  1. Just allow me to add some things: - different brake squeal with a train behind or loco running light engine - maybe different curve squeal sounds - coal shovelling is different if stationary or on the move with heavy load But most of this is possible and also included in some projects. Zimo offers a second sound set for light engine running. ESU allows free programming of alternative sounds. The problem is that most customers do not want these features (too complicated?) or at least don't use them even if available. They don't even read the manual where all the options are described. I saw videos on YouTube running the loco in the yard in train pulling mode even if there was a function button for light engine. And if you really have a project with example correct volume of rod clanks or correct number of silent chuffs at start, the customer claims it because he wants always full sound. I have no problem with wheelslip sound without the loco really slipping. What I don't like is the slip sound just overdubbed and out of sync with the sound and the normal chuffs going on at full volume and the loco still accelerating.
  2. Hi, real wheelslip is possible: https://youtu.be/uEF-VT3smOc?t=36 https://youtu.be/uEF-VT3smOc
  3. If you like to have some functions working also on the consist address you can define that in CVs 21 and 22. Description is included in every manual. If you want to switch from consist to separate operation use PoM to set CV 19 to 0 after end of the journey. A good controller is able to do that. Locos won't move on their normal address if CV 19 is greater than 0.
  4. Hi Jim, I always run my ESU decoders at 125 - 150% volume (CV 63 = 160 - 192). No problem with an appropriate speaker. It can get up to 70 degrees which is below the melting point of the model housing. Too high volume or low speaker impedance just lead to distortion in sound and a short lets the amp switch off. But the amp is being destroyed when voltage comes from the wrong end. On all decoders. Example if a blank speaker wire or housing touches a part which is connected to the tracks. Usually it is no problem to get a free replacement for an ESU within warranty time.
  5. Hello I'm new to the forum and not sure if this is the right subforum. If it's wrong here, please correct me. I have a Bachmann Panier 64xx (31-636A) and want to install a speaker in the cab. But I am not sure how to separate the cab from the boiler without damaging it. Does anyone know how to do it best? Every hint much appreciated. Thank you
