  1. So, I've been looking around at pre-grouping 2-4-0's and 4-4-0's and have found the ratio kits. I would like to get one to go with my Class 28 dressed up as a Lanky engine (know it's not accurate but I think it would look nice) but it seems that the chassis aren't that good. I know there was a new chassis made in the 80's but I haven't seen any around. Does anyone know an easy way for a yank to get them or should I just try to machine it myself?

  2. Planning on building a L&YR Class 7 in oo gauge and looking for any info or tips on scratch-building it

I presume you mean the 1400 Class Highflyers.

      1) The largest driving wheel readily available is 7'0" whereas these were 7'3".  Not a huge problem as the flange will help visually in OO and wheels were turned down as they wore.

      2) Get a copy of Barry Lane's LYR Locomotives (I suspect you may have one).

      3) Join the LYR Society.

      4) There was an Ian Beattie drawing in the Feb 1985 Railway Modeller.

      5) There were two sorts of valance under the running plate and some locos were superheated for a while.

      6) You will have "fun" capturing the Belpaire firebox shape!

      7) Start a thread as you will capture more comments and opinions rather than relying on your profile.

If you are after a kit, look for a Millholme Models kit. They do come up quite often on eBay.

I have heard that Stevenson Carriages were planning on reissuing it. But it seems to be a bit quiet on that front.

I'm probably going to put this on hold for a bit and work more on a fictional lanky 2-6-0 that a few people may find familiar.
