  1. Thank you Tony for your help. The link below is to the Wellcome Trust and if you scroll down you can see a photo of a Southern CET - also some interior photos

      Thank you once again Tony.

      One LAST question - honest!

It would appear that the Casualty Evacuation Trains did not have Red Cross markings. Was there a cross on the roofs?

      Hi Tom

Non of the casualty evacuation trains carried Red Cross markings. The only changes to the previous livery were the yellow corner stripes, the stretcher car letters and the train number on the end coaches.

  2. Thank you very much Tony! I am attempting to model either an Ambulance Train or Casualty Evacuation Train for my WW2 era based layout. Unfortunately the photograph links you posted no longer work. There would appear to be little information or photos on the web except HERE! I have managed to find some photographs of CET No 33 of Southern Railway - both interior and exterior photos taken in November 1939. Though I am generally modelling Southern - wartime gives me opportunities for introducing the other three companies stock. I may try to make a GWR CET using Siphon G wagons. I am just pondering if they would still carry their white roofs? I may have to compromise on the coach stock. Love your model of 3207 - my skills are a bit more basic! Thank you for your contributions, it has been really interesting research.
  3. I know this is an old thread but I have found it fascinating! Did the other three companies, Southern, LMS, LNER also keep their livery for the CET trains? I understand that the GWR siphons had white roofs - were these ever changed at the start of the war? White roofs would be good for ambulance trains with a red cross but not for normal freight working - especially during air raids? Many thanks - a cracking thread.
