    Totally accurate or not, I still think it’s a wonderful picture and seems to feature a very early form of Steam Whistle, the ‘Steam Trumpet’  above the firebox!

Funnily enough, that locomotive was my previous profile picture! 🤭 The very good Early Railways: A Guide For The Modeller, also features plans and pictures from two of Mike’s layouts!(The one mostly featured in the 1987 video and where I believe your image comes from) and another one! The book is fantastic whether you model or not, as it’s a great general guide I feel! A surprise was to see Mike model the Duplex I believe it was? An Austrian 1860s locomotive considered perhaps the first four cylinder locomotive and not what I expected from Mike!(In a good way! 😉) Such a shame that beautiful LNWR Bloomer wasn’t featured in the video, although then again I saw a few locomotives featured in the book that appeared in sidings or not running in the video!
  3. From the fantastic late Mike Sharman’s Victorian Railway(1987) video, Vulcan in original condition! A plan of Vulcan(and other class members!) as delivered, and Vulcan prior to rebuilding is in Broad Gauge Engines of the GWR Part 1!

Being inspired to see if I could discover more information on the double Crampton, I came across accidently what must be the strangest Crampton Locomotive I’ve ever seen, compared to the double Crampton! Left: No 162, named Alma. This Crampton-type engine was built in 1855, and converted to Petiet steam-drier form at some later date, probably in the 60's. It was withdrawn and scrapped in 1873. I suppose this is a 6-2-0 configuration. http://www.douglas-self.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/petiet/frexp.htm It looks like the famous French Crampton design I’ve seen Annie post here, and with the description, it possibly was exactly like that until it’s very unusual conversion!

  6. I hope nobody minds this post, Annie especially, but another discovery and possibly a contender for your collection Annie! (Neither pictures are mine) A discovery of what was in the post claimed to be a very highly detailed Der Adler(WIP apparently stated along with rolling stock) and another, not quite as detailed, but still a very special find model! https://www.trainz.de/search-result/32535/?highlight=Der+Adler While the locomotive and rolling stock aren’t the most detailed, it is still a great, and for me new find for an era of Trainz that can be a little hit and miss for content. I haven’t downloaded it myself so I’m not sure if you’ll run into trouble. She is technically German, but British built so hopefully shouldn’t look too out of place in her birth country!

I used it all the time in my Trainz 12 days, the only downside was with certain bogies, including trains, tenders or rolling stock the wheels would vanish, but it did make the trains feel a bit more special!
  8. Speaking of which... A wonderful piece by that artist, actually a digital painting! This locomotive and engine may seem familiar, because is the exact same as JUST that photograph. The wonderful and dare I say most elegant livery The Great Western Railway had is brought out very nicely here! It’s incredible how, being the 1890s, the last decade may have seen all this Broad Gauge(speaking of which, my project is on a temporary standstill! Been sorting through a online picture collection of mine). The tracks seem to be the familiar Broad Gauge tracks, converted to the narrow() gauge! Speaking of cats too, I have a wonderful doggy, but a few years ago, there was this cat I used to see more often. I think it was a she and for some reason, she took a liking to me. She loved fuss and was just adorable! Since then(before this outbreak!) I’ve seen her closer to my home, from where I usually saw her. (It was a black cat! I don’t think of her as unlucky though )
  9. Hello again! Progress on my own Broad Gauge Project, like Annie's. I'm sorry to hear that things have been a little rough for you Annie. These progress shots are taken in Surveyor and I've been a little hands on today! I also finally decided what era this route actually should be. I was thinking the 1850s or so. Which means no signalboxes for me! Ignore the modern people, they are purely there to make sure they didn't step out of line!(Hovering over the platform edges! ) I did get a bit angry if I must be honest! I was frustrated with the platform on the far left, a few of the passengers insisted hovering over the platform edge and every solution seemed to involve a lot of work. Thankfully I found an easy one! Make the platform a little wider(I'm not sure if these will stay or if I'll have to do a whole route replacement, with wooden platforms!) and move the track over a little. You can also see here two brand new buildings I put in place of the yet to be replaced modern shops! What do you think? I love how they are so timeless, with no modern significance or anything. The buildings on the right of the modern shops(belching smoke!) I feel probably can stay. I have a little treat to show there! (Ignore the hovering track, bringing all the railway down to ground level is another thing on my list, also the hovering signs, all WIP, will be sorted!) A little treat! Ever the gentlemen, he allows his wife to board the Carriage First. Where are they off to? Surely not the station! I added a wonderful road and pavement spline here which I think is in era? I might have to replace that station fence, a lot might have to be changed! I adore this model and I believe the woman is probably appropriate for the 1850s, as well as the man. The modern(A century ahead infact!) buses will be replaced. Every out of place vehicle will become one of three lovely coach models. I've yet to add a Station Building. Don't worry, the station will not be as populated as you see here, as I've mentioned, they are purely for building purposes, so I know they won't be hovering over the track and so when I add bits and pieces, it's not in the way of them!
