  1. I can't say for sure that I had a separate instruction sheet but I've a feeling there was one. Certainly if you search the web you will find images of such a sheet. The instructions on the box say to use meths. Lighter fuel would not be a practical cleaning fluid, it is far too volatile since it is butane gas under pressure to liquefy it (at normal atmospheric pressure butane boils at -1degC). Google reveals that 'Thawpit' was tetrachloromethane (carbon tet. in old money). That would remove grease based dirt very effectively but I'll be surprised if you can buy anything containing that chemical these days.
  2. Thank you. I asked because until a few weeks ago I had no idea that I owned a rarity so I was curious to find out how rare. I was given my rail cleaning wagon as part of my first train set, at Christmas 1964. I still have the wagon's original box and one of the original cardboard rings that protect the couplings but I don't have the instruction sheet, nor any of the cleaning pads.
  3. I've seen this quote: used on a couple of websites but does anybody know how many of these wagons were actually made? I'm just.wondering
