I'm some way along building a layout , based loosely on a closed prototype, which has a level crossing and crossing keepers hut. The hut (Peco) has a couple of levers and a wheel to open the gates. I'm at the stage where it would be good to know how the hut was linked to the gates so that I can model this correctly. Was the linkage covered by timber boards, for example?
Any advice would be most welcome.

By coincidence I'm also building a layout based on Cranleigh, with a great deal of modeller's licence involved, i.e. the line didn't close and was electrified. In fact, so much licence has been used that I reverted to the pre-1870s spelling- Cranley. It's in its second iteration now. The difficulty I'm having is finding photos, or other details of the goods shed. I don't (yet) have the Middleton Press book, but from a library copy I don't think it was much help. If anyone can help with the goods shed issue, I'd be most grateful.
In the meantime, here's a couple of shots of the original layout and the work in progress.
