  1. Thank you so much, I now have a better understanding of how it is used. You can teach an old dog new tricks : ) God Bless Spiff
  2. Good evening gentlemen from a chilly Mullion Cove Cornwall. Just joined your forum : ) I had been searching the web for information on a product that was given to me at the local boot sale, the ladies husband was a model maker and had sadly passed away. The item was Carr's 179 No Clean Solder Cream C1016, I did not know exactly what it was and neither did the lady. I know that this is a model forum, but you gentlemen are used to soldering very small parts. I also found an old posting by Quarryscapes that mentioned the product. I have an Oculus Rift VR headset, unfortunately they suffer from a fault in a very fine ribbon cable feeding audio to the headphones and rear LED's. The six copper tracks are .1 or .2mm wide and close together, to repair the fault I used a .3mm soldering iron and spliced in very fine computer ribbon cable. It works but I am not happy with it as the heat melted some of the outer cover of the ribbon cable. The next attempt will be using very fine shellac covered transformer wire. I have been in electronics since 1960, but soldering to me has always been flux cored solder and standard flux. Carrs 179 No Clean Solder Cream C1016, is it just a soldering paste like flux or is it some kind of solder ? Is it suitable for copper print and electrical connections ? Does it require a separate special flux ? Is it applied as normal solder, heating them separately to tin them wire and print, then heating them together ? Thank you for your time. We have a gentleman in Mullion who has a large model railway layout, his name is Quentin, perhaps he is a member. God Bless Spiff
