I'm also a regular reader of Wright Wrights and Peterborough North, and have gone from not really minding about prototypical formations to planning my first foray into kit building coaches - so I understand the enjoyment of it, even though I'm only just starting out with 'serious' modelling. I greatly admire people who are prepared to show what they're doing on here - even if it isn't 'perfect' or museum quality. It's certainly better than I could do! And there's a lot to be said for compromise too.

Andy, Just wanted to say that I've become an avid follower of this thread. First class modelling and absolutely full of information. All the discussion of coaching sock and formations has inspired me to aim for something more prototypical in my own modelling (although necessarily truncated as I don't have nearly as much space - yet!). Thanks for the reply. I was considering the Ratio fencing, so seeing it look the part on your layout has confirmed to me that's the way to go. Much appreciated.

Can I ask where you got the fencing? Wonderful work, by the way. I've been following this layout for a few weeks (and have read through the whole thread) and am really enjoying watching it develop.

Hello, another (relatively) new member here, also named Mark. I've been lurking on this thread for a couple of weeks and prompted by the post above I thought I'd chime in my own appreciation for your modelling, Kevin. It's absolutely superb and along with a couple of other layouts on here (Peterborough North, ANTB and Stoke Courtenay come to mind), you've been a real inspiration for my own (so far very modest and clumsy) efforts. Thanks for sharing your wonderful layout!

It’s the wrong side of the Pennines but the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is reopen with pre-booked services from 1 August. Might be too far if you were planning to stick to Lancashire, but the drive over would be fairly scenic if you avoided the motorway. They often have a good mix of ex-LNER and LMS motive power in steam too.

Amazing work on the triplet set, Richard. I don’t know why your thread hasn’t produced more comments: I’ve just had a browse through from the start and it’s a real inspiration for someone (like me) just starting out.
