I think you are underestimating the journey time improvements that HS2 will bring. Taking Reading to Crewe it currently takes 2h45 via Birmingham. If the passenger went via OOC it would reduce the journey by an hour (Based on current Reading to Paddington @ 34mins and proposed HS2 Euston to Crewe @ 55 mins)
