  1. Good news! I went to my LHS today and purchased some Peco code 83 metal rail joiners. Once home I removed the Unitrack rail joiner and replaced it with the Peco code 83 rail joiner. Then mated the Kato Unitrack to the Peco code 83 track. The rail profiles look identical and the metal joiners went on firmly. I ran my finger across the join and found it to be smooth. This means I can use Peco streamline code 83 turnouts instead of the more expensive Kato Unitrack turnouts, A big money saver!
  2. My thoughts on using the Peco points arose from reports that Atlas code 83 rail had a different profile to the Unitrack code 83 thus causing loose fitting rail joiners. I am hoping that the Peco rail profile matches that of the Unitrack so that rail joiners will be a tight fit.
  3. I wish to use HO Kato Unitrack for my new layout. I have seen comments that Kato number 4 points can be troublesome and to use number 6's. My thoughts are to use Peco code 83 streamline points instead, and yes I am aware that cork or other material would need to be used under the point to bring it up to the Kato track level. Has anyone else gone down this path, and what were your experiences?
  4. Hi all, can anyone tell me if Tonbridge West Yard by Paul Wade has appeared in any of the main railway modelling magazines? This layout is truly amazing, so much variety and colour. Thanks for the tip.
  5. Thanks Fat Controller for the tip on Tonbridge West Yard.I have accessed the photos thereof. The real yard is the one I was referring to regarding variety of vehicles and rollingstock. I have been buying wagons and hoppers in the Dutch livery from E-bay, eg. ZKA, ZBA, and YGB, for the layout. May I again thank you all for the information you are providing. This forum has been a gold mine for me.
  6. All very interesting indeed. From the photos I have seen no two trains had the same make-up, and the variety would suggest that a layout based solely on these operations would be a very interesting proposition. Especially as an exhibition layout. If anyone has already done this, could they please share layout photos here for us as a launching pad for further ideas.
  7. To Fluo66, those are great pictures of your previous layout. Such crisp and clearly focused shots. A refreshing change to most pictures on the internet. Kind regards, Barry.
  8. Thank you for the tip, rob D2. I was surprised to see so many yellow road vehicles in the photos, an interesting variety of trucks and vans. Would this indicate that this was a major facility, or was this usual for a works facility?
  9. Thank you all for your responses. I should explain that I live in Australia, so don't have any local knowledge of these things. You have given me a few leads to begin with so I will be pursuing these.
  10. Hi all, I am building a NSE model railway based on the early nineties and wish to include some Dutch livery engineers locos and rolling stock. What would be typical facilities and track design for an engineers depot?
  11. Hi all. I am trying to find out the why's and wherefores about SatLink Western. What motive power did they use? Typical train make-up? Did they mix with Dutch livery rolling stock? Likewise with Network Rail? I live in Australia and am finding info hard to come by. Thanks in anticipation, Barry.
  12. Hi all, this is my first post. I am building a model railway layout incorporating trams. Can anyone please tell me what the minimum radius is that the Cooee motorized Melbourne W class trams will negotiate. Glennofootscray mentions 9 inches but I am hoping for 8 inches ( or less).
