  1. In my view, Rapido have dramatically raised the bar with their rendition of the teak effect livery on the Dynamometer car. All the Hornby LNER carriage offerings in teak livery are now a very poor comparison. Reissuing LNER carriages using a similar printing technique as adopted by Rapido must be possible and would utilise existing mouldings, so hopefully a fairly modest investment and possible for 2019? I feel sure that these would be big sellers within the modelling fraternity. The only downside from Hornby’s perspective would be that it would be even more difficult for retailers to sell the older versions without heavy discounting.

The roof at the rear of the autocar look decidedly different - is this a dateable modification? Being a novice at such things, I would be interested to know details of the coach behind the autocar.
  3. If Rapido and Rails were releasing the Dynamometer car with lining then I suspect that we would still be having a discussion of the point, but from the reverse viewpoint. Such is the nature of modellers, modelling and the difficulty of verifying issues from a distant black and white past. Either way, I think both models look fantastic and I’m very happy with my order for the 1948 version. If the pictures are accurate, we are very lucky to have such a detailed, well put-together model - lined or not.
  4. Like a few others, I am mulling over which version(s) to buy and may need to do a little work once they eventually arrive (although commissioning TMC might be an option!). I am modelling the period 1948-50 (NE region), which gives scope for various liveries etc. Would G5s at Nationalisation be in LNER lined black, green, or still in wartime unlined black (with the NE logo) or a mix? It’s not that obvious from contemporary photos.
  5. Thankfully, none as the Customs Duty Rate is nil - in principle, import tariffs currently apply anyway as they are imported from China. Either way, I will definitely be ordering one - and possibly two.
