  1. Just to show it is possible to have trains move on this trainset here's a video...

I am useless with sparks so I won't try and offer any comments on that (sorry) but I just wanted to say I enjoyed the video and the closing credits made me laugh  Nice one - Pete

  2. Simon - I agree about the perspective not working...I am never really convinced by perspective back drops, but that's just me. I would try out some test sheets of colour perhaps first...perhaps a dark grey might be better than a white one.

You have modelled the arches so well...it just resembles a place I wouldn't want to get my car fixed...especially if they cut them in half and weld two back together ;)

  3. ¿Qué?

"I'm so sorry...he's from Barcelona" would be the appropriate response

The recent progress is great - I really admire the thinking through which has been done and well made baseboard construction will pay dividends long term. I reread your first posts again as I had forgot that there was a significant change in level either side of the incoming lines - its going to have a great 'train in the landscape' feel - look forward to see the next progess.

  4. Interesting concept this dual thread posting...last time I saw that was in RMWeb 3, with Kevin (aka SithLord) posting his N and 2mm stuff with interjections from his wife, until she decided to set up her own thread for her project...shame, as I miss that on RMWeb 4...but this seems to be a good replacement ;) :P

On the Easitrac, I found the latest 500mm straight lengths great to work with as I always struggled straightening the curved rail...for me, 120mm lengths are good for starter packs...but all those joints may prove vulnerable in exhibition conditions...I am recalling the heat on the second day of the 2FS expo courtesy of the BMS...just a thought...

  5. Steve - no worries...it reminded me to reread op's before asking dumb questions! Many thanks for the very detailed reply though - it sounds good what you are proposing and I think insitu also sounds good too. I found the tip from Trevor H, to include a few PCB strips in the mix around the common frog area for electrical + strength purposes to be very useful...but being ham fisted and not having 20-20 vision, I resorted back to all PCB for my last turnout

I must say the woodwork looks very well crafted (is that a requirement to join the Oxford group, as Mark and Missy also have that too!) and I really look forward to seeing the track getting laid - who knows, if you complete that by crimble, then Santa might deliver some locos for thorough testing purposes only ;)

  6. And now a message from our sponsor – use of the dining room for modelling purposes is by kind permission of SWMBO

Good progress Steve - look forward to see the track going down...presume you are going the easitrac route, turnouts included?

EDIT - Doh - reread the thread again and it answered my question...that's what comes from reading posts on the iPhone...the iPad would solve that one... ;)

  7. All good suggestions chaps. Currently mulling over what to do on the road front....

oops....sorry Dave...it wasn't meant as a criticism...it's just everything you have done so far looks cracking and pitched just right, that's why I questioned the road - Pete

  8. The other Stewart

(I've been asked to make sure that people can tell the difference between Stewart 45156 and Stewart 45157)

    The other Stewart

I find the Avatar images really useful for identifying people on the forum - why not consider one?

Pete (One of the many )

Stewart - Really nice work on the buildings and the treatment of the quayside is spot on.

  9. Dave - are the roads that steep or has the camera exagerated them a bit?

I think the building nestles in the space quite nice with the undergowth between the line and it - I like the fact that trains will momentarily disappear behind the building too to break up the frontage.

  10. Dave,

Congrats on pic of the week - in fact, it brought me to your layout, which I was very happy to discover and read as I am dabbling with 7mm things at present too

I assume all the track (not just the turnouts) is Peco bullhead?

The track plan looks neat and the scenic details to date are excellent - look forward to see some more.

    Pete

  11. The plot thickenned as of today...

Firstly, my copy of Wenford Bridge to Fowey arrived, which confirmed that I had the correct track plan and a few nice photos...

Secondly, with the kind help of Marc Smith, I have managed to locate and secure an unpainted Bachmann Brass 08 shunter...

Thirdly, I ordered the other items of rolling stock from Skytrex, namely a 12T vent van, a 20T BR Brake van and 3 china clay hoods...

All I need, is some track to 'test' them out on now...meanwhile, the credit card is still to hot to touch.

    Stay tuned...

  12. Well Swmbo has just read the posts!!!!

You've been rumbled Steve...In the same way, I too have to watch my Facebook posts since I added my wife as a friend...I made sure the mother-in-law friend request got rejected though ;)

The support structure looks great - really sturdy and as you say, room for some shelving perhaps. Glad you have a plan too for the 1200mm high option, although as you said, it's probably easier to do day to day work on the layout at the height it is now.

  13. so I guess Internet Explorer is well out of date

Stewart - Try Safari instead of IE - I tend to use it more these days on PC and Mac and I find that RMWeb responds to it better too.

Look forward to see some more images - Pete

  14. Posting all these 7mm ideas is very naughty of you. It takes my mind right off the 2mm work (play), that I should be focussing on, please stop it.

Apologies...I had been taking my prescription against all things 7mm...and then...the symptons reappeared...sweating, nervous excitement, surfing the Gauge O website...

These posts have also led to domestic complaints (from bluebell, and daisy) as they caused me to dig out the 7mm loco that I part built a few years back. I would respectfully request that you stop your endeavours in this area as they are getting me into trouble!

Ah-ha...so you have some dirty 7mm secrets too...it seems strange that people interested in 2mm Finescale would be attracted to this scale, missing out 4mm on the way...but the idea of doing something which is large in a small space is quite compelling...You could always build a 7mm shunting plank to fit within the centre space of your now continuous run - wouldn't bother your angry Farmer then :P

  15. Steve - nice work - I am going for 1200mm to track level (same as Kris of Avonwick) as it has been suggested that 2FS is better appreciated from a higher viewpoint due to its smaller scale - all down to personal choice of course though - the plywood legs as used by Mark and Missy is certainly a very neat solution.

  16. Nope, no excuse to omit details at all :)

Joking aside, I think that is one of the things that lets most 7mm layouts down - there's so much more scope for detailing in the larger scales, but oftern layouts have no more detail than they would in 4mm scale.

I look forward to seeing how you get on - and if you want any larger versions of specific photos, let me know - they are about 5MB each though!

    Martin - Thanks, will do.

I normally model in 2mmFS so this 'excursion' will be interesting, if not somewhat easier on my already shocking eyesight :D
