the Paignton/Goodrington sands stabling point with the water hoses and such=my choice for selecting, as I believe these units to be based/allocated to Laira. I have 8 sets of power cars and assoicated carriages and as standard are duplicated, so hence the renumbering and also majority is prefixed. The reason for asking about prefix is that P5 and RCTS does not show this and getting dated photos are hard to come by with side on views, not just pwer cars but coaching stock, also many photos that I have seen the power cars do not seem to show prefixes. All the Hornby power cars I have are prefixed W with one exception being E.The coaching stock is also a mix with 90% showing prefixes. I think this puts many that Hornby have produced in Blue/Grey as pre 1980 or am I wrong. This maybe my OCD kicking in here but I would rather get it right than wrong. Furthermore I started to look at the differences between P5 1986 and RCTS 1982 and could see formations moving allocations and the changes with the Buffets so I thought Id go back further to RCTS 1980. What a mistake. I will post back my findings when completed. Thanks for all replies and if I had the time I would come back to all individual as each one still raises a question for me. Flood=Thanks for the TRUB/TRUK/TRSB 3 and 4 window but I still feel I have further questions Commoner=Great photos-Leaning out window-good days-mixed unit Davexoc=This is the question Wickham green=nice photo Rivercider=Thanks photos again Hexagon=thanks for pointing others for clarification Peter=might draw it back to a date but not going there Keefer=yes-and then adding xx200s and 400s Regards
  3. Many thanks to all.I have only just picked this up so notifications is probably off somewhere. Good info and pics. Will get a good look and digest this tomorrow. Will return and questions to all. Like I said minefield, to me anyway. Thanks Rob
  4. Evening It would appear that I have walked into a minefield with HST numbers. I am struggling to find when BR stopped using prefixes. Also I have seen photos of black and white power car numbers. The sets are LA depot allocated and my year is 1986 with 1985 at a push. I want to number the following sets, 43163----41147/40401/42254/42258/42262/42266/4400----43164 43165----41148/40402/42270/42274/42278/42282/44062----43166 43185----41166/40431/42306/42307/42308/42309/44088----43186 43189----41168/40433/42314/43215/42316/42317/44090----43190 43191----41169/40434/40434/42318/42319/43320/42321----43192 My usual goto for photo reference would be Paul Bartlett or Martin Loader. Unfortunately, Paul has few that I can find and Martin has many but at a later period. Coaches are as much as is but with the prefix question.Photos of the actual power units would be great. I understand that that a livery transition was happening in 1986 with exec livery. The above units are all B/G as far as my P5 book tells me. Apologies if this has been covered somewhere previous, if so please guide me in that direction.Any help is definitely much appreciated. Also on a side note, the obvious external differences- TRSB-4 Window TRUK-3 Window Where would a TRB fit in, as I beleive 40401 and 40402 are TRB PS if this post does not belong here, please move. Regards Rob
  5. Interesting for 50 001 Gets 2 sizes. As for the bloody big numbers down the side agreed, cant be arsed to walk down the side,I don`t know. Thanks all for resolving this.
  6. Thanks for replies. I would like to go with the first suggestion some kind of quick identifier whilst in works though not for a paint job as I have photos later still in same condition and one with the number just about visible/fading. Having said that I do like the suggestion offered by rugd1022. I deduce that this is a confession. As pointed out by Davexoc they all appear to be done by the same hand. Why move onto the headcode box? I also deduce that your initials are F.T You have already admitted doing this at OOC.Also you have photos relating to the South West in your link so could be at Laira, nice photos of the box at Dawlish by the way, do you have any of the box at the Warren.I know the blue brick base is still there. Anyway please come clean, there are no repercussions,Hahahaha A bit of fun. Thanks again
  7. Hi Can anyone shed any light on the reason for the crudely painted numbers and markings on the front of the cabs on the following photos They were photographed between March and August 1983 50 020 @ No.2 End Cab Also has an F & T above Receptacles 50 022 @ No.2 End Headcode Box 50 028 @ No.1 End Cab 50 029 @ No.2 End Cab The photos are reproduced with kind permission from Martin Loader http://www.hondawanderer.com Many thanks
  8. Many thanks for the reply will head over there and have a dig through.I can find many good photos of 50s but always at the wrong angle. Regards
  9. Hi I am presently in the process of renumbering a Hornby Class 50 011 Centurion to 50 013 Agincourt. This has now thrown up some questions as to whether the original 50 011 or any other number was in the correct position to start with Is there a set pattern as to where numbers started and ended. For instance I believe 50 011 to be the shortest number in regards to spacing if you see what I am getting at. It seems that on one side the 50 starts in line or slightly forward of the first edge of the old window and runs on and on the other side its the last digit that runs in line or slightly over the old window and runs forward. Also another quick one. Where all numbers of the same measurements? As in there thickness. As Ajax seems to carry numbers that seem slightly fatter. I would appreciate any help or info in this matter or is it going to be a case of photographic evidence. If that is the case help then needed in finding some good side on shots! Many Thanks Rob
