  1. That is brilliant, thanks so much. I can definitely use that. I also had a look through your other threads and if my efforts look a tenth as good as what you've achieved, I'd be very happy. I had OO gauge models as a kid (late 70s / early 80s) so my loft has a motley collection of badly-repainted locos and an especially badly hacked-up Triang 31 that I tried to make into a skinhead.I remember being apprehensive about painting models that were expensive as far as I was concerned back then - and looking at the results, I should really have left them alone - so I can't imagine going anywhere near anything RTR these days. They look amazing but they are priced accordingly. We've no room for that now so I am going to try this in N gauge, if I can make some of the required buildings then I will take the plunge and start shelling out on some track etc. and get something moving. I've decided to use Excel as a drawing plan for simple buildings, resizing cells is easy, copy and paste of repeating shapes etc. - this will be a doddle now. I think I can print the glazing as cell borders on transparent media - if I had any ability it'd now be a piece of cake. Thanks so much. Thanks for the other comments and suggestions as well, I remember the MRC article now and will have to go and dig that out of the box in the loft. If anyone knows of any photos of the front of those white factory units that are always in the background, I will have no excuse not to start.
  2. Thanks all. I live in Peterborough and that shed is more like the Scalescenes one. But that's a lot more substantial if you see what I mean. Funny to think they chopped the front off for a signal! Couldn't it be mounted somewhere? Knowing it was long enough for two 55s is handy. If I can find a picture of the side then counting the panels knowing that it's about 160 ft long will help. Brick counting will help work out how tall it should be. I've already given up on trying to replicate the weird gradients even though that is something that made it even more unusual.
  3. Like many others I spent a lot of time at KX and think that the shed there would make a great model. However I can't find any details on how it was made, it's size, etc. There are quite a few photos around but I can't get the details that I need. I even tried using photos in Google Sketchup to generate a 3d model but that proved beyond me! Given that the shed at King's Lynn was very similar, does anyone know if these we built to a standard pattern, and if so do such plans still exist? Failing that does anyone have plans for a model that they may have built? I've searched forums, Flickr, etc., but I can't seem to find just what I'm after. Apologies in advance, it must seem as though Kings Cross 1970s is the new "GWR branch terminus" sometimes. The old steam-era building is inconveniently hidden in most photos - and as for those weird factory units in the background, an NFL depot apparently, I have no idea how big that was, what it looked like, or what it was for!
