I get what your saying but it's like saying everyone who joins the FB Ford escort page likes Ford escorts

I'm personally not on FB but from seeing swmbo's fb can't see any railway stuff but loads of makeup tutorials and food vids.

You can give someone a fish to eat but only feeds for one day ....give them a fishing rod....?

I prefer 14.2mm but appreciate other denominations....

    Regards

    G

Slight difference as their photos of trains and track are Triang or Triang based with old Bec/Gem kits etc lol

I quite agree but can triang run on code 60 BH? Is society 12mm track run on code 80FB? Think point kits may be difficult in flat bottom....Problems are multi 12mm standards...triang...tilling...lincon loco....

But the developers will know more...

How long can we still suport Tri-ang standards?  Not knocking triang but it's not attracting modellers to 3mm. There is a place for all 3mm but how many Newby opt for Tri-ang

Surprisingly most new members on the FB TT page are all Tri-ang and a few of them are youngsters. There are not many who have joined into 14.2.

My thoughts were if developing a point that Peco H0m rail could be used and there would be no issues. I have 5 Lincoln-Loco RTR models and all of them, including the class 37, will run on Tri-ang track, including small radius curves as well as Peco.

  3. Following on from Robert, the society does sell some good second hand models but very few are 14.2. Now and again a loco, some coaches and wagons do appear though.

I have to say the with a small handful of kits then plenty of 3D printed bodies I have over 100 different classes of British outline locos, the oldest being a GNR Stirling Single. Mine are 12mm and a lot of the 3D bodies are from Lincoln-Locos which I fit on a Tri-ang chassis wherever I can. Apart from a small handful of excellent rtr diesels that appeared late last year you will have to make your own chassis but I have no idea what the situation for parts is as I make my own etched chassis's to suit Tri-ang or Romford wheels and where possible use a Tri-ang XT60 motor.

On the wagon front the society does have a very good selection of kits, especially Parkside but you do need wheels, I fit the bodies on Tri-ang wagon chassis's.

So, there is a lot of loco  and wagons around but no idea about coaches as I use Tri-ang or a handful of made up bought ones second hand.

Here is the second RTR loco from Lincoln-Locos, class 37, having its first run on the main line.

Due to some videos being embedded into inappropriate ones I have started to disable that facility on them which means they cannot be seen here but are still available on YouTube.

  5. The Std 4 coming along nicely with the new Railtec lining transfers. Only the crest is Fox, the rest including smokebox and bunker numbers are Railtec. These are TT, 3mm, scale.

  6. I am very impressed with what Steve does, and the timescales. I model in TT (3mm) which itself is a lot smaller market than 00 or N but Steve has excelled.  Initially I used the standard excellent cabside numbers but then started to enquire about having his 3D transfers and MT lining reduced for 3mm. Steve worked on this and for a few months the 3D plates have now been available and arriving within a few days, today the lining has also appeared and looks to be another excellent product.  Most of these all have variations like the smokebox numbers with 3 different coloured backgrounds and lined/unlined.

    You cannot fault this service.

Is the railtecmodels(ät)gmail.com email address actually working? I have sent a couple of emails that have gone unanswered. The first one wasn't that important and was several months ago but I have a more important query this time and have had no response to a mail sent a couple of days ago so I'm wondering do I have a current email address. If @railtec-models could confirm that would be great. Or an answer here would also suffice.  I'm wondering two things:

    1) Any idea if/when the NIR 111 class transfer will be available again? That's this guy: https://www.railtec-models.com/showitem.php?id=1067

    2) Said transfer appears not to include the straight 113 set of numbers, only the later 8113 (with the bolder, more closely spaced font which prevents me just trimming the leading '8'). Would it be possible to update the artwork before the next run to include these?

    3) Would it be possible to update the artwork to include the small GM/EMD builder's plate?

    Appreciate any feedback,

    Phil.

This is the email I use and got a reply about an hour later, Steve is very good at replying.

  8. I thought I would have something different on a black WR loco as a few had red numberplates so got a set of TT ones.  Initially I thought it looked large but in fact it is the same as a Castle numberplate but the smokebox itself is approx 3mm smaller in diameter making the plate look bigger.

