  1. It's the vacuum ejector pipe, Jesse. I used one from a Bachmann K3 for mine, but I'd imagine something like 0.7 brass wire would do the trick, cut into small lengths and glued between the handrail pillars.
  2. Potter’s Bar for me as well. Hearing and seeing the down trains slogging up the bank would be spectacular.
  3. Thank you very much GN, that’s all really helpful. I’ll start searching books but I’ll send a PM as well. Jamie
  4. This is fascinating stuff, GN. I might pinch some of your ideas for Tuxford North. A question, if I may. How have you worked out loco rosters? E.g. If a KGX pacific goes out on, say, the 1054 KGX to Newcastle, how have you figured out which working the engine returns on? I’d be interested to see pictures and explanations of your loco storage facilities as well. You mention the HMRS surveys quite a lot, do you know if there are prewar versions or equivalents as well? Regards, Jamie

  6. If Ely is small enough to count as ‘country’ then I’ll go for that. I’ve lived there all my life and it’s the namesake city for the club I belong to (despite it not actually being situated in Ely). Much of the original station survives although platform 1 has had an extension. Interestingly, the down platform (1) was on a loop off of the down main whereas the up platform was directly on the up main. The loop was taken up in the 90s I think. Jamie
  7. It looks like they’ll be providing full length drain pipes for the streamlined W1. Hopefully they’ll be available separately or in a detail pack so they can be used on A4s as well.
  8. I like it, the wagons frame it nicely. It may look better with something on the main to distract the eye from the empty space behind the line of wagons. The views I really like are: Something on the Up arriving at the station viewed through the roof A down train south of Crescent Bridge viewed from between the trees (like the WD shot seen about a week ago) Shiny A4s at platform 6, going north (I think there was a shot like that seen recently) Jamie

  10. Tuxford North for me. ‘Cos I’m modelling it.
  11. My dad wanted to call our previous cat Dougal after Father Dougal McGuire. When my mum refused he replied 'that's alright, we'll save that name for one of our children'. Thankfully, both of our cats have had sensible names (Max and Kiera). This is our current cat, Kiera: Jamie

    On Cats

Our first Cat was Max, who moved in with my parents when they were living in Leytonstone. There was a lady down the road who had lots of cats and Max used to live there but he would walk around the street and we eventually took him in. He got dementia and cancer and was put down when he was 16 in 2014. He was friendly to people he knew but would still occasionally scratch us. He fought other cats a lot but sadly he seemed to always lose and would often require a trip to the vets to have a wound cleaned and a tube and bucket fitted. Quite soon after Max died we got our first rescue cat, from cat's protection. She's a long-haired tortie-tabby and was living with 20 or so other cats at her previous home and then lived in a dark, cold garage before we got her (thankfully I've heard cat's protection don't use this garage any more). She's called Kiera and is the most docile and friendly cat I've ever met. She loves being around people but will spend hours on a bed or sofa sleeping. She's getting on for 7 or 8, I think Neither of these two have been layout-destroyers but Max would often bring mice in. I think Kiera is too dim/lazy to catch anything other than a snail.
  13. And as we found at Ely last year, they have a tendency to uncouple whilst on the move. I’ve just started using smith’s 3-links and I find them quite easy to use, although my eyesight is still pretty good. I don’t bother with a magnetic link, just the standard wire hook on a torch. They work well and look so much better than tension locks or kaydees. Just my tuppence worth, Jamie Edit, I don’t bother springing my couplings. The wagons will derail long before the springs compress.
  14. Well Ely is on the way to Norwich from London if you start from King’s Cross so I’ll go for there. If that’s doesn’t count I’ll go for Cambridge.
  15. York for me. Lots of memories of going there by train, most recently behind 60009 and back with 6233.
  16. Another vote here for Riccarton Junction.
  17. Keighley for me. A beautiful station plus, of course, the attraction of the KWVR.
  18. Carlisle for me but only because it had proper engines allocated there (A3s)
  19. Your secret’s out. Does this mean your whole thread has been a metaphor for your cunning plan to capture the likes of Ian Rathbone and threaten them with lining all your Atlantics or they’ll be shrunk down and stuck to Hadley Wood’s platforms for eternity? Lovely work on the tunnel mouth and signal box. Where do you 2mm modellers get your huge coins from?
  20. I'll go for Nottingham Victoria as well.
