  1. Not over and over but a couple or so times.
  2. That's what I understand it to mean too.
  3. Definitely let's have some more Tony. To your £1,000 you can add donations that I and I'm sure many others have sent to CRUK directly after watching your previous offerings. As a firmly committed S7 Midland modeller I find LB and your videos fascinating, which says a lot about the quality of the modelling and the presentation. Best wishes and keep it up. Dave
  4. An overcast day here in the Shropshire/Staffordshire borderlands. SWMBO is sufficiently recovered from her lurgy to go to her art group this morning, although she still has a hacking cough at times. Hence there is much activity with the preparation of materials etc. whilst I am communing with Mug O'Coffee and contemplating the day ahead. A Probus committee meeting followed by giving my talk then checking on my Dad's house (he's still living with us at present after his broken hip episode) and some more work on the various writings I have to do will pretty much fill it up. Sorry to hear Jamie's verdict on the new Endeavour series; since SWMBO is a firm fan of The Midwife I've recorded Endeavour and was looking forward to watching it so we'll have to see.... What is MYOB anyway? Everytime I start to compose a post on this thread the reply box contains one that I started composing days ago that I have to delete. Any ideas how to get rid of it permanently? Have a good day awl. Dave
  5. I knew that red kites had made a comeback to Britain but the spread of red cranes in France is news. A bit cloudy here in N Salop but warm for the season. Lots of activity on the bird feeders outside our bedroom window, especially on the coconut shells with fat and berries in them with blue tits well to the fore. The resident robin has become lazy in his habits and now spends time loitering on the ground under them waiting for the bits they drop and casually cleaning up. This annoys the dominant male blackbird who reckons that he thought of it first and the robin is on his pitch but the robin now recognises that the blackbird is all mouth and trousers, as my grandad used to say, and ignores his posturing. SWMBO now claims to be largely over the lurgy and has brought Mug O'Coffee to kickstart the day for me. Much of my time will then be spent writing for the Midland Railway Society newsletter and preparing a display board concerning Midland locomotives that Adrian Tester (Crimson Rambler to this site) and I are doing for a small exhibition the Society is putting on at the Hallmark Midland Hotel in Derby over the weekend following May 10th in recognition of the 175th anniversary of the formation of the Midland. Then I've got to make sure that a talk I'm giving tomorrow on the great railway contractor Thomas Brassey is ready to go before preparing dinner, as I have contracted to do. Any time I have left may be devoted to painting a small, four wheeled, self propelled, rail guided vehicle. A fairly busy day therefore in prospect so I'd better get on with it. My prayers go with Q and the others who are in a bad way. Glad you are recovered Jamie. 'Bye for now awl. Dave
  6. Does that mean spring started here today as well, Jamie, when I got the wheels for my crane kit and took it out of the box to have a look at what is required? Dave
  7. First of all, thanks to Stationmaster for the tip. I've managed to get rid of the notifications OK but the other thing, I.e., the list that appears top right when I log on headed 'Followed Topics' that actually bears no relation to the topics I do follow is still there. Not only are the topics listed definitely not ones that I follow but, like others have found, they're not even ones that I've ever looked at. A bit cloudy but otherwise a fair start to the weekend here. SWMBO still full of lurgy so planned weekend activities either cancelled or on hold, hence not much to report apart from I'll be shopping, cooking etc. With a bit of luck, though, I may get some time to indulge in a bit of soldering iron wrestling. Have a good day everyone. Hope GDB enjoys the game. Dave
  8. So how do I get rid of them? (being a paid-up member of the 'anything to do with IT works on the FM* principle' club). Dave *F.......... Magic
  9. Just a quick question - does anyone know why when I log on to RMW I get a list at the top right of the page headed 'Followed Topics' that bears no relation to the topics that I actually follow? Can I change it? Dave
  10. A bright and sunny North Shropshire meets the eye this morning. As expected, SWMBO is stricken with the lurgy and has cancelled her planned activities for the day but is putting a brave face on it. Once I've finished communing with Mug O'Coffee I'lll be sorting out breakfast for her and Dad before getting lunch ready for both of them as I'll be out at lunchtime visiting a client for a debt relief charity I work for sometimes. Then it'll be shopping and dinner to get prepared so the liklehood of any quality soldering iron time is a bit remote. Mind you, compared with Mal and the other really unfortunate webbers I've got nothing to complain about so onward and upward as they say. At least I've got a nice day for it. Hope everyone has as good a day as possible. Dave
  11. After the bookcase incident yesterday I was looking forward to a non-eventful day today. Until, that is, I went to the dentist for what I naively expected to be a quick filling repair that turned out to be the first of four visits that will involve root canal treatment, an insert of some sort and a full crown that will soak up much time, probably discomfort and lots of modelling vouchers. B*gger! Had a pleasant lunch out that partially made up for that but now SWMBO seems to be going down with the lurgy of some sort so I may be adding nursing duties to tomorrow's routine. As the old Chinese curse goes, "May you live in interesting times." Despite the diet I think that a small libation of Scottish falling down water is in order tonight. Dave
  12. Another grey but calm and dry morning here in hippo-land. Mug O'Coffee close by together with a rather lovely hand-made card from SWMBO to celebrate SV day. Fortunately I had already bought her one before the sky bookcase fell in yesterday so all is well and harmonious on the domestic front. Visit to the dentist this AM as I broke a piece off a tooth the other day then lunch out, providing I can chew OK. Not sure whether any workshop time will then be in order as I still have to fix the holes in the wall following the bookcase debacle. Have a good day everyone and thoughts for those who cannot. Dave
