  1. I can now clarify why I didn't act on some of the info given around the time when this thread was started. I initiated it hoping that someone could make custom-designed boards. When it got re-kindled, It was actually looking for exhibition layout boards. I apologise for this confusion. To further re-clarify, I was looking for boards from 1' 6"+ in width.

  2. A cautionary note - I believe Peter Crawford to be the same person as JamesPetts and Ed Winterbury (and other aliases) with a record of asking numerous questions disregarding replies, not doing anything with information given and wasting contributors' time.

Aaaah that explains the replies on the now locked DJM thread.

    Thanks Andy.

You really would think he could find a better way of spending his leisure time. Quite sad really!

I definitely am not these individuals. Ed and I are good friends- perhaps so close that we do share some traits! But nothing to do with Mr Petts.

FACT: I ask a lot of questions.

    FICTION: I'm the same person.

I don't mind some 'mystery' like this but it is a myth.

Surely the only real “mystery” is why you enjoy wasting your and others time! :-)

Thank you for the clarification on James Petts; you must indeed be a good friend of Ed seemingly having used the same computer/location at times. :)

I've done a little more digging (based on something Ed was a PITA for) - why have you PM'd 10+ members for more details of layouts they have for sale or have sold asking for more information? Potentially you are wasting a lot of peoples' time which will ultimately mean that restrictions will be placed on your usage of the site.

This is the intrigue so far.

PITA is considered 'vulgar slang' by the Oxford English Dictionary https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/pita

I point out that I am not James Petts, a guy I've never heard of in my life. I live near (a couple of houses down the road from his place) Ed. I have asked for more info as a potential buyer. That's all. The same computer sounds really odd. It is very unlikely. I spend my free time enjoying the model railway hobby digitally and physically. I wish to apologise to anyone who actually thinks that I was a bit of an annoyance before Andrew York mentioned it. The same goes for people who feel so afterwards genuinely. I give you my sincere apologies.

I will now talk a bit about the people who I am somewhat uncomfortable with. These are people who have formed opinions based on hearsay. I don't mind Mr York making these statements as long as people don't form misguided opinions. After all, he does have rights under the Human Rights Act- the freedom of speech and expression. I also wish to enquire what 'line of enquiry' Mr York used. I admit to messaging numerous members regarding their layouts. This is only to see if they're something I want to buy. Caveat Emptor.

The DJM thread was locked. I don't understand why a member chose very deliberately single me out for some blame. No-one was to blame. The thread was getting a bit out of hand, but I cannot say that I created the problems. These are the kinds of comments that are incredibly unjust. I believe there's a word in the dictionary for it. I think it's called malice :) Only joking. Don't forget the 'show' element while reading this!

I perhaps don't take things too seriously when asking questions (can't pay for some boards whilst re-flooring the modelling space etc.)  but it didn't harm anyone...did it? My apologies to those who took offence at this.

All in all, I'm an ordinary person who wants a big layout while needing to manage without a colossal budget. That's why O doesn't form my main layout. I've figured out that I'm very much a 'runner' in case that helps.

  3. Because of my budget. A point costs £10, loco £100-ish and a coach will set you back £30 according to Hattons/Rails prices. Spending £400 on baseboards is simply out of the question. If I look at White Rose's 1050mm by 600mm boards, they are £68 each. I will use for these purposes a run of 5+3.5+2+2.5 m, which equals 13m or around 13 boards. That sets me back £884. I can't really afford that.

  4. The discussion did involve a couple of messages, you have had a number of recommendations, but have insisted that you want laser cut boards for "a couple of quid", which is obviously lunacy. It can't come as any surprise to you that some people will feel you're wasting their time with such unrealistic requirements.

I realise a couple of quid is lunacy, but I would like to write it as  Cost per sensibly-sized baseboard<£45. If that's a bit difficult to get, just list the cheapest.

  5. This is the last post I will be making on this thread about confused identities and eager questioning etc. I originally thought that this discussion would involve a couple of messages, but this is now becoming a bit lengthy- RMWeb has a reputation of digressing, but not to this extent on such an irrelevant issue :) I am indeed intrigued to see what you are saying and at the very least it would be a bit of a show for the good folk of this forum. Also, I didn't attempt to introduce a new topic into this thread...

  6. I don't. I would like to apologise to anyone who feels like this, but I am somewhat at a loss to understand why the word 'troll' is used. I perhaps do have a habit of asking lots of questions, but not with the intention of wasting people's time. As a relative newcomer (a couple of years now) who has limited skills, I admit that I will be quite eager to ask questions.

    Will look into it, thanks.

  7. Intriguing! James Petts has just built a colossal shed (with photos) to house two monstrous layouts, surely he's not also asking about baseboards "for a couple of quid", unless he really is the worst troll ever!?  :dontknow:

Then again someone suggesting they could re-carpet their model room just to facilitate some woodworking, but can't 'afford' a modest baseboard does suggest someone is perhaps not overly serious in their contributions!

I obviously meant that not seriously.

  8. Hear Hear. You can buy a big set of springs, just for jumping on the bandwagon... However.... There is no such thing as bad publicity. "Quick! Create a bit of diversionary news! Keep the project in the spotlight! There's nothing like having a bunch of uninformed people braying in the ether.

    Cheers,

Now, if that nice Mr Jones would release that MSC austerity (no, not a J94) then we can all get back on our perches....

HM Gov. just doesn't really know whats going on. I found another model company (Rails of Sheffield) listed as 'Dormant'.

  9. HGVs should really be doing the stopping- it's safer for trained drivers in clearly visible vehicles at relatively slow speeds to decelerate and stop compared to a guy on a motorbike. The constabularies should hire some HGVs to drive slow and steady, forcing people to slow down for their own safety instead of 'the copper'.

  10. How about giving one tip about safety? It could be about keeping healthy, internet safety, road safety- anything!

One rule: actual tips and not jokes unless written in italics. These are jokes- DO NOT CARRY OUT THOSE ACTIONS
