  1. Morning all, I have just bought one of these, my other 3 locos are Bachmann. I have the 59 pulling a rake of 7 bogie tipplers two of which have full loads not dummies. My question is, after approx. 5 mins the Lima just stops, and I have to leave it for 5 mins before it runs again and repeats the process, are these motors prone to overheating when worked? Thanks, Tim.
  2. Thanks for replies, it's a very small layout in its early stages, about an 8'x4' squarish oval with sidings for fuel pump and an off shoot of about 8' to a (very) small marshalling yard. The class 20 is the saltburn by the sea version and is all tarted up, not a working loco, and a very weathered gronk in EWS livery. I have kept the steel wagons in the railfreight colours so perhaps that's the way to go.
  3. Morning all. Being new to model railways I wanted some authenticity advice. I have a very nice rake of steel flats and coil carriers, and I fancied getting a class 57 freightliner, would freightliner pulled steel wagons? I do have a railfreight class 20 and a very dodgy running railfreight distribution (eBay stitch up) class 47. I gather a railfreight steel sector would be better but I fancied the green freightliner. Advice welcome, thanks, Tim.
  4. Morning all. Has anyone used GT85 as a lubricant on their locos? Or as it's only minute amounts, car engine oil? Thanks, Tim.
  5. Crikey Jonny, that's the railway equivalent of faded jeans.
  6. Thanks Chris, it was a white pigment in the revell kit which I put on dry and kept rubbbing in with cotton bud. It could be better, but it's my first attempt, I just couldn't live with a shiny shutter. Tim.
  7. On a Hornby analogue track, do the points act as an isolater for the branch? What I mean is, when I get my second loco can I leave it parked on a siding while using the other loco on the main track or will something be doing damage. More silly questions to follow no doubt.
  8. Me again. Have any of you guys tried humbrol dust wash, it's a bit short on instructions and I wondered if you added thinners and how much. As usual, thanks in advance. Tim
  9. Thanks lads, that makes sense. Tim.
  10. I know I'm stupid............why do some trains have brake vans and some don't?
  11. Anyway, after all that I have bought the Bachmann "saltburn by the sea" brand new. Sorted. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Tim.
  12. Thanks for all the replies. Looks like lima are out, and i like slow and smooth running. The track was off ebay from a Hornby set.
  13. Thanks for the quick reply teacup, reliability is more important than detail. I am a pensioner, with iffy eyesight, so detail is no big deal, I just want to go in the shed and play. I have come to the conclusion that the overlap of railfreight and EWS suits me and my love of diesels. Money is an issue, but so is reliability. Thanks, Tim.
  14. Hi, as a newbie I'm now looking to buy a second loco. I presently have a Bachmann EWS 08 as my layout will be based around a marshalling yard. I am now looking to buy a railfreight class 20 or 37. Lima keeps cropping up, but as an old sod I have only really heard of Hornby, and I am just getting my head around Bachmann. So, are Lima any good? Thanks, Tim.
  15. Thanks I'm not clued up on this, (yes I meant the 08) when was EWS formed.
  16. Could any of you knowledgeable guys tell me what years EWS operated these little shunters, thanks.
  17. Thanks lads, I will wait until I get another loco, I only have the one at the moment, I've just started, so watch this space.
  18. Crickey , think I will give that a miss. To many delicate little handrails and steps to start wrestling with it. Thanks for the reply. Tim
