  1. That sounds like something from Michael Bentine c1950s Yes that sounds like something I was thinking of. The question is, has anybody done it or suggestions on how to achieve it?
  2. I've almost finished layout the track for the station throat. It is very loosely based on the southern end of Leicester Central station (GCR of course). In the hope of creating a degree of realism, I wondered whether any has produced a means of detecting when a train is going through the throat and creating the sound of the wheels grinding against the rails - I hope you know the noise I mean. I'm in OO on Peco code 75, using DCC (or will be shortly). My only two locos have got sound chips (D11s) so they will chuff (I hope), but it's that sound of the rails that I'd like - to bring life to the scene. Any thoughts please?
  3. Thanks. A very helpful thread with all sorts of ideas - and only just raised, as if for my assistance. I need to work on searches more. I don't find what I'm looking for at present. Brian
  4. I've just started a new layout, after 30 years absence from the hobby. It's OO gauge and is a fictitious location on the GCR somewhere around 1920, to use the two Directors I've bought. The station is roughly based on the southern half of Leicester Central, to get a couple of bay platforms included, and I'm hoping to model Rugby Central booking hall and entrance at the north end of the station - the opposite end to the bays. But all of that is only background. My question is about track lengths, and I can't find any other thread about this (but being new I'm still finding my way around). I'm using flexi track (peco 75) but I want the old track lengths (66ft? 264mm?) to get the old clickety click noise from the carriages. I'm just looking for confirmation about the lengths and advice about how to go about this - and pitfalls etc to watch out for. I'm sure someone knows this stuff. Progress so far, is that the station baseboards are built and installed in the loft [eventually it will be a full circuit around the perimeter of the loft], and the first lot of cork underlay is drying out now. Points and flexitrack have been bought, but I'm taking my time about going much further. I tend to measure (and think) 10 times before cutting once. I've designed the whole thing in AnyRail, over about 6 months, but already reality is causing that design to get tweaks as I lay things on the board - and think again. Your help with the thinking process will be much appreciated. Thanks in anticipation. Brian
