  1. Thanks for your help. Kevin had it with the burn out idea. I've ordered a new motor . Thanks again
  2. I think you may be right Kevin and I've caused a melt down . From that poor diagram does that seem in order? I will go to source a multi meter immediately. Thank you all for your input, cheers Barry
  3. Hi , thanks for replying. I don't have a multimeter. I have attached a wiring diagram . I've tried swopping the outer wires on the switch in fact I've probably swopped most wires with their opposite. The peco diagram seems simple but I've done something wrongly. Thanks again for your interest. I don't have any other motor to try . This was the first and only to date.
  4. Hi, can anyone please advise me . Until now I've been using wire in a tube points operation. I'm trying to install a peco surface mounted point motor. But it only works one way. I've checked and double checked the wiring diagram . Is it possible for one of the solenoids to have failed due to my wiring wrongly at first attempt? I've detached the motor from the points to observe the action of the arm also to preclude any chance of fouling due to uneven placement. It still only snaps across one way no sound at all the other. its a single point so no cdu. I'm completely baffled. Any help welcome. Thanks in advance
  5. Got it ,it was the despatch that needed to be completed. I must have inadvertently activated it. I see now... thanks for your time and patience.. Tanks again Barry...
  6. Hi, there is the option to answer yes and the loco is then assigned. I want to miss out the steal question as there is no other device to steal it from. Its an unnecessary step.. I've put off the reset as surely all locos will need to be re addressed. I could just not use address 9 I suppose but I would like to know how this happened so I don't do it again.. B
  7. That's my problem though . When I assign a loco as you describe it, it prompts with the text msg' do you want to steal loco.' The maddening thing is when you know, the answer is simple but when you don't ggrrrr! Thanks for your patience Barry
  8. Thanks Nigel, I've only got the base unit no extra throttles. Maybe a reset is the easiest way and re enter all the locos. Thanks for the pointer B..
  9. Hi , I'm sure this is simple once you've learned the trick. I've an address previously used to which I've assigned a new loco. Each time I activate this new loco the text band reads do you want to steal this loco. How do I get this particular address back to default I.e. empty. I'm sure this is a no brainer but beyond me.. thanks in advance...
  10. Thanks for the info. I've seen that when changing locos and the address to be acquired is still greyed out the correct ,that is old speed of the new loco, is shown correctly but as soon as the loco button is pressed to complete the change the speed alters to the previous locos speed. So it seems the potential to keep the correct speed is there. I may return it as I need something more efficient than that. Thanks all , B...
  11. Thanks Simon, so the speed should be recorded on the decoder. Odd that the more basic ez command doesn't have this problem..
  12. Hi, hope you can help me again. I've just upgraded to a digitrax zephyr express. My Bachmann ez command ran out of addresses. It was easy to set up and am running locos. However when you have more than one loco running and I switch between them the speed of the previous loco is running the new loco. Not good when switching between a slow goods and mainline express! I'm obviously missing a trick here . The ez command 'remembered ' each running locos speed and on switching reverted to that locos speed. Could be a duh moment ,any solutions. Thank you all for help received and anticipated Cheers B...
  13. Thank you all , I have learnt a lot from your replies. I am considering relaying the track in fact . Though most of the time with most locos it works well enough. My main interest is the scenic modelling. My local model shop in Hereford said that it was unlikely that even if not well laid that the track was causing the loco problems. If it were consistently blowing decoders then maybe but it is a variety of problems broken wiring due to bogey misalignment etc. By the by I should have said this is in 00 gauge. I am getting in touch with my local model railway club . So thanks again ,I will persevere because when running it has been an absolute joy .
  14. Thanks to you all. The two problematic locos are ebay buys which maybe coincidence, it would be easy to say ah well there you have it. . I'm using the Bachmann e z controller, I didn't want to spend too much (although of course I did) . As to decoders I know one is an 8 pin one a Bachmann, the others were either on board or fitted at my local model shop. I only have 6 locos in all. Two were Dapol factory fitted In all cases it was either one day they were fine, next morning quite dead or they simply stopped working while being run. No derails or shorts. I think the suggestion of a model railway club is the answer. I do like using dcc and am pleased that you say that it's not to do with that. I have decided to buy future locos from my local model shop which I'm very grateful for. It may not be the cause of the fails but it would be one variable less. Thanks for your replies...
  15. Hi, I'm new to the hobby as of this February. I chose to go with dcc. I'm having problems with locos needing repair. Luckily I have a local model shop who do repairs but it is frustrating to always to have a loco in for fixing. The problems have been a blown decoder, loose wires needing resoldering. Sometimes the same loco back in, in the same week. All in all maybe 6 repairs. The track runs well ,not enough care was taken originally and I would take much greater care now but locos run and then one doesn't. The frustration is due to not understanding what's going on. YouTube has been very useful but hasn't given me the answer. My question is, is this degree of fails normal ,are dcc locos very fragile. Is dc better for running locos? I'm not roughly handling them, they cost too much for that, the track isn't shorting so is this normal or am I just in a run of bad luck. I would appreciate any thoughts or advice.