  10. Hello! Progress pics today!(I was good and made sure to provide them, I also did some additional work too after taking a break! ) The Railway Board at a WIP Station, taken at this angle to hide the Work in Progress things behind it! I quite like this platform, I imagine this route set in maybe the 1860s or so? The platform is ideal because, as mentioned here, no White-Stripes and it looks almost timeless. It's actually GWR too!(1920s but shush! ) Brunel would be proud! The first bridge I replaced with an actual period bridge! Unfortunately, while it sits comfortably here, the supports are a bit too short for use elsewhere, so I've been using the Moorswater viaduct. I may make the river a little shallower, but we'll see. A screenshot will be provided of my Moorswater Viaduct use! You might remember this! This is the station I gave a makeover similar to Annie and I love it!(Still all WIP this area though) (Note the signalbox! Similar to Annie's too but with red and white, I may try and sort that out, the station signs are like the one's Annie uses too!). Ignore the modern people! I did get rid of them but they managed to sneak back in! The static period figures are on their way!) You can see an engine shed to the left of the station, I will be replacing that and I have several varieties of this one Engine shed model that matches the GWR Broad Gauge one's in photographs nicely! Sadly I've had trouble, the chimneys of the engines are too tall! I'd have to make the building hover slightly or do some sort of terrain work to get the track a bit lower in so the engine's clear the entrance to the sheds. The Railway Board is taken along a new section of line that I turned into Single Track. I may bring the fences in a bit, I was inspired by the classic Trainz Broad Gauge route mentioned here, plus it felt a bit more realistic. So now a great deal of secondary two track lines have been turned into Single Line! Mentioned Viaduct. I think I will actually make the river a little shallower in this area so I can have the classic Brunel Timber Bridge. Coming back to this it looks really bad and there's a different spot on the Main-Line where this actually works well in the water.(No screenshot of that provided today! Sorry!) So, The Railway Board will now be whisked back to the big... main town I suppose it is on the route! I hope you enjoyed my posts today. It actually took forever to make this one! I took the screenshots literally as I posted this.
  11. Hello! I do hope my posts here aren’t starting to become annoying. I did read all I missed before posting. Progress picture on my own Broad Gauge project! Sadly the only one tonight. I got distracted chatting online(to be honest) and I forgot to take progress screenshots! Great news though! The killer Caution Signals, thanks to Annie, I have managed to get them moved further away from the track! The handle is no longer out to kill or injure poor innocent passengers(or Railway Board Members!.)! Hopefully I’ve placed the Station building correctly! I love this station now that I’ve given it a going over inspired by Annie. My layout will have some later platforms and some wood. I’ve spaced out more railway track, the clearance here is a little tight between coaches(tested using my widest ) but they do not touch. Also, the other station I posted seems all good so far! I’m using a 1920s GWR Platform as another experimental try, but it seems to be quite nice. I like the brickwork and there’s no white edging. That station only has 2 platforms to be made interactive and the station here is all setup. The people here will be removed to have static figures in their place!(My trains can take and bring real people though, UK 1890 passenger set figures will be on my trains as well as the static figures on the platforms! ). What can’t be seen is the sidings/Loco shed which is also at this spot, I’m thinking of replacing it with one like Annie’s(the lighter type, not the dark grey one). Also, seeing as her’s and my routes are quite different regions, I’m not copying Annie piece for piece because that wouldn’t make this unique, plus it’s nice to have it a little different and with my own mark on it. Lineside pruning has been done too and will be continued! Hope you like my post.
  12. Thank you for the advice and diagram Annie! I've discovered the problem is actually with the, funnily enough, Caution signals! Caution indeed of the killer signals! (Out to see the end of the Broad gauge no doubt?!) Your advice will come in handy, but it does mean that I will have to space out the tracks again! Oh well, to be fair spacing them out to begin with didn't turn out to be a nightmare, so it shouldn't be too difficult. I can't imagine the scripting nightmare in dual gauge signals, if only it was as easy as it was in the real world! Speaking of Broad Gauge, here's the (in?)famous image that has appeared in this thread before! I may have borrowed a certain joke about an uninterested wife!
