Particularly given the appetite for coal of Hughes' 4-6-0s! Probably a good thing these monsters were not built.
from what i remember reading about the 2-10-0 they were suppose to heat better than other locos there for needing less coal than you would think. of course, i'm no engineer so i may be off on that

has anyone metioned the lanky 2-10-0 at all? i got some drawing of the loco and i was thinking about sharing them if anyone wanted to see it.

Hi Tom,
I do apologise, I must be losing the plot and it doesn't help my gormless state that your user name has contained Mike within it.
Gibbo.

That well known video blogger Sam's Trains has been given seven coaches to have a look at ,not review, after unboxing them on the carpet. Very nice too although if Hatton's want me to test the GWR versions on my layout they only have to ask.

i assume if the coaches don't exactly work in time periods you just use rule 1

How does one choose a number for a fictional vehicle?
you call the first one 1, the next 2, the one after that 3, and so on

Health warning: I know very little in practical terms of what I am about to say, other than I know it is above my skills level...
I understand the prototype were very small and underpowered and withdrawn around 1900 or earlier. We're talking branch and pilot duties only, I guess.I don't know if this is possible, but would the Bachmann Junior/Digby be a suitable victim, but with the motor turned so the wormwheel is in the cab, and the 'front' non-driven axle could then be removed and a new smaller wheelset substituted? This operation in itself would give me heebie jeebies, but, might result in the short wheelbase in the prototype picture. The originals had 5' wheels, I think. That would however leave you with a problem in the cab, and cab doors to hide the mechanism might be implausible as the real things had really really large protruding splashers...
By and large Corbs' "cut your coat to suit your cloth" approach makes sense, dependent on what you have to hand, which is what is driving me towards an 0-6-0 as I can't quite reconcile myself to the long wheelbase on the Hornby Smokey Joe chassis (one of which is in the loft) (although I like Corbs' 2-4-0T on this chassis which is at the very start of this thread).i probably am at a lesser skill level than you but i think the project is worth at least trying. the idea for using the Bachmann junior's chassis is a nice one and i will look into that. i had been thinking maybe getting a terrier chasssis and switching out the wheels but i haven't settled on a proper chassis yet. the only thing i know i will use is the saddle tank from a smokey joe to make the saddle tank, the rest is still up in the air right now.

i was thinking about a side tank loco but now that i know about a lyr one....time to figure out how to build that!

I've been thinking about trying to bash a 2-4-0 passenger tank engine together but i really have no idea where to start, could anyone give me some advice?

The mechanical connection between the locos would be "interesting". Imagine driving a loco with not just one stiff reverser, but two.....
that's why they come with a wrench and a sledge hammer

200 tenders for every loco?

I'm also debating a Suderian project in the future although I was thinking maybe Wellsworth but that's a long way off.
focusing on the main line or the branch?

so just make it more of a regular green and less of a dark green....or a darker red

The 4f looks nice but it seems to have little coal space.

was a clockwork engine retooled to be a electric loco. the clockwork one had 6 wheels but when upsizing it they used a 0-4-0 chassis

with the old layout gone now what are the general plans for the new layout?

Very nice. They will certainly pass muster for the majority of modellers and capture the spirit of late Victorian carriage design with some nice features. An interior lit GWR rake might be a nice addition to Dolgellau's rolling stock.
Still slightly bemused by the presence of the "Improved Precedent" on the formations diagram which appears to be the only non-RTR loco on the list (in production or announced). Whoever has an "Improved Precedent" in design, 'fess up for goodness sake, I'm nearing completion of my current layout and several would be highly useful for the next project...i just hope it's not Bachmann. it would take 5 years to come out
