  1. Project PL16: Having found more drawings on the PL16 family of pylons, I have decided to look into the possibility of making full scale model, with the option to scale them down to OO / N gauge and look at potentially selling 3D Prints of the towers in these scales. I have chosen the PL16 as it can suit most layouts from the late 1940s / early 1950s right up to the present day. A standard height tower in OO is roughly 34cm tall with an N gauge version being roughly 17cm tall. For starters, I am currently designing the PL16 Scottish DD, this will then be followed by the Scottish D tower. This is a long term project which will take time, but hopefully something useful can come of it in the end. Attached below are the beginnings of the PL16 DD tower, with an outline one side and the bracing being done on the other.
  2. Well after a quick look and some careful soaking… I managed to get one set on! I am aware that there’s better transfers from Fox etc but I thought I’d give the originals a go… just to try and keep everything as original as possible I guess! Will try the other 2 numbers when I can get 2 more donor models. Thanks for the help too! I know it was rather basic but I’ve never dealt with transfers this old before.
  3. Ah thanks! The only reason I think they aren’t water slide is that the clear paper is stuck onto the print. So I don’t suppose it’s a case of dipping them in water and pressing them down using the clear paper and they come off that way? Might have to do a little investigation
  4. Hi all, I recently won a Hornby 9F (R264) and included in the model are a set of alternative numbers. Now as I already have this particular model I’m thinking of using these alternative numbers to change the numbers one of my 9Fs. I don’t think they’re standard water slide transfers and this type are completely new to me. So I’m wondering if they are still good to use? And if so how do I go about applying them? Many thanks!
  5. These were my first attempts at modelling and will be updated with steel thicknesses. I have a copy of the enhanced tower bible as well. As I said earlier me and a contact at national grid tried to complete it as best we could
  6. These models are all based off official drawings from my more complete version of the tower bible. All bracing is there including inner bracing. As for the PL7s, this is a second version of the DT/DDT that I first thought was unique to Three Bridges Substation. However, I found a further 3 at Slough (all have since been removed), and a 4th near Scunthorpe, making me wonder that there is a secondary design for the DT. It is also worth mentioning there is a Blaw Knox derived PL7 as well. I have drawings for the DD10, DD30, DD60 and DD90
  7. Thought I would share my first attempte at 3D modelling various towers... Attached are the PL7 series and some of an L2 and L2C D60. Also are a view of their uses not only for potential 3D printing in OO/N but also for personal projects which include models of various CEGB Power Stations, such as here theres 2 PL7 DDTs at Littlebrook D Power Station. All of these were first attempts which will soon have much more detailed models done which will look much better.
  8. Good evening all, I have been reading through this thread after a few years absence (I was formally known as LMS_LNER_SR_GWR_Fan2004) and its great to see more things being done with regards to drawings and more interest and models shown! I used to have a massive folder full of various drawings of various tower types, but alas that laptop has since packed up with most of those files lost. However, earlier there was mention of a tower bible and how it was incomplete. Me and a contact at National Grid tried our best to complete as much of it as possible. With an 85-90% complete bible, now as a PDF covering all PL tower designs including the rarely seen PL2 and PL3 tower types. It has the majority of the L2 towers including the L2C variant and all this is tucked away in a folder somewhere. So a more complete bible does exist. It is also worth mentioning I have found what could be a Baw Knox L6 D40EC as well as a potential L3 D40EC. Cheers! Matt