  13. Unfortunately, I have a Delorean in my garage! Sorry Annie! Just kidding! (I wish I had that car for sure!) I wanted to share today's progress(and fun and games) so far! Still time for plenty more: Mixed Gauge! Well... not really. The actual mixed gauge track set I believe is for T:ANE only and I only use Trainz 12. This is a simple just for fun experiment using rails only track! It somewhat works, but you have to be very specific with your track placement, or(as you can probably see behind the Dean Single!) the coaches decide to hover! The Dean Single however blends in quite nicely. Racing along with an express! Well... not quite. I only took this as far as a station off a junction, but soon after she derailed! I missed a piece of track I accidentally forgot to connect properly! (The Railway Board were involved I suspect! Can't blame them... this is supposed to be Broad Gauge Only!) Even if I had done the entire line, it would be very difficult, I'd have to have two of anything interactive and signals would only work on the Broad Gauge Track. Still, it would be fun to have mixed gauge for perhaps a small part of the line! Speaking of the Railway Board, here they are! Whisked away down the other two track line that branches off from the main station(which still has yet to be spaced out and worked on) the Railway Board is quite satisfied itself with the latest spacing. This is rather more narrow however, because of the surrounding landscape. Approaching the station the Railway Board came from to first see the spacing for themselves. Now, both the tracks have been spaced out. The 'Six Foot' is a little wider in the middle than the gap between the two tracks. This section however is far wider so that the signalmen aren't standing on the tracks and so that the Switches(which I chose after the one's Annie used! ) clear the tracks too. So far this section has to be the widest on the network! I've had to move the fences back and delete some vegetation(that would of fouled the line anyway!), the route however still seems to adapt quite nicely. I did discover on my run one of the signals is a deathtrap! There is one model which has the 'lever' to control the signal pointing straight ahead, while another points right out onto the line! They shall be replaced before The Railway Board are seriously hurt or injured!(Then where would we be? )
  14. Hello Annie, today's progress so far...(Still working on!)A special train of Members of the Railway Board sits at the station, ready to whisk them away! As you can see, there is some track missing. Most of the station has yet to have the new interactive platforms fitted. Ignore the people! They are purely temporary and will be replaced by static period people.(Although being interactive, my Trains will bring real people to and from stations! ) The Railway Board is shown the brand new spaced track! The lineside still needs pruning and the fence needs spacing out! Also the tracks on the left need spacing out too. The Railway Board seem happy so far with the work, but what do you all think? A fine view showing off both the telegraph poles and fence Annie recommended. As the telegraph pole seemed much more of a match to the one's in the photographs in my book, I chose these! This fence is brilliant too and shall be staying! The Railway Board however, are nervous as they are taken along the yet to be spaced track approaching the next station! They worry a train may pass by too close, however, they are assured that no trains but theirs is running, due to engineering works. They are also assured the lineside will be cleared of fouling vegetation and the lineside fences spaced out. The track does hover in places and I'm going to sort that out in future!
  15. Thank you for the advice Annie! I’ll keep it all in mind! I may try and find a 4 bar fence just like the one I’m already using then. What you said about clearances and such, I found that out too when I first started this! The station issue, well, shouldn’t be an Issue because I am replacing them after all. I may try out your telegraph pole suggestion. How did Iron Duke run for you by the way? I wouldn’t be surprised if you said poorly with the small, wrong tender! (I’m kidding! ) I’ve also been thinking of trying out your method with the trees on that route, just to see the affect on the Frame rate for myself. Edit: I’m glad your interest has been rekindled Iron Duke to the rescue!
  16. Quick little snap of my latest modifications. Sadly I didn't have the time I wanted tonight to work on this. I've currently replaced the barbed wire with this fence. It was meant to be a placeholder until I found a fence like your 4 bar one, but I actually quite like this! Also the lineside shall be pruned! (Not to mention we can't have that in the way of the track yet to move aside! ) The telegraph poles were to be placeholders too, but I actually quite like them! If I bring them down they are a very close match to a pair in a Broad Gauge photograph I have. The only difference is I think they have 5 bars, where as this has 6.(I will try and find a 5 bar one.) So, that's sadly all I had time to do today! I hope you like it so far Annie.