  10. Hi Right i don't know if im dragging all this up again as this post was made some years ago but the title caught my eye.I know of several other posts about class 50 pcbs and there associated dcc problems but i am none the wiser. I have several class 50s all giving me the same issue. That is with the directional lighting. When running in one direction the white light illuminates and the red leds at the reverse end light, correct. When power is reversed to run in the opposite direction the high intensity light lights and the red leds at the opposite end light but also with either a flickering white light or dull white light moving to bright when slowed. I have used the same test chassis for these pcbs which has clean wheels.Track is also clean and all connections to bogie pick ups and board are fine. The test track is twin parallel lines of about 3 mtrs with cross over points at either end as i have no layout at present. The question is am i missing something simple?Or is it a problem with one part of the board that can be repaired. This is really starting to get to me and i am getting confused now reading all different posts even to the rebuilding of pcbs (although that was for a different purpose) to the fact that i have now ordered a class 56 pcb which i know will come with its own issues having looked inside hornbys latest leviathan last night one of those issues will be that the class 50 has 4 wires to the connector and the 56 only having 3 so that will be another question where does the fourth wire go on the 56 board? Just as a by product of this investigation into leviathan Hornby have made several internal changes notably the pcb has been raised and what appears to be a heat shield between motor and pcb also the roof marker lights have been hard wired(this is a bonus) and also no roof fan or accommodation to run one as the brass drives at the ends of the motor have now changed(view photos) I will have to post rest of pictures in another post. Anyway any help is appreciated.Thank you
  11. Sorry Although the title sounded correct i think i have posted in the wrong section.Could somebody please move me to help! Thank you
  12. Could do with reducing the size of these photos as i cant upload the rest!

  14. Late 1980 seems to be the starting date for the large logo transformation in any guise although it seems rail blue can push into 83.At a push i am going for 85-86 obviously Monarch does not fit but having bought this ,its in there.Only another 43 to go? Yes the next 7 are in progress,Achilles,Agincourt,Dauntless,Superb,Neptune,Temeraire and Eagle .That leaves another 14 that i have after that.I do have a problem with Hercules for this date range also. Anyway i would say more of a friend. My areas to work on as regards to finer weathering would be the wheel sets and bogies, far to clean for me and also the ETH/Jumper connectors, too red.
  15. Hello all Just thought I would post up some pictures of why I was asking previous questions. These are my locos but cant take credit for the work. A few finer details needed and might not be everybody's cup of tea but how I remember them.
  16. Thanks For all who posted Ive been away for a while and will have to digest information and these photos. I will repost by the end of the week with some pictures regarding buffers and roof colours with date. Thanks again much appreciated Regards Rob
  17. Yes agreed But is it correct that the black roof variant did not appear until 1985. Also did any other members carry an all blue roof other than monarch and were buffer faces painted. Regards
  18. Hello Hope i'm in the right area here sure ill be redirected if not. And if it has been discussed before please forward me to the appropriate place. I'm modelling various class 50 locos at present and trying to fit all large logo liveries into a certain time.In order to use all RTR models made by Hornby it appears that this would be 1985. Anything previous to this would just be blue with grey roof. Unfortunately as far as I can see Hornby never produced one in this livery every grey roof variant has an orange roof lining. Then comes the blue with black roof again with orange lining. After study of many photos I now see blue with black roofs and no lining, some that appear to be blue all over(although I only thought this to be on Monarch). Also did buffers get painted out in Red.Did buffers get painted out in Silver on some Locos. From what I see black roof usually went with red buffer beam and grey roof with black although I have a photo showing grey roof with red buffer beam. This is becoming a mine field now. Can anybody point me in the direction of the class 50 guru that could help me with individual loco liveries in 1985,well to be quite honest the whole 50. Thanks in anticipation Rob
  19. Thanks for the reply Ian Yes that helps That eliminates the american one. I will have a look at the LMS. You mention wrong length, has anyone done a conversion or adapted one of these coaches? Thanks
  20. Hi Not sure if this is the right place but here goes. I have acquired a couple of these coaches but have no idea as to the type that they are based on. Sure this may have been asked or covered on the forum before but cannot find anything especially regarding the second photo. Could anybody enlighten me or point me in the direction of further info. Greatly appreciated Rob
  21. Thanks for the reply Very interesting as the american bogie would work to mix things up. I have six lima siphons to bring up to scratch. All will be based around late 70s newspaper traffic br blue.Maybe ETH.As what i remember going pass the warren as a kid. I am looking at w1325 as one. This one has nearly all sides plated over bar end grilles at both ends but is running on 9` pressed steel.I will have a quick look at p.bartletts photos and see what throws up there.I have seen the one posted on here at bodmin and that is of interest for me too. So i would still like to obtain the Bachmann ones. Thanks Again Thanks again
  22. Have you a product code for these, as i can find all manner of bogies from Bachmann but not these. Are they collett ones as they look slightly different? Thanks
  23. Sorry back again I have been looking for brass etched lamp brackets for the SR/BR CCT/PMV but cannot find anything.Does anyone have a reference/idea to a producer/supplier? Thanks
