  1. Hi all.

I wonder if you could help me track down a book title? This is a long shot I should think, back in the 80's when I was a keen teenager with few resources, I used to regularly borrow a book about model railways from the mobile library. I remember it was probably written in the 60's or 70's, and featured a number of different layouts. In it was an article written by a lady, and in the picture I remember she had horn rimmed glasses or something similar, and she was building a model railway because as she said in the text, her brother or brothers 'wouldn't let her within a scale mile of theirs'

That, is all I can remember of the book, but I'd love to know what it was!

Does anyone have the slightest clue what the title of this book was? I wonder if the lady was Vivien Thompson? Possibly not.

    Regards

  2. Hi all.

I wonder if some knowledgeable person could help me here? I am continuing with the M&SWJR milk van, but for the life of me I can't work out what these parts are from the etch. I have folded one, and left the other. Anyone care to enlighten me as to their purpose?

  3. Hi all.

Thanks so much for the information. I really appreciate it.

I have book one, (Bartholomew) and it's a good read, although some photographs are understandably very grainy. It's probably not one of the best known or photographed lines anyway, but a fascinating subject nonetheless. I would quite like books 2 and 3, but at the right price.

    Thanks again.

  4. Hi all.

I'm building the Mousa models M&SWJR milk van etched brass kit, and wondered if anyone knows what the roof vent spacing is? I'd like to get them marked out before I shape the roof etch. First brass kit btw. It was on sale and I thought it looked like a good starting point. No instructions in the kit, but I seem to be managing. Bit of a steep learning curve though.

    Many thanks

  5. Hello all.

I was just reading an obituary for this chap in MRJ, and wonder if there are any articles or more information about him? I understood he wrote for various publications, but does anyone know about his life and work? I like the find out about the person as well as the models.

Does anyone have any photos of the coaches he produced? I understand he worked mostly in Plasticard.

If anyone can fill in the blanks I'd love to hear about it. I understand he was quite a character.

    Kind regards

  6. Hello all.

I'm after a bit of assistance.

I'm interested in modelling the Shildon Soho works circa mid 1800's and I'm in the early research stages. I have books about Mr Hackworth, been on Graces guide, looked at old maps etc, all the usual things, but I'm after ground level pictures of the buildings and other infrastructure.

I remember a charming, but now quite dilapidated model of the area in a small case at Locomotion Museum, but I don't think it is on display any more. I have contacted the museum for information on this.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I was thinking of a static diorama in 1:150 scale. Perhaps smaller.

    Many thanks

  7. Hi all.

Fairly new here and keen on scratch-building. The only thing stopping me is the availability of drawings to work from.

Can anyone suggest where I might get suitable drawings?

I haven't picked a theme yet, but likely to be the NER, or Stockton and Darlington.

Possibly Great central or L&YR at a push, as these are the ones that have piqued my interest.

    Many thanks

  8. Hello all.

I'm considering building a model railway, and I'd like to make a nice little z gauge layout.

Do Marklin still have a dealer in the UK, or is second hand the way forward?

I'm planning a long desired trip to the black forest and then Berlin when this virus stuff is over so maybe stock up when I'm over there?

    Many thanks.

  9. Hi all.

I wonder if anyone can help me?

As a teenager in the mid to late 80's I remember reading a railway magazine that had an article by a chap recounting his visit to the borders in the late 60s? (Kelso, Jedburgh) etc, in what I think was a Ford Zephyr to take some photos. It was an excellent artice that I read many times. I think the same magazine had a photo in it of something to do with the Bluebell line, perhaps a group photo?

Is this too little to go on?

I'd love to have that magazine again.

    Kind regards
