  1. Fabricated in Bristol a number operated on docksides around the south and southwest. Does anyone make a OO gauge model of this loco?
  2. I am modelling Bridestowe station as the fictitional site of a preservation society. The Rattlebrook railway was a private siding connected at Bridestowe to bring peat from the moors. It closed in 1935. But during the last years of operation a converted lorry was used on tbe standard gauge private siding to carry the peat to Bridestowe instead of a horse drawn cart. Can anyone give me an idea of the sort of lorry that would have been used and the conversion of the lorry. Bill
  3. Thanks for all the information. I have a penchant for the ugly duckling being somewhat of an individualist and actually liking the underdog. I have both versions of the Lima class 17 with twin axles and 4 axles. I also have Park royal railbusses, class 121 railbusses, Spam cans and Deltics. Somewhat eclectic in my selection. It has been very informative and interesting reading your comments
  4. I am suffering some confusion here. All the documents I have found show the Class 17 diesel shunters to have 4 axles, and there are Lima Class 17s out there with 4 axles but the one I have has only 2 axles, and was obviously intended to be like that because the frame mouldings have moulded springing and axleboxes for 2 axles only. As far as I can tell it was available in two forms D8900 in BR green livery and D8915 in BR blue and yellow. So my question is, is this an oddball design Lima produced, and subsequently corrected or was there really a 2 axle version of the Clayton Class 17 diesel Shunter? If so what was it's class number?
  5. I have managed to lay hands on two Hornby Skale Auto "Pickford's" Scammell Contractor crew cab ballasted tractors, now apparently out of production. I will scratchbuild a similar low loader to the Langley 100 ton girder type, but extended to accommodate a coach Approx 265mm over the bed. My layout is actually present day, as a preserved railway, the home of the mythical West Devon Railway Preservation Society, which allows me to run what I like including locos and railcars that were never preserved. Being a society of considerable means, they have also purchased the necessary road transport vehicles of the period they are interested in to allow them to move equipment to and from the site. I may use the Langley bolster bogies as a base for the low loader. They are 1/76 scale and will match the Contractors. All painted up in Pickford's blue. This is probably going to take some time but I will post pictures when done. I also have a couple of variants of Scammell Scarabs from Ledo limited edition in BR colours also in 1/76 scale, but am looking for one or two of the earlier Scammell 6hp Mechanical Horses in GWR colours
  6. Thanks one and all, seems like it is never easy to get what you want. Ah well if it's worth doing...... although living in Singapore there are exactly 3 model shops none of which have a great range of products and the price is about 3 times the UK price!
  7. I am in the process of building a layout based on a real location, Bridestowe Station, but as a fictional railway preservation society, as that allows me to run what I like! not necessarily SR. As such I would like to incorporate a heavy haulage item, a loco or carriage being delivered by road on a heavy haulage rig, something along the lines of Scammell or AEC ballasted truck, 60 foot low loader, Scammell or AEC ballasted truck as seen on the roads in the 50's. there seems to be a dearth of models of this type on the market, the only low loaders being about 20 feet scale length. Has anyone else tried this? or know where I can find the components to make up this rig?
