Hello, I plan to replace the awful plastic nameplates on a recent Hornby Princess Coronation and was wondering if anyone knew what color No. 46250 City of Lichfield’s nameplates should be for the BR express blue livery era? Hornby’s model comes with black ones but upon review of a B&W photo I found in an old book of mine they seem to be red, given the light shade. Also note how clear the lining shows up, perhaps its in BR blue when the photo was taken? There is no information given about when the photo was taken. Hope you guys can help! Chris

Hello, I am interested in modelling Sir Nigel Gresley as she appeared in the following photos. I read in Vol. 3 from the "Ian Allen Locomotives in Detail" series that No. 7 was originally fitted with cast brass nameplates but were replaced by a "fabricated type which had stainless steel letters and borders." In current preserved form No. 7 has stainless steel nameplates, but I am wondering if they were like this during BR days as well? I had the impression that the A4s with stainless steel type nameplates were simply chrome plated, which eventually wore off over time. For example, Dominion of Canada had brass type nameplates before its most recent restoration, and currently are stainless steel again. The few color images I have seen of SNG during BR days have all been inconclusive. Note the color of the cab side builders plate and of the nameplate below. Hope you can help me out!

Having seen all of the disappointing news from the Hush Hush, I was relieved to have my W1 arrive safely to the US. I bought this directly from Hornby's UK website as my original Hatton's order was canceled and this was the only place I could preorder it from. I must say that the shipping box had no form of bubble wrap or padding inside to prevent the models box from being tossed around harshly, so I was very fortunate to receive a pristine model in my hands. I would hope that a model that costs upwards of 240 USD would be better packed, especially if its directly from Hornby. Stunning model overall!

Thank you for this bit of info Simon! If I do go forward with this conversion, I'll be opting for red backed nameplates, but its does seem the biggest challenge will be to delicately cut down the tender. Another issue I've found is that Bittern's speedometer is attached to a longer wheel crankpin, which will have to be replaced or cut down somehow as the A4's did not have them yet during the early BR years. Hello, I've recently bought a Hornby 1:1 Bittern and was interested in renaming/renumbering it to Mallard as it ran during the locomotive exchange trials. I would just like to know what color were Mallards nameplates during this period? I have a pair of black painted nameplates that I would like to use, but I know post war A4s were given red nameplates when repainted to garter blue. Any help is appreciated! Chris
