  1. It looks like it's supposed to be one of these:

I'm not familiar with the Trix model, but it looks like it has been severely shortened to fit on a standard 9' or 10' wagon chassis, the prototype was a 16' wheelbase.

As a freelance model it will be fine, I would suggest adding some full length footboards to the chassis to disguise its wagon origins.

  2. Lima steam locos always seemed pretty thin on the ground, my guessing is it won't be a Lima 45xx. I wonder what happened to the Lima steam loco tools? Did they rust away like the Kitmaster J94 kit was supposed to have done for instance?

Sorry for the slight thread drift, I've no idea what happened to the Lima tooling, but the Kitmaster J94 tooling didn't rust away.  When Airfix took over they never produced any J94 kits as far as I know.  When the tooling passed to Dapol, they went on to produce some of the J94 kits, because I have a couple salted away for future projects. (I can't lay my hands on them at the moment.)  The story I was told, (and I have no way of proving whether this is true or not), is that the kit tooling was damaged shortly after Dapol released their RTR J94 and it was later reported to be one the moulds destroyed in the Winsford fire, so never made the transition to the Chirk factory.

    Kind regards

Edit, I lied!  Airfix did produce some J94 kits, see attached link http://www.yesterdaystoys.co.uk/Airfix-Series-2-No-R205-Saddle-Tank-J94-OO-Scale-Model-Kit-1966-68_A1BDPR.aspx

  3. So I learnt today my car is an OLD car in a Classics format!

    2001 Rover 75 2.5 KV6 auto Connessuer,

Well I knew it was good anyway, and more important I like it. TBH, there is nothing being sold today that is newer that I would remotely want either.

Your post put a smile on my face, I too driver a similar vintage Rover 75, although mine is a 2.0 litre diesel, not the KV6.  Like you, I wouldn't swap mine for anything else (except possibly a Tourer version, so I can get the layout in!)

  4. Then the axle with the worm gears was rebuilt but part of the original motor cut off and a new gear fitted on to connect to the motor. The gear system is quite a slow one and for every 1 turn of the wheels there is 37 revolutions of the motor.

I hope this is of some interest ! (And I know my modelling capabilities are not the best but this is my first locomotive upgrade!)(Apologies for poor quality pictures!)

    Thanks, J.

That is definitely of interest, that's an inspired upgrade of a Triang loco!  You've mentioned adding an extra set of gears, may I ask where did you get them?  And could we have a picture of the chassis showing the new gears please?

    thanks in advance

  5. Anyone remember "Scale Models and Kits" at the top of Halliwell road in Bolton? In the late 70's-early 80's

    Happy days.....

    Jon F

I remember "Scale Model & Kits," but I thought it lasted into the early 90's.  I lived in Bolton from 1990 to 2008 and I do recall going in the shop, but it closed fairly soon after.

  6. Harry Welch's on Church Street in Preston, probably the first model shop I ever went in, aged about 10.  When that closed we had Trains & Transport near the railway station, I forget the name of the side street, but it was off Fishergate.

I too remember Bradford Model Railway Exchange on Mosley Street as I used to work round the corner in Portland Street for many years.  I seem to recall it closing down very suddenly.

  7. My first memory is of PINZA coming into York station in about 1976, the driver was coming in to the platform too fast & he slammed on the brakes. It slid to a halt in a shower of sparks from all 12 wheels, very impressive to a 13 year old in the gloom of York's trainshed!

I saw another Deltic (can't remember the number) at Wolverton Works open day around 1987/88. It was parked next to Princess Elizabeth, which was steaming gently. Then they fired the Deltic up, that generated far more smoke and noise than the steamer sat next to it!

Many years later when commuting daily in to Manchester Piccadilly (late 1990's) I remember walking over the footbridge from platform 13 one day and the whole of Piccadilly station was vibrating, I thought "there's a Deltic here somewhere" and sure enough, there was in platform 6 surrounded by a crowd of enthusiasts.

Thanks for starting this thread, brings back happy memories.

  8. Morning All, just sitting down to round 2 of breakfast (bacon butties). I had to go into Wigan to collect some goodies from the Post Office, so set off at 7.30, to find the first bus into Wigan wasn't until 7.50, so ended up walking all the way. Just for a change, instead of following the roads I walked along the towpath of the Leeds Liverpool Canal, very pleasant this morning. Caught the bus back though!

One of the parcels contained my new (well, new to me) Farish 37 in coal sector livery, bought off Ebay earlier this week, can't wait to go round to my mate's house to try it out on his layout.

I'm off to paint some Pikestuff buildings, then off to my mate's.

  9. Morning all.

It's snowing steadily here in Wigan, just what I need since I'm about to set off to do a demo at Pontefract show! Oh well, at least I put the car in the garage last night, so I don't have to dig that out. Looking forward to a good day at Pontefract.
