  1. Cool! Had I been born just over 40 years earlier I might have had one of those strapped to my aR@e instead of a Lynx..... In the spirit of the times I’ve been arguing with a Cambrian 6 ton crane but have also got the Roc out. Hats off to anyone who had to go to war in one of those. Where did you get the kitchen roll? Does Mrs Tbg know? P.S. Speed of a reply due to coincidence rather than stalking.....
  2. Just like to say that I found you via ANTB. Notwithstanding the difference in our modelling abilities (I accept mine are some what deficient in comparison, but it looks as if I’ll be working on it over the next month or so...), you seem to have encapsulated all my interests in one thread! I’m very much into the silver/ 20’s and 30’s era of aviation, so many interesting if a bit crap planes, tanks etc. I have two small areas on my layout for suitable models (once I get round to it). What’s happened to the Seafox? Should I start my Shark or crack on with the Roc? Thanks for filling an hour! But then I should have been modelling - bit of a dilemma really! Cheers, Mark
  3. Pedant alert. Actually it’s the Isles of Scilly cos they get quite upset in case they are thought of as the silly isles. I go there a couple of times a year because it’s quite nice and not very silly! No trains tho. As an old sea dog (aah haar), Kev’s harbour walls look OK to me, maybe a bit new but this is the 30’s when all this stuff was new....
  4. Hey, it’s been a while since I had to apologise for my poor eyesight and the confusion about Jill/Jenny. Still loafing tho...
  5. It’s been a while since I watched a whole episode, but I now know it’s been too long! Mrs P not so happy but then perhaps she doesn’t understand. Was Ivor’s snowplough scanned by Oxford by any chance?
  6. I guess they are only doing an 00 one as they are making an 0 gauge one anyway...? As already suggested there are thousands of Lima and the better running Hornby ones around. Better perhaps to make a double car or even better something else! We all have our wish list for new RTR (Aberdare anyone?!), but I'd be surprised to see an AEC railcard on one...
  7. PEDANT ALERT! An SE5 was a single seater so it might be a bit of a squash, albeit it had an in-line engine so was a lot more stable. As far as aerial photography is concerned, I’d have to check the new EASA rules in Part SPO and Part NCO as the old CAA definitions of Aerial Work have all been subtley altered. The low flying rules remain the same and are surprisingly generous for those not involved. Safety always comes first though! I know absolutely nothing about cameras but do appreciate the results of those more knowledgeable than me on this forum! Here to help!
  8. Sadly I’ve not flown a Spitfire, nor have I flown a Camel, but I have no doubt that the Squadron Leader would have had great difficulty photographing anything whilst flying and using a box brownie or similar. A camel in particular was allegedly as slippery as an oiled fish and the castor oil streaming from the rotary engine had a disastrous effect on the digestive system as well as the camera lens! At my outfit we have GoPros strapped to the struts on a Moth but the results can be variable and do not compare to anything that Kevin has achieved on here. The Squadron Leader should get an Avro 504 and take Kevin up! As for the great British Aircraft Industry, I spent a decade or two strapped to one of its products and my back and neck are now keeping my spinal consultant in the style to which he has become accustomed. If they couldn’t design a seat that was roughly the same shape as a human being then what chance had they against Johnny Foreigner? Now, back to the trains (a few steam driving experience days have put aviation in its place!)
  9. Aren’t we all taking this too seriously? IMHO all these reality shows have little to do with reality and all to do with the way the programme makers can seem to make any situation occur with the use of editing. We’ve all been told that the participants had a good time and that’s great, but overall it has very little to do with our hobby apart from the occasional background bits in part 1. On the plus side the modellers involved are not being portrayed as anything other than “normal”. After all, for this project they could have used anyone as the skills involved do not seem too railway orientated. I’m watching it because they have made an entertaining, slightly different, programme and not for any top tips for the layout.
  10. Having just seen AY’s interview at Bachmann I have decided to pre-order one. It isn’t really appropriate for the era I’m modelling but not only does Rule 1 apply, but this looks likes one of those models that will be a jewel in the crown of any collection. It seems that many new models produced today do not have long production runs for various reasons and I’m not fussed about the price (I’m hoping Bachmann won’t read this!).
  11. This is most edifying! I’ve checked Jill out on the modelu website and my apologies to the scanned lady in question...
  12. I’ll look closer on Modelu tomorrow, wouldn’t want to be thought to be a misogynist. She or he seems to be having a nice break from toil which is OK unless you are paying the wages.... perhaps I should look back in the thread to see who is in charge?
  13. P.S. Isn’t Jill a bloke? Mind you I haven’t painted her/him and haven’t looked too closely. Modelu figures are epic. M
  14. Hi Kevin, I’ve lurked, watched, read the whole thread, and would say that this inspirational, in as much as your layout gives us mere mortals something to aim at! Sadly things happen slowly around here but you have pushed me towards some progress soon! Cheers, Mark
