  1. Ambleside was never intended to be a “Crook St.” (if only!) but it was hoped to create a general atmosphere and get things running outside. Therefore, thank goodness for Lima. I already had a large garage full of 00 Gauge, Kendal Lines ( Model Railway Constructor 1980/81) and 35 feet of N gauge Millers Dale, in the attic, so I thought I had enough attacking my bank balance at the time. 0 Gauge is expensive. With a few house moves since, including emigration, I shall perforce continue to use and enjoy the blessed Lima in the garden alongside my more accurate models. I do appreciate finescale modelling, of course, and had circumstances allowed, would have been proud to have owned all stock of that ilk. But at eighty two, any reasonably representative model movement is a pleasure. Bernard
  2. Well known, visiting mechanical engineer completes his circuit. Graham Nicholas does his stuff to help.
  3. Welcome to Ambleside, the latest incarnation of my O gauge garden layout. We start our journey at a Windermere-esque terminus. The trains then head out of the covered area (garage) Into the garden, round a 180 curve Garden with views of the countryside beyond Trains run into the outdoor station (Kendal-ish) where they can be shunted and turned round ready for their return journey. Outdoor section has recently been rebuilt to replace rotten timber with metal structure. Most of the stock dates from earlier layouts form 1980s onwards.
