I have to say that the coaches are great and well worth waiting for - the colour match is really good with Dapol 68s and they look fantastic. The only issue I am having is that some of the wheels have wonky centre caps and a couple with excess glue on the wheel face (and a couple missing the centre caps), but the biggest thing is the flickering end lights in the DT. I've logged a ticket and I know Simon has been looking into it for the past couple of days, but the more I look on Facebook and Youtube I'm seeing that this seems to be a common issue. I'm sure there were reasons for not including the circuit on the capacitor for the internal lights, but its a shame this circuit didn't have one fitted too. Hopefully the Accurascale team have a solution!

Hi @adamvb, just out of interest, is it the white end lights that are flickering when the DT is in reverse, or is it that the correct lights are on but are flickering in general?

The end lights on my DT work perfectly well when running forwards (i.e. push mode) but when running in reverse (i.e. pull mode), the red lights work fine, but the white end lights flicker and occasionally as does the destination board (which is mostly off when in reverse and on running forwards - I’m unsure if it is meant to be on in both directions). I have already emailed the Accurascale support team so hopefully there is a solution.

Thanks for those pics Farren, has anyone had the time and opportunity to take any more photos of 46252 showing the green in neutral light?  Given the excellence of the Crimson Lake livery on Atholl, courtesy Coachman, Larry Goddard if I'm not mistaken,  I am a bit nervous about the rendition of BR green on Leicester, it's quite a bit of money to spend, after all.

edit, ah, never mind your ppic on the Duchess thread shows the green rather well, and it looks the same to me as the plastic versions, top boiler seam notwithstanding.

which is to say, not too bad. :)

Here is a photo of 46252 I took the other day with my iPhone, in natural light. The finish is more satin than the die cast Atholl to my eye, although it doesn’t seem to appear that way in the photo below.

Not only OCD  but also electrical safety, plus it appears to be at a kitchen worktop which can be associated with water.

It’s isolated whilst I’m in the process of re-tiling my kitchen.

Has any owner yet weighed the loco alone and prepared to report?

Supplementary question, where is the balance point located relative to the coupled wheelbase?

    Loco + tender = 665g!

Probably not going to like this, but is that cab leaning backwards a little?

    Al.

I’m not suggesting Hornby have done this intentionally, but the appearance of the cab is very similar to that of 46220 Coronation in the photograph at the link below. Perhaps a reason not to mind if the production run of Duchess of Atholl has the same “drooping” cab appearance!

Getting hold of one.  Now there's a riddle tied up in a conundrum...    a retailer I use for preference says they got an allowance three on pre-order, just like Hattons and Rails,  and have eight willing buyers at full retail, so it may be a simple draw from a hat, and of course unfortunately there will be some buyers wantig only to re-sell at a profit. Possibly 200 are for non UK retailers.

Actually not a very nice scenario.  My feeling is that there is misinformation going around, too.

Hmm, I have had assurances from the retailer that I have one allocated, and that this will be fulfilled. I will be very upset if I end up missing out.

Indeed it was misleading and the new metal body Atholl does indeed have the lovely new model chassis,  as shown here in a screen shot

The original artwork does show an old front bogie with lump in front, but clearly not o this evaluation running model. Apologies for jumping the gun as it were.

Great,  maybe I will buy one after all...   I have a late-40s version in 3-rail so really must have a 2020 version. :)  Edit; if I can find one for sale!

    Only 500 to be made?

Thanks for the screenshot. In fairness, I would have been happy with the older tooling. I have a few Duchesses of the older tooling, which I really like. This will be my first of the new tooling (I have one on pre-order) - I hope it doesn’t make me want to replace my current Duchesses - I don’t have the money for that!

Hopefully you manage to get hold of one.

Looks to me that the new die cast model has the older chassis without the super detail front under-frame, bevelled driving wheels, etc.  I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it, considering the froth interest and noise when the latest plastic-body Atholl was released ... (but may have missed it).  In other words this is the 2008 era chassis, fat bogie front is a giveaway. Not bad but not the latest chassis.

From looking at the development sample in the latest episode of Hornby’s Signal Box video, it looks as though R3819 will have all the improvements of the newer c2017 tooling i.e. detailed frames, wind deflectors on the cab sides etc. So perhaps the original product artwork is slightly misleading!

  9. Does anyone know/think if R3819 will be like the ‘old’ tooling (a la R3119 Duchess of Abercorn), or the ‘new’ tooling (a la R3553 Duchess of Atholl)? The image appears (to my untrained eye) to be R3119 with the name and number digitally altered, but presumably it was easier to do that than digitally alter R3553 to have a double chimney? I know the body is going to be die cast so it will be a new tooling in that respect, but will it have all the improvements that the latest tooling has?