These are really nice and stand out.

I also went for a white bordered smokebox number for my Clan (which also has a shed plate fitted) and again this looks really nice.

    Thanks Steve

  9. A couple of Tri-ang Prairies have got some Railtec 3D plates on. The black is original plastic but with twin red lining added.

The number plates are all red as I wanted something different and the WR did red plates on black locos for a short while.

The green one is ready for varnishing now.

The Clan has a 3D numberplate but with an added white border which happend on a few steam locos at one time.IMG_20220118_225223.jpg.9e08b0234abd28fdcfbcb716828bf4c6.jpg

Humbrol Brunswick is no where near - blimey - you weren't kidding!

A couple of coats of something a bit more authentic - plus a few big crusty brush strokes and some dust. I'll hopefully get some transfers on tomorrow. Not going to attempt any form of lining out.

Thank you, 32675. Your optician gives sound advice. If only LF had a motor. Railmatch paint arrived this morning so nearly there now. Hopefully back to a truly huge 0 gauge Peckett 0-4-0ST soon.

I have a little 0 gauge but these days my eyes might have more of a problem with that than TT.  Due to my glasses even a 300 ruler looks curved so have great difficulty lining up transfers which would be a bigger problem in 0.

La France doesn't bear such close inspection. The Brunswick Green Humbrol Nr 3 will serve as an undercoat for when the Railmatch Pre-1928 GW green arrives.  A bit more of a rub down needed, plus some sundry details such as whistles and reversing rod and the wheels need painting.  Not sure where I'll go with any attempt at lining out as time's passing and I plan to hand the loco over on Sunday. Well - at least the wheels rotate but the valve gear, such as it is, is greatly simplified and best viewed from a considerable distance. IMG_20220116_180729_754.jpg.edf9ef1b21cab8f8a1c76eb53c98b704.jpgIMG_20220116_180754_042.jpg.e1b41f6942d64f4bd4e3da8ec44374db.jpg

For its size the valve gear looks quite neat.

Having had a go at making some small crankpin bushes for one side and ended up with indifferent work that I have mixed feelings about I've taken a step back from the mechanical niceties and started painting. God it's all tiny! Not happy with the green - I tried Humbrol Nr 3 Brunswick Green and it doesn't look right to me- being decidedly polarised towards a freelance 7mm scale company for such along time I'd never realised just how different BR green and GWR green is! Silverfox - what paint do you use for your GWR locos?

My WR (or any BR region) locos are done with Precision BR green or Rover Brooklands green. The latter is slightly lighter than "proper" BR green but was used as a Dublo copy.  La France should be GWR green which I think has a different hue/shade and Precision do make that colour. Humbrol Brunswick is no where near.  In real life no BR loco was painted in Brunswick, the standard BR colour was something like  Land Rover mid or dark chrome green. The word Brunswick was used by a model magazine (50's I think) by mistake and readers continued its use incorrectly ever since.

Yes- I saw those on your photo and l need to try to replicate them somehow. The wheels run reasonably truly, the quartering isn't far out and they are quite firm on the axles - unfortunately the 14ba's are threaded in from behind, with a dab of Loctite so trying to remove them and retro-fit some Romford ones would be too destructive so I'll have to see what I can make do with what I have. So used to what is available in the larger scale- TT's been quite a steep learning curve.

I understand the situation about the crankpins now so good luck. Look forward to seeing it finished. I do have an Atlas City of Truro to attempt one day and thought I had a good chassis for it but the wheelbase is wrong so needs a new one making one day.

I've been a lousy engineer. The coupling rods just turn on lengths of 14BA at the mo. I'll see if I can bore the eyes out a little and make some tiny sleeves of tube to go over the bolt thread and act as some sort of bearing. The half-finished 7mm scale 0-4-0 saddle tank that awaits seems absolutely huge!

Must do something about that curly handrail too...

When I have to use other than Tri-ang wheels I use the deluxe Romford bearings which have a thread on the spindle as well which a threaded collar fits on. This proved excellent on my Atlantic as the collar was a perfect fit in the Tri-ang coupling rods.
