  1. Welcome to a Road-Rail-Steam weekend update from the team at Quorn Wagon & Wagon. https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/2024/04/21/21-04-24-in-the-dock/
  2. Hi, good luck with the Palvan. We have a couple of feature blogs about signwriting, painting and markings that we have used on our wagons, see our Quorn Wagon & Wagon webpage, this may help - https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/features/ Also attached is an 'example' of the lettering sizing and layout that we have used, but there were lots of variations on how and where lettering was applied so best to refer to pictures for actual layout etc for your wagon build/lot.
  3. Our Brute trolleys and the A type container have new homes, and the Palvan wheelsets are attended to by the team at Quorn. https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/2024/04/07/07-04-24-palvan-loaded/
  4. Another short test train, HST power cars 43051 and 43116 with Test Car 10 (ADB975814), MkIV TOE 12201 and TGS 44019. The testing of the first MKIV coach 12201 throughout February 1989 ran on the ECML between KingsX & Edinburgh. Temporary 36-way jumper cables were fitted through the MKIV so the power cars could talk to each other; the train is seen here at Grantham during a break between tests.
  5. I spent many years working on short test trains based out of the RTC at Derby. When carrying out acceptance tests of new freight stock or on-track plant, in most cases just one vehicle was submitted for test. The test trains usually consisted of just a Test Coach and the vehicle under test; here's an example, a new PXA Wagon PDUF3009 undergoing Brake Testing at Winsford 18 Aug 1986.
  6. Another week working on the Palvan, here's the update from the Quorn Wagon & Wagon team. https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/2024/03/24/24-03-24-the-final-palvan-door/
  7. I believe the details set will include the MW socket connector cables, bogie/body support pads (above sandbox), steam heat pipes and body lifting/jacking brackets as well as the bogie front end detail pipes and cables
  8. West Hill Class 40 with forthcoming detail parts
  9. We're looking forward to this coming weekend at the GCRs 125 Anniversary Open Weekend, 16-17 March 2024 https://tickets.gcrailway.co.uk/events/66145 The Quorn Wagon & Wagon team will be welcoming visitors into Test Car 2, why not pop in and say hello to the team, and take a look inside this unique piece of railway history. The Test Car will be situated in the station yard at Quorn & Woodhouse.
  10. Hello All, we're still progressing the Palvan door rebuilding, here's this week's update from the team at Quorn. https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/2024/03/10/10-03-24-more-palvan-door-work/
  11. Battery lamps were used on block tank trains I believe from the early 1970s, the lamp brackets on the tank wagons were fitted with a peg to stop oil tail lamps from being used. I also remember still using oil tail lamps on RTC test trains until the mid 1980s. https://www.flickr.com/photos/82085846@N02/44189626922
  12. Welcome to a Gala Weekend update from the team at Quorn Wagon & Wagon. https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/2024/01/28/28-01-24-tanks-for-a-great-steam-gala/
  13. Hello and welcome to this weeks update from the team at Quorn, with the completion of the restoration of our 10th tank wagon. https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/2024/01/21/21-01-24-another-tank-completed/
  14. Happy New Year and welcome to this week's first 2024 update from the team at Quorn as we focus on a rather dilapidated Palvan. https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/2024/01/07/happy-new-year-back-at-quorn/
  15. That's a great model Mol; I really enjoyed doing the lettering on our creosote tank.
  16. Indeed Paul, this tank has some history; I have fond memories of fuelling the Test Coaches at the RTC from it in the 1980s when it was there. At Quorn Wagon we decided to paint it up in Esso livery to fit in with the other Esso tanks we have done already and the others we are still restoring; looking forward to marshalling this into the tank train in the new year.
  17. Merry Christmas from the Quorn Wagon & Wagon team. Here's the update for this week, including the completion of the restoration work on tank A6090: https://quornwagonandwagon.co.uk/2023/12/24/24-12-23-merry-christmas/
  18. Another one for the list? I was involved with the testing of the ABB prototype T4-5 variant that went into production fitted under the EPS Nightstock Coaches. The testing was done on the ECML in July/Aug 1993 with a pair of bogies fitted under MkIV 10310. The bogies were proved up to 125mile/h + stability for 10% overspeed (137.5mile/h).
