Mmmm... Then they should be watching the UK where the majority of the 15m+ that have had the AZ vaccine are over 65 and see how we get on... I genuinely hope it's not as a result of sour grapes, though, that would be unacceptable.

Did cross my mind it’s possibly just a distraction tactic from the low supply whilst AZ etc scale up production

Reading the previous few pages  anit-vaccination misinformation in the UK seems to be blamed on BAME ( I guess thats some racial group /cultural reference?) and loonies - here the chief opposition is from the main stream churches.

Both the Catholic and C of E have joined forces to attempt to stop the use of AZ in favour of the Pfizer/Modena versions, and are threatening to delay the rollout. This isn't just some fringe evangelical part of the churches but the Archbishops of Melbourne and Sydney of both major faiths.

I don't know the Archbishop of Canterbury or the Popes view on the AZ vaccine is, maybe the  less pressing COVID situation here in Australia gives the church the luxury of venting their viewpoints.

  5. Going back to the entry fees debate I tend to look at it the other way, I am happy to pay in the region of £5-£7 per hour of “normal” entertainment which tallies with the local cinema, what I would spend in a pub, non member swimming at the local pool/lake etc etc.

I do feel the local shows pre-COVID undercharged slightly for their offering but I am generally attending on my own....

  6. Funnily enough ones of ours was called Mr Wheeker (the wife took too long to name him and his nickname stuck). He used to like mountaineering up across the sacks of hay and bookcases.

regarding the noise level he had an injection at one point and when we came out the consultation room the entire waiting room was looking to see what could have made such a loud noise....

  7. In my working environment it lead to a healthy considered discussion on how to complete jobs, ensured everyone left with the same number of limbs they arrived with and contractors taking care of their impact on our team as well as their own when completing maintenance.

I think it works well overall but like anything in life it is an average with extreme attitudes and policy’s both ways....the health and safety manager that started demanding to see msds sheets for bic biros at a volunteer organisation where almost everyone bought their own pens being my favourite ....

  8. Frankly I think the only way Monaco could be improved is with a diverging route so instead of the harbour chicane you have the option to go straight, to the right of the tree line and rejoin further down. There is a S bend two thirds of the way down so it’s either chicane and long straight or medium straight, chicane and short straight.

it would allow different chassis and drivers to play to their strengths, and possibly liven up the procession (especially if you designate a minimum number of times the divergence has to be taken)....not one for the purists though...:senile:

  9. Has anyone seen anything about where the rest of the vaccines the uk have on order will be used? I ask because we appear to have 360 million doses on order vs a population of 65 million-ish. Even at two initial doses and a later booster that leaves a large surplus does it not?

(I also doubt the “no-profit” will be sustained once the initial roll out is over and it takes a more normal approach, akin to the annual flu jab)

  10. Not to mention the reports in the press this week that AZ were not the first in line to produce the oxford vaccine. That was due to be made by an American company Merck, but the uk government blocked it to prevent a certain Presidant taking an America first stance....

None of the Dutch shippers accept this possibility but perhaps this is possible in a few countries. Catawiki also makes a very clear statement that returned items from outside the EU are double hit with VAT.

There is the equivalent procedure for businesses, and I would be amazed if there wasn’t the equivalent for consumers as the EU regulations are generally strong on enforcing consumer rights such as warranty’s, but I am not well versed in the fine workings of the Dutch import rules.

However when it doesn't work and the buyer ships it back then it is hit with VAT when arriving in the UK (+ a carrier fee) The third country fee is 0 for the UK. When the item is repaired and sent back the third country duty (+VAT + carrier fee) is added for the 3th time. There are NO exceptions for guarantee or repairs to  skip the customs and VAT!

This is one of the most important reasons (According to the guys in Brussels - Don't blame Me! ) why a distributor, importer or a selling hub should be setup within the EU to protect the rights of private buyers. I know that this is killing for all smaller suppliers in the UK that are depnding on Export.

Except of course in the Uk you can get import tax relief on items temporarily imported, particularly if they are for repair. They do need to be clearly marked as such on the accompanying paperwork and if an electronic carrier booking there is normally a field to indict this (with our main carrier you chose from Sale, repair or replacement, or gift when making the booking on their online system).

You do need to keep very clear records of the consignments coming in and going back out of the uk in case of an inspection.

I have also used the same routine for items sent back to Turkish factory’s for repair in the past.

The question is though will they split UK outline between the two warehouses or just ship UK outline to the UK and EU outline just to the EU? The former could be done, but probably needs firm orders from EU shops to do it (on UK shops on Hornby's international range). Otherwise its guess work on how many UK outline models they will sell in the EU and small numbers hanging around in NL for years on end is not a viable stock holding proposition.

Nah if they have any sense they bond the UK warehouse so they don’t pay import taxes on arrival, pick and pack all the EU orders in the UK (including the foreign courier label).
Then transfer in bulk to the EU subsidiary at cost price, so that the EU import taxes are calculated on cost price and then make the sales from the EU subsidiary to the EU customer....and the NL warehouse is just a cross dock operation for uk outline models....

  14. Thinking back when our area starting charging for garden waste around 20 years ago they had a big drive on giving out home compost bins and water-butts. I cannot remember if they were free or less than a tenner each, but were made of recycled plastic and very hard wearing.

As an air cadet we helped man the distribution points where they had around 6 articulated lorries of each, with them stacked inside each other, several, hundred to a trailer - they all went over the course of two days.

  15. We have grey for general waste, green for recycling, small green for food (unless a flat dweller who have a shared blue wheels bin) and brown for the chargeable garden waste.

Different to all the other districts in the county except the neighbouring one who we share contractors with...

Just fill in a customs form and post it in the usual way - EU countries are now simply the same as any other in the world. Tariffs are paid by the importer not the exporter.

This is true, but many retailers are loosing significant sums when customers don’t pay import charges because they were not  anticipated, and the goods are returned leaving the supplier with the carriage costs (potentially of two way travel) to settle with their contracted carrier.

(Even if terms and conditions allow the costs to be withheld in this situation it doesn’t always work out that way in reality).