  13. So, there I was with my new laser printer fresh out of the box; all I had to do was connect it up (which I managed to do successfully despite the so-called instructions consisting purely of six miniscule sketches with arrows) but there was one small snag in that it was about four inches deeper that my old printer, which meant that it overhung the shelf on which it stands and was a little unstable as a result. No problem, I'll simply move the desk four inches away from the wall. Ah, that means I'll have to move the old bookcase at the side the same amount but never mind, I'll get SWMBO to assist. "Wouldn't it be better to empty the bookcase first," asked SWMBO. "Nah, we'll be able to move it as it is", sez I so we started. All went well for about two inches, then there was a sort of creaking noise followed by a sort of cracking noise followed by a cascade of books, shelves and other assorted bits 'n pieces. I think I said something along the lines of "Dash and bother." At that stage the realisation slowly dawned that what I had failed to note was that the top of the bookcase had been attached to the wall. This was about 11.15 this morning. By 5.30 pm I had finished rebuilding the bookcase, redrilled and plugged the wall and connected the bookcase to it, put all the books back and finally got the printer going. Tomorrow I'll fill the holes in the wall and paint over the damage. Ah, well, on the bright side it was only the bookcase and the wall that suffered; I got away without doing a GDB in the process, although as the Duke of Wellington would have said, it was a damn close-run thing as I was left holding the disintegrating edifice with books raining all over me. Bit of a strange day really. Never did get round to wielding a soldering iron. Probably won't tomorrow either. H. Alf Wit AKA Dave
  14. Mug O'Coffee being consumed in a grey but dry and calm North Shropshire. Market day today so off shortly to do battle with the hordes and must remember to purchase a greetings (if that's the right word, or should it be sloppy?) card for SWMBO to be presented tomorrow. Also hope to pick up my new printer, which I have had on order for a few weeks now from our local confuser shop. I've decided to go for a laser job this time for several reasons (cue deluge of posts telling me why I've made the wrong decision) including making transfers (decals for transatlantic readers) that don't need overspraying to make them waterproof and printing stencils on model items such as packing crates etc. - see Tricky's workbench thread I think. Who knows, I may even get some time operating a riveting tool and soldering iron later on if I'm lucky. Thoughts for our less fortunate colleagues. Dave
  15. When I played rugby in the RAF everyone had to call the referee 'Sir' on the field whatever their respective ranks. I was playing once when the referee penalised me for 'climbing' in the lineout ( and there's a sign of the times) and as he was a friend of mine from training days I said something like, 'Ah, come on Martin...' whereupon I was admonished with, 'Any more arguing from you number eight and I'll send you off,' followed by a bo**ocking from my captain, who was junior in rank to me. Just to make my day I was later admonished by my Squadron Commander who had been spectating. Happy days!
  16. It's a mantra among pilots that the three most useless things in the world are height you've lost, fuel you've used and runway behind you. I would be critical of any pilot who didn't backtrack (the term for turning the wrong way then doing a U-turn at the end) before taking off. It's a bit silly to have an engine failure just before takeoff and being left with insufficient runway to stop because you didn't backtrack. Dave
  17. Mug O'Coffee consumed, granddaughter taken to school, second Mug O'Coffee on the go and contemplating another exploration northwards on the great British road block system to home base. I agree with Jamie about scrums these days; l commented when watching the highlights of England thrashing France (couldn't resist that!) that it seemed as though the put-in was directed towards the second row, never mind the hooker! TTFN Dave
  18. Andrew C, Thanks for the suggestion about watching and recording with two smartphones. There are just a few snags: my mobile phone is so old and basic that it doesn't even have a camera let alone anything cleverer; even if it did I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to use it; and last but not least if I got caught, divorce lawyers are expensive. But thanks for the thought. Dave
  19. Good morning. Currently recovering from a visit when still in bed earlier on from a six year old who thinks that a really good way of starting the day is to jump up and down on Grandad. Not sure what the weather is like outside here in Surrey as I haven't yet recovered sufficiently to open the curtains. Son is currently manufacturing coffees (more accurately lattes, which I think is the newspeak for coffee made with milk) so I may be in better shape to face the world when it has been consumed. The bad news is that when England are, hopefully, beating France I'll be attending aforementioned granddaughter's song and dance show in Epsom so I'll have to watch a recording. Good move on the poaching rather than frying GDB - I too am working towards getting down to eggsactly the right weight. Have a good day everyone. Dave
  20. Commiserations to Andy and a fond au revoir to Chris. Flying isn't that bad Chris - I did it for a living for nearly 40 years and am still here to tell the tale! And to see places like Singapore and Australia makes it well worth while. I'll be spending my morning on a tour of some of our nation's great car parks, namely the M6, M42, M40 and M25 on my way to sunny Surrey. With luck I'll be in Leatherhead by 1 o'clock to meet up with an ex-RAF pal for lunch then to my son's house. Tomorrow my 6 year old granddaughter Leila is in some sort of song and dance extravaganza and we then return home on Monday. Must remember to stop off at a Halfords to pick up some etch primer during the oddesey. Have a good day Webbers. Thoughts and a prayer for those suffering. Dave
