There is some jiggery pokery as the real Standard 4s had a solid front underneath the smokebox door as the footplate dropped down to bufferbeam level.

I get about three like that a day. I normally forward new ones to report@phishing.gov.uk before deleting them. I don't know what they do with such reports but preumable it helps them to build up a picture.
Though the local plan has been around for a few weeks, I've only just heard the very worrying news , that Popham Airfield in Hampshire, where for thirty years I did almost all my flying from, has been designated in the Basingstoke & Deane revised local plan as a site for the development of 3000 homes in "Popham Garden Village- a healthy and sustainable place with a strong, clearly defined and coherent village character, which maximises the opportunities presented by its attractive rural setting in a sensitive and positive manner”. In reality, by the time the developers have muddied the water, that usually ends up meaning an isolated housing development with few facilities.
The airfield runs along the north side of the A303 dual carriageway (a very attractive rural feature!) with only narrow country lanes providing any other access and a fifty minute walk (on a country road I'd be very reluctant to walk down) from Micheldever Station. There's no mention in the plan of current aviation activities on one of the most popular airfields for grass-roots flying in the country (the sort that ordinary people like me could afford that are disappearing rapidly) as if they don't want to admit that they'd be destroying it.
There is a mention in the plan of a "brownfield site near Overton"which presumably means the airfield.
If this is a brownfield site then so is most of the British countryside (the site to the right of the main runway on the A303 is a filling station and cafe - nothing to do with the airfield). The only permanent buildings on the site are the three hangars on the left of the picture, another hangar used by an aircraft maintenance form and a small clubhouse and cafe.

If you happen to live on the leeward side.
G’day, Happy Solstice, Welcome. The shortest period of less-than-nocturnal gloom is with us. There’s not enough of it to call “daylight” and there’s a gale blowing in off the Atlantic. Seas will be up and blown against the cliffs here. Gulls trying to make progress beak-first are being blown backwards.
Solstice is not actually until tomorrow!

They look more like foxgloves to me! Surely the real seasonal anomaly is the presence of rose hips in the left foreground.

I think this topic is in the wrong place:
Wheeltappers
The non-railway and non-modelling social zone.
I am sure that a place can be found for it in the Layout section of the Modelling zone..Charlie

Rannoch Station is about 15miles (as the google line flies) from any habitation with "Rannoch" in it's name (Kinloch Rannoch), though Loch Rannoch itself is only about 5.5 miles away.
Is the station being in the middle of Rannoch Moor good enough for you?

What a terrible video that explains little. For example on a QNH based approach the rad alt will always under-read the pressure altimeter. Really are there so many idiots who do not set airfield pressure settings when making an approach because they are a danger to themselves and other aircraft in the vicinity? I find the need to make this video very worrying.

What surprises me is that in some science fiction films and novels has people using conventional guns in space. A prime example was Russian troops firing AK47's on the moon. a) There is no air on the moon so where is the oxygen required to fire the bullet coming from? b) The recoil would be vastly different to on Earth due to gravity.
a) No difference the oxidant is contained within the bullet’s cartridge.
b) No difference as action and reaction are proportional to mass which is independent of gravity.

Very disappointing reviews from jjb1970 as there was no mention whether the champagne was served at the correct temperature. Important information when travelling business class. Also the breakfast jam had to be requested as an extra on Vietnam Airways. FFS as a certain bear would say.

Allegedly British Airways referred to their trolley dollies as Olympic Torches: ‘Been round the world and never went out’.

Stroudley didn’t build any tenders during his time at Inverness. Highland tenders of that era were based on the Crewe type from its association with Alexander Allan and springs were most definitely above the axle boxes. However in all likelihood the underslung springs were a connivance between Drummond and Stroudley during their time together at Brighton and used by Drummond in his early designs when he came north to the NBR and CR.

Bialetti works for me:
Quick and easy to use with little to go wrong. Can be used on any stove including induction as in this example.
My cheap and cheerful Lavazza milk frother is lasting the course as well because as far as I am concerned the Italians with their delicate stomachs can keep their coffee drinking rules.

We bought a new Internet radio today. This has been a long time in the works.
Due to deterioration of the music provided by the CBC, we now listen to American PBS classical music stations over the internet.
Last spring when I was changing the clock in one radio, I managed to lose 2 stations (by overwriting them). I then found out that the radio would not search for stations as the company that provided the list was no longer providing it. A couple of new radios would still find them.
Then something went wonky and the first radio would no longer talk to our modem.
We had a backup in the main room as the cable TV carried the nearest station. Then, over Christmas, our TV black box stopped working and the replacement never worked. The cable co. said that they were obsolete technology that they were phasing out. So we went to the new technology. But that system doesn't have the radio stations in its lineup.
Last night I found that one store has a small stock of radios. So this morning was spent driving halfway across the big city and back again.
Setup took about half an hour.
Everything is wonderful again.
Don’t need a radio! I only listen to BBC R3 after lunch finding the mornings full of gratuitous waffle and Classic FM is banal beyond belief. So I am long acquainted with American PBS services. I think that TuneIn has something to do with the unavailability of some stations. However, enjoyment is maintained by streaming these stations directly using their apps on my phone and blue toothing the music over to the info. Sanity prevails (KWMU-3 from St Louis is a favourite).

Surely the good squadron leader hasn’t forgotten that delight from a box of Compo Rations, cheese “possessed” smeared with greengage jam eaten on an oatmeal biscuit.
