That last photo with Sir Handel is so atmospheric! Autumn is my favorite season, so seeing the few red/orange trees looks amazing in my opinion!

You're really making me want to get some bolster wagon kits! The whole layout looks great, and it currently reminds me of mountains where I live!

Hey everyone,
I noticed that no one has talked about this yet, so I'm not sure how many of you know, but Bachmann revealed their first prototype of Peter Sam in a video yesterday, with better quality pictures today!
While he is mostly based on his CGI model, there are some details that aren't on the render, that are on Edward Thomas. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
One thing I did notice was that the rear wheel is forward of where it was on the CGI model, which appears to be accurate for Edward Thomas. He also has added steps under the cab. Also, you can't see it here, but the cab is partially blacked out over the rear wheel (as if the firebox extends to the back of the cab), which is apparently because the rear wheels will be powered as well (it wasn't quite clear in the video). If that's true, it will be nice, because it will help avoid the problem that Skarloey had with traction.
What do you guys think of the model? The Facebook concensus appears to be split between "junk toy" and "it'll be fairly good". Most people are upset about the lack of daylight under the boiler. Overall, I like it, because it appears to be a similar style to how they did Rheneas, which is currently my favorite model in the range.
Edit: Oh, and the pistons are accurate to Edward Thomas, rather than the CGI render, which is a nice detail.

A bit of a random question, but does DCC generally work well with coreless motors? I know that certain analogue controllers can give issues with them.

That looks very nice! I like your methods for the slate-built structures.

I would venture that there was little by way of spontaneity in that little incident.....
Yeah, but you never know. Faulty brakes?

Well, much running, adjusting of picks ups, chassis keeper plate and general cleaning and lubricating has failed to improve things.
So regretably back it goes. A shame because like the prairie it is a lovely looking loco.
It's almost as if someone is trying yo dissuade me from modelling the Western Region...................
Well, it probably won't help if they spontaneously fall down embankment like that one earlier.

I have just gone into Bachmann's US website - where Bachmann is a household name selling to a much broader market than the UK Branchline range - and guess what? They have an online shop! They have an Amazon shop!
And they also still allow the biggest US retailers (TrainWorld) and competitors (Walthers) to sell their products and ask for pre-orders, which they actually fill.

Really? Who else is making a W1 and APT? . . .
It was mainly meant as a joke, but I was talking about the Terrier, Large Prairie, Class 91, Generic Coaches, Lion...

All those who are stating they will not buy from Hornby again are just sh*tting in your own nest. What are you going to do when Hornby announce something that you have been wanting for years? Do you want Hornby to fold and disappear? Perhaps stop your reliance on places like Hattons and look elsewhere.
The way Hornby's going, we could probably find what they make elsewhere, and probably better quality, too.

Forever?! I think that's overstating things a bit. She can always travel back down the line!

I like the look of your track plan so far! Are the three levels each going to have scenery?
Also, I have been learning things about layout making, too (mainly how much of a pain flex track is), and mine's only going to be 3'x8" for now! I feel like a first layout is really so you can learn which things you enjoy doing, and then you can figure out ways to avoid or minimize the things you dislike. Like I probably won't use flex track on my next layout.
I am looking forward to seeing how your layout goes, though! It seems to be shaping up well so far!

I like the way your test track looks so far! There seems to be so much operating potential, and you can still fit a decent train into that space! Can't wait to see further progress (take your time, though)!

Hey everyone, it's been a while, but I have an update. I was able to get cork laid on the board, spaced out the sleepers on the flex track, and I got everything glued down.
First off, I've decided to make a scene inspired by this one (ignore the title, I need to change it), after deciding Elsbridge would require more compression than I wanted to deal with. The only difference is that it'll be done as a single track line.
Here's the track layout:
After getting the track glued down, I began weathering the track using a process inspired by @NHY 581. First, I painted the sleepers chocolate (that was the color I had to hand), then I painted the rails in rust. After that, I weathered the sleepers using Tamiya mud, snow, and soot. Here are a few pictures of the track.
I feel like this is finally beginning to come together, which is pretty nice!

I've just finished reading through your thread, and honestly, if you hadn't mentioned it so much, I never would have guessed you were a beginner! Your scenery and buildings look amazing!

The Engines must not pass this board is the most familiar to me.
Yes, but if he does that one, all the engines will ignore it.