  17. (Oh dear! I’ve started page 139! I was hoping Annie would! Hopefully she gets the honour of page 140! ) More screenshots. I did have these all on the one post, but the site was being a bit funny, so I couldn’t get them back on one post.“Well, this AI certainly knows how to drive better than this... human!” , the driver is probably saying to himself! While the AI is using DCC Control I imagine, at least it can get the train up to Express Speeds! Stopped at the same station on my last screenshot on the previous post, I’m considering replacing the building on the left and deleting or replacing the footbridge. Soon after this screenshot, I took control myself from the cab! Passing a ‘Bogie’ Class I believe? Unless I’m mistaken. This screenshot was likely taken with me putting up a poor running performance, the poor driver and fireman wish they were on the other engine I imagine! To the right also I believe is what has been the pruned lineside! Following what Annie has mentioned here, as well as someone else advising her, I’ve been keeping the lineside clear. Parts of this route did have trees sticking right out onto the line and that’s now history! I’ve also been debating whether to do what Annie does, rails only with no ballast(ballast as a ground texture) or what I currently have, with ballast. I tried without ballast yesterday and it didn’t look too good, so this might stay. I am thinking of replacing the barbed wire, as I’ve already said. “I could run faster than this engine!”, the poor driver thinks. This is probably around the mid 30s or 20s my speed in this screenshot. Some Brunel style signals can be seen ahead.
  18. In that case, here’s some screenshots of ‘Iron Duke’ when I first took her out for a run with your new cabview. Either the engine-spec is bad or I’m a Novice-Driver(probably the latter!), but I couldn’t get Iron Duke up to Express speeds. Only around the 20s or 30s I believe. These screenshots were taken before I decided on the overhaul. I have a copy of my original edit as I’ll be editing track in the copy, so I deleted all the engines. I may even be adding new consists in place of the old. If I fancy a break from editing, I can always go for a run on the original route. In this view, I thought I felt a bit too close for comfort! I was too! This is one of the reasons I’m going to make the ‘six foot’(I believe it’s called) a little wider between tracks.(As well as to avoid the signalmen, as I’m using classic Brunel signals, standing on the four foot!) I must confess I tried a rather.. monstrous experiment to test out the clearance between passing trains(EVERY Broad Gauge rolling stock, the later carriages seem to be wider) with 10 Iron Dukes powering the train! The locals must of ran away in fright, or thought someone in the operating department had too much to drink! Honestly, I discovered most of the track has enough clearance but this train came to grief as I was working it into a siding! A silly AI Train, which sadly, thanks to the way Trainz works, didn’t stop for me as I was on a junction trying to get out the way, ‘ran’ into the train. I think it’s safe to say I’ll be exiled from my own Railway Network, if not lynched! Passing one of my own AI Trains, heading Up or Down I can’t say for the life of me! While I did add ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ Broad Gauge Signals, they look practically the same! The 1890s UK Passenger set figures can be seen inside! I think they go well with the route.(If anyone has other suggestions, let me know!)One of the signals I’m using on the right, along with a halted ‘Iron Duke’ Class! I believe this is one of many locations where some replacement buildings are needed! I have also removed some buildings from certain spots, including a loop(Which unless I’m mistaken, is at this station) and how lovely that looks now! This station is one of all the non-interactive stations, but that will soon change!(I’m using an 1890s UK Passenger set, which I think goes quite nicely. The figures themselves are also on the DLS, not just as a passenger set, so I won’t have to use my trains to populate the platforms with period passengers or fuss around with scripting, which I don’t know at all!)
  19. I hope Annie doesn’t sharing my(first!) post here. Annie very kindly provided me with a cabview for the Great Western Railway Broad Gauge ‘Iron Duke’ Class. When I tried this sort of thing myself, I somehow ended up breaking the exterior view and killing the steam effects! Thankfully, to my surprise Annie came to the rescue and now I have a footplate view which also shows off the scale and bulk of these engines! To quote Annie, enginemen/firemen may have had a hard time looking past these bulky fireboxes! This engine certainly feels a lot larger than how it normally does in the exterior views or default cab views!(Which are leaning off the side.) The route incase anyone is curious is Triystin(I think I spelt that right) & District converted to Broad Gauge. Like Annie, I’ve been keeping the trackside boundary clear as well as making the route somewhat accurate for the loose period! I have however, made a copy of this just yesterday with the engines deleted, I’ll be replacing the non-interactive stations with interactive ones, changing out the point switches for the kind Annie uses, replacing the barbed wire with the wooden fence you normally see in Annie’s shots among countless alterations. I’ll even make the coastline section of the route a little more believable by bringing it out one boardplate. I’m considering as well to remove some sections of the layout so I can pretend I’m on part of a mainline, rather than have trains run round on the looped route. Anyway, I’ll let this thread get back to it’s current owner and move along!
